Tag Heuer to launch a smartwatch tomorrow, partners Intel and Google

Tag Heuer is the latest watch maker that will foray into the smartwatch market. The luxury watchmaker is expected to launch a smartwatch at Basel World event tomorrow. Tag Heuer's Chief Executive Jean-Claude Biver told Bloomberg that the company has made some Silicon Valley partnerships for the smartwatch. He stated that "the hardware and the software will come from Silicon Valley. But the watch case, the dial, the design, the idea, the crown, that part of the watch will, of course, be Swiss.” According to PocketLint, the Swiss watch maker has partnered with Google and Intel. The device will be a digital version of the TAG Heuer Carrera, one of the company's best selling traditional timepieces. There might be a possibility that the watch will run on Google's Android Wear. At present there is no word about the details and specs of the smartwatch.

Opera acquires online privacy company SurfEasy

Opera Software has made its first security focused acquisition. The company has acquired SurfEasy Inc., a leading Toronto-based company that provides an easy-to-use VPN solution for protecting customers’ online privacy and security on smartphones, tablets and computers. "More and more internet users are starting to question whether they can trust the internet these days, and are actively looking for secure solutions for their phone or computer,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. A VPN or “virtual private network” provides an added layer of internet security by encrypting all internet traffic sent to and from your device. A VPN therefore allows people to access the internet freely, without the fear of compromising their sensitive data. “By teaming up with Opera, a global internet company with over 350 million users, we are able to accelerate our vision to give users access to simple applications that let them take back control of their online privacy and freedom,” he continues. said Chris Houston, founder and CEO, SurfEasy. SurfEasy`s solutions secure public Wi-Fi, protect users’ online identities and unlock websites. At present, Opera plans to keep SurfEasy’s products operational.

Meizu to enter Indian smartphone market soon

Meizu, one of the popular Chinese smartphone makers has announced that it is all set to enter the Indian market. On Twitter the company said Greetings to all the #Meizu fans in India. We are coming! It has also linked its Facebook page in the tweet. The company doesn't have a dedicated page for India yet. [HTML1] Since it has already started teasing its M1 Note on its Facebook page, this might be the first smartphone to launch in India. The Meizu M1 Note was unveiled as Blue Charm Note in China. It packs a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 1.7GHz 64-bit Octa-Core MediaTek processor, Android 4.4 KitKat with Flyme OS 4 on top, 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera with 69-degree wide viewing angle, 2G RAM, comes in 16GB or 32GB memory, 4G LTE support and a 3140mAh battery. Meizu joins the recent Chinese entrants Xiaomi and vivo in India. Xiaomi chose online-only route by partnering with Flipkart. Meizu is also expected to partner with an e-commerce company in India to sell its smartphones.

HTC updates Dot View App with support for games, messages and more

HTC's Dot View Case has received support for playing games on the Dot View case as well as displaying a scrolling message, in a latest update. The company has also updated the app that controls the Dot View case. Dot Message allows you to create your own scroller message ticker, with a number of colors and scrolling speeds. The case also included is support for animated live themes and a “special surprise” on your birthday. Users can now turn on speaker during a phone call, control flashlight and recorder, snooze alarms and show more notification icons. Xbox Music can now play music files stored on OneDrive

Microsoft has announced Xbox music service has been integrated with the company's cloud storage service, OneDrive. This integration will let users access Music files on One Drive. Users will simply have to upload your music files to your new “Music” folder in OneDrive and that music will appear in the Xbox Music apps for Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 as well as on your Xbox 360 and Xbox One. It must be noted that this is a free service and doesn’t require a paid Music Pass. The music stored in the One Drive will take the storage space but Microsoft gives every Xbox Music subscriber 100GB of extra space in OneDrive so that will be enough. Microsoft is making the service available in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia starting today. There is no word on a global rollout.

TAG Heuer partners with Google and Intel for its Android Wear-powered luxury smartwatch

TAG Heuer, Swiss luxury watch maker today announced its partnership with Google and Intel for a luxury smartwatch with Intel technology powered by Android Wear platform, as expected. This was announced at the Baselworld 2015 conference in Switzerland. The smartwatch will be manufactured and assembled in Switzerland. It will be luxurious and seamlessly connected to its wearer’s daily life—a culmination of innovation, creativity and design from Silicon Valley in California and the Watch Valley in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, said the company. TAG Heuer did not show the design or the features of the smartwatch. It will introduce it in the fourth quarter of 2015. It also announced a special tie-up with DJ David Guetta. Samsung is all set to launch the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones in India at an event in New Delhi on March 23rd. These new S series smartphones were unveiled at the MWC 2015 earlier this month and have a completely different design from the earlier S series smartphones. Both the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge have a 5.1-inch Quad HD (2560×1440 pixels) 577 PPI Super AMOLED displays. The S6 Edge's display has curved edges on both the sides, as you can see from the image. These smartphones are powered by a Octa-Core ( Quad 2.1GHz + Quad 1.5GHz) Exynos processor, run on Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and pack 3GB DDR4 RAM. These have a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, OIS and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. These also have Cat.6 LTE support and a range of connectivity features. The Galaxy S6 has a 2,550mAh battery and the Galaxy S6 Edge has a 2,600mAh battery. Both these come in 32,64 and 128GB variants without an expansion slot. Google has updated its Android Device Manager service with supports for Android Wear. This will allow users to find their lost Android smartphone using the smartwatch. "Today we’re making Android Device Manager even more useful by introducing support for Android Wear to help you find your lost device. Misplaced your Android phone? No problem! OnePlus is gearing up to move beyond smartphones and foray into the gaming market. The Chinese smartphone maker has teased a new gaming related device. "The One was created to disrupt the smartphone world. The Power Bank was born to give our users more options and greater mobility. Google has finally released the official Android Auto app on the Play Store. The app is what allows Android smartphones running 5.0 Lollipop to link up to Android Auto units, bringing all of your music, maps, and hands-free controls to your vehicle. Android Auto was first announced by Google during last year’s Google I/O event, at which time the company promised cars shipping with the system built-in by the end of 2014. HTC appoints Cher Wang as CEO replacing Peter Chou

HTC just announced that it has appointed the company's Chairwoman Cher Wang as the company's CEO effective immediately, replacing Peter Chou. He will now head HTC Future Development Lab andwill be instrumental in identifying future growth opportunities for the company, said HTC. Wang co-founded HTC in 1997. HTC said that Wang had been increasingly involved in the running of various aspects of the business, to allow Mr. Chou to focus on product development over the last two years. Regarding her new position in the company, Cher Wang, chairman and CEO, HTC, said: We are seeing rapid changes in the industry, with the smartphone as our personal hub connecting us to a growing world of smart devices. Spice Dream UNO gets Android 5.1 Lollipop update

Last month Google said that it has started rolling out Android Lollipop update for the Android One smartphones, which will be rolled out each week to more phones selected at random. Lenovo CEO accidentally teases next Moto 360

Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing might have accidentally posted a photo of what looks like the next generation Moto 360 smartwatch on the Chinese site Weibo. The image was soon taken down from the site. As per the leaked image the new Moto 360 seems to come in two different sizes one with the standard version and next with a smaller size. The watch faces are also seen in gold, silver, black, brown and grey and the straps of the watch are seen in various colors. The design of the watch appears slightly different to the current Moto 360 as the lugs on either side of the face to connect the strap to, rather than attaching it underneath the body. There is also a possibility that the new Moto 360 will supports normal watch straps. It appears as if Motorola might be working to diversify personalization options for its next Moto 360. There is no information about the specs and details of the watch from Motorola yet.

Ola Cabs debuts 20 minute online food delivery service in four Indian cities

Ola Cabs has launched an online  food delivery service in four Indian cities. Dubbed as Ola Cafe, the online delivery service promises to deliver food within 20 minutes. The Ola Cafe service that can be accessed via the Ola app is coming to Bangalore, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Mumbai. A cafe button has been added on the lower right of the booking screen. Users can select their choice of meal from 'top rated' restaurants near them, and expect delivery in 20 minutes. The service is only available in specific meal timings, with lunch from 12pm to 3pm, snacks from 3pm to 7pm, and dinner from 7pm to 11pm. Users can pay by Ola Money, the company's wallet service or by cash. They can even track your order on the map as it arrives. Ola acquired TaxiForSure for $200 million earlier this month.

Samsung has revealed the pricing for its Galaxy S6 Duos. Samsung is releasing the dual SIM variant of the Galaxy S6 smartphone in select markets such as Dubai. Pricing for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones for several countries were revealed recently. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Duos 32GB will be priced at AED 2699 (US$ 735 / Rs. 45,940 approx.) and the 64GB will cost AED 2999 (US$ 816 / Rs. 51,017 approx.). No details about the 128GB variant yet.
