Google is testing a new content discovery interface in the Chrome browser's new tab page called 'Explore.' Users can access it on Android by enabling an experimental flag. It is clear that the interface is currently in early stages as it contains a large number of placeholder sites at the moment. Interestingly, most of these placeholders are specific to the Indian users but doesn't necessarily mean, they are targeted just for the Indian market as the websites appearing in the new UI have been chosen as examples by the team that is behind the development. To put this feature in short, it can be a channel in the browser that could potentially be of interest to the user. However, it is unclear if this would be based on your individual habits or if it will be more broadly tailored to locales and regions than specific users. To enable the Explore interface, go to chrome://flags in your browser, search for 'explore', and you should see the 'Explore websites' flag. Set it to 'enabled' and relaunch Chrome, then open a new tab. The Explore interface should then appear on the new tab page. As said, since it is in the early stages, the feature might not ...

This move from the company comes at a time where the speculation are rife that Samsung is shutting down one of its two manufacturing plants in China. It might be because of the sluggish sales and rising labor costs. Google is expanding the real-time translations on the Pixel Buds to all Google Assistant-optimized headphones. The company has updated their Pixel Buds support pages yesterday saying that “Google Translate is available on all Assistant-optimized headphones and Android phones.” Prior to this change, the feature was limited to Pixel Buds where it can convert real-time speech from a foreign language into your primary language. It supports up to 40 languages that can be translated in real-time using Google Translate. This means that the USB-C buds that Google includes in the box with the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL can do real-time translations. However, there aren’t any other details available on the list of headphones that can use Google Translate like the Pixel Buds. Source | Via

Google Android 9.0 Pie changes the way backups are stored in a way that even Google can't read the data. It is known that Google automatically backs up data like SMS, messages on Pixel phones to the cloud so if you wipe your device you can restore them back again. Now, in the company's security blog, Google revealed that "devices can take advantage of a new capability where backed-up application data can only be decrypted by a key that is randomly generated at the client." This key is based on the user's lock screen password, which isn't known by Google. Post which the data is stored on a Titan security module on Google's servers which permanently blocks access after too many failed attempts. Google even hired NCC group to perform a full audit to ensure the new backup method is fully secure. Though the agency discovered a few issues, Google says the problems were quickly fixed. However, it is not clear which phones can use this new backup functionality but Android 9.0 Pie is one of the requirements. Source

Apple is likely to introduce the iPad Pro 2018 at an event which might happen later this month. The Cupertino giant is said to be testing the new models internally over the past few months. What's interesting about the new iPad Pro models is that the new models appear to have the same display resolutions as the latest 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch models. The iPad8,1 through iPad8,4 models will have a resolution of 1,112×834 points, while the iPad8,5 and iPad8,8 measure in at 1,366×1,024. The iPad Pro displays use Apple's high-resolution @2x modifier which means that there are four pixels for every point. The data suggests that iPad Pro models with Face ID will have the same-size 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch displays, and retain 4:3 aspect ratios. The iPad Pro is expected to pack an iPhone X like edge-to-edge display. However, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the next iPad Pro models will have 11-inch and 12.9-inch displays, so if the 10.5-inch model is indeed the 11-inch version, the resolution would be different. Up next, the dimensions from Japanese blog Mac Otakara and a photo on Slashleaks suggest the new 10.5-inch iPad Pro will be approximately 4mm wider. In another note, the iPad Pro could be the thinnest devices yet measuring at 5.9mm thick. This thickness comes at a ...

Google Pixel 3 XL Review: The Best Smartphone Camera in Your Pocket

A device is more than the sum of its parts. In the three years since Google first introduced the Pixel series of smartphones, it has consistently proved that plain and simple hardware specs do not matter as much as Google’s OEM partners would have you believe. Bearing testament to this is the fact that despite the Pixel 3 XL smartphone having leaked in the flesh three months ahead of launch, the event itself had so much more to reveal. I’ve spent the last week using the Pixel 3 XL as my principle smartphone and here’s what I think about Google’s latest and greatest. Video Review https://youtu.be/KUUySxAWydY Design Notch disdain is commonplace. Honestly though, it’s a non-issue. I’ll probably get called out as an apologist for this but hear me out. It takes mere minutes for you to get used to the notch on any phone, not just the Pixel. What the phone does get wrong though is the extra-large notch that cuts deep into the display. It looks unbalanced for lack of better words. Add to that the chin along the bottom edge and you’re looking at a design that is fine but not particularly endearing. Let’s just call it functional.
