5 things we can’t wait for in the OnePlus 6T

0
0
The OnePlus 6T has been scheduled to arrive in a couple of weeks time, following up on the OnePlus 6, which was released in May. As the name suggests, the OnePlus 6T is an incremental update over one of the best smartphones of 2018, the OnePlus 6. Hence what do we get in this 6th generation 'T' edition smartphone? Before talking in-depth, the new upgrades include a water-drop notch, in-display fingerprint scanner, a.k.a. Screen Unlock, Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, bigger battery and of course, several launch offers. With that being said, the mid-cycle refresh of  OnePlus 6 seems to have  some jaw-dropping features to justify its existence in this brief amount of time as well. In this article, we have listed out 5 things we can't wait for in the upcoming OnePlus 6T. Water-drop notch Unlike OnePlus 6 with a big notch, the OnePlus 6T is expected to come  with a trending water-drop notch in a bid to give more real estate on the display. In OnePlus 6T, the notch is really small and shaped like a water droplet wrapping around the front camera. While the regular notch had an earpiece, front camera and sensors, the functionality of the water drop notch remain foggy at present mainly due to its size. Screen Unlock A few days back OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau confirmed the In-display Fingerprint scanner, a.k.a. Screen Unlock through a forum post on OnePlus Forums. He also added Screen Unlock consolidates a collection of software processes and hardware components, tuned in such a way to work optimally on the OnePlus 6T. Having said that, the  Screen Unlock  feature will recognise fingerprint with higher accuracy through extended usage. Furthermore, the company has ditched the 3.5mm audio jack as well. As stated by Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, removing the headphone jack has freed up more space, allowing them to put more new technology into the product. Bigger battery Some rumours and leaks across the Internet so far have been pointing towards the OnePlus 6T equipping a bigger 3700mAh battery for the first time in OnePlus history. Notably, the OnePlus 6T  battery  is  10%  bigger than its predecessor and will be also having OnePlus’ proprietary Dash Charging technology. Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box OnePlus 6T will be the ...

OpenSignal today published a new analysis on the state of mobile video experience in India which overviews the performance across various regions in India including Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Kolkata and Jammu, and Kashmir. This said regions provide a best mobile video experience compared to the 22 regions where it assessed. The OpenSignal's video experience metric is derived from an International Telecommunication Union (ITU)-based approach for measuring video quality. OpenSignal's tests sample video at multiple resolutions accessed from multiple content providers, focusing on three main criteria: the load time before the video begins playing, the stalling rate characterized by stops and stutters in the video playback, and the level of picture resolution. 4G availability experienced by smartphone users ranges from 82.6% in the Kerala region, an impressive 90.9% in Kolkata. For high-quality mobile streaming, operators must be able to support a consistent end-to-end performance across their infrastructure and having a good LTE radio signal is not enough. It’s critical there are no weak links anywhere or the consumer mobile video experience will take a toll. Smartphone users enjoy the best mobile video experience in Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Kolkata and, Jammu and Kashmir with scores over 41 on OpenSignal’s new mobile video experience measure. Additionally, both Kerala, ...

Twitter has announced moving forward it will count all emojis equally including those with gender and skin tone modifiers. This update marks significant progress for our service, and everyone can now benefit from the additional room to express themselves with more character. It is also in support of recent updates to Unicode. The company is making this change to eliminate the differences in the way written text and emojis are encoded, many emojis have counted as more characters than other emojis. There was also a difference in character counts amongst emojis. Additionally, the company is also releasing an update to its Open- Source library - 'twitter-text 155' - to account for these changes. This handles the way the internal services and client applications parse Tweets. This has consistently been a very popular library, and many users still rely on it directly. Twitter is also releasing a supporting library for the Javascript implementation - twemoji-parser 55 - that enables identifying emoji entities within a string. Instagram is said to be working on a new effortless way to fast-forward through Stories. A screenshot shows Instagram “Introducing a new way to move through posts by tapping through posts, just like you tap through stories.” The company even confirmed that it is testing tap to advance within Explore. Instagram already uses an auto-advance feature in its 'Videos You Might Like' section of Explore, where videos jump to next when you finish the current video. Since news feed is filled with countless posts, photos, sometimes it is not clear when you’re done viewing, a quick tap is the closest thing to Instagram propelling you through posts automatically. It also means users always see media full-screen rather than having to fiddle with scrolling to see the entire photo. This surely creates a more relaxing browsing experience. Instagram doesn’t show ads in Explore, but tap-to-advance could save your thumb stamina for more feed and Stories viewing. An Instagram spokesperson confirming the feature said: “We’re always testing ways to improve the experience on Instagram and bring you closer to the people and things you love.” As for the timeline of when this feature would come to the news feed, it is not clear when and where that would ...

Facebook security breach allowed hackers to access 30 million accounts; Facebook will send customized messages to affected accounts

There was a security breach in Facebook two weeks ago that allowed hackers to control 50 million accounts and the company today is sharing more details about the attack. The attackers said to have exploited a vulnerability in Facebook’s code that existed between July 2017 and September 2018. The vulnerability was the result of a complex interaction of three distinct software bugs and it impacted “View As." This allowed attackers to steal Facebook access tokens, which they could then use to take over people’s accounts. Access tokens are the equivalent of digital keys that keep users logged in to Facebook, so they don’t need to re-enter their password every time they use the app. Facebook said that it noticed an unusual spike of activity that began on September 14, 2018, and started an investigation. Again on September 25th, it determined that it was an attack and identified the vulnerability and closed the vulnerability in two days, stopped the attack, and secured people’s accounts by resetting the access tokens. It also turned off the 'view as.' However, the company now says that only fewer people were impacted than it originally thought. A total of 30 million were attacked instead of 50 million. The attackers ...

Facebook said to testing ‘Unsend’ message feature months after confirming

Back in April, Facebook, CEO, Mark Zuckerberg retracted messages from the recipients’ inboxes which some saw it as a violation of trust and abuse of power since Facebook Messenger doesn't have an unsend button. However, the company clarified that it would eventually allow everyone to use this functionality. Six months have passed by without the company announcing such a feature and now we may have our first look at the feature.  Facebook Messenger is finally working on "Unsend Message" in the app for everyone! Tip @Techmeme pic.twitter.com/5OtQrmyID3 — Jane Manchun Wong (@wongmjane) October 12, 2018 When asked about the developments on 'Unsend' feature, the company said:  “though we have nothing to announce today, we have previously confirmed that we intend to ship a feature like this and are still planning to do so.” However, famous tipster, Jane Manchun Wong managed to generate screenshots of a prototype of the Unsend button from Facebook Messenger’s Android code.  At the current state, you can only delete messages from your own inbox, but they still remain in the recipients’ inbox. But since it a prototype, you’re able to remove a message from both sides of a conversation. However, the code indicates that in the current prototype there’s a “time limit”. That ...

Samsung foldable phone can be used as tablet unfolded and would fit in pocket: CEO Koh

It is a known fact that Samsung is working on the foldable phone but the phone hasn't made its appearance still. However, D.J. Koh, CEO of Samsung's mobile business, now in a revealing statement said that users will be able to use the device as a tablet with multitasking capability before being able to fold it up into a more portable phone. The company's Koh said that whenever it delivers a foldable phone, it has to be really meaningful to the customer and If the user experience is not up to the standards, I don't want to deliver that kind of products. He once again stressed the foldable phone wouldn't be a "gimmick product that will disappear after six to nine months after it's delivered. He also confirmed that the device would be available globally, unlike previous phones. Since  Galaxy Round is Samsung's testbed kind of device, it gives the company a chance to see how reviewers and the market react. The Galaxy Round, which bowed vertically in the middle, was Samsung's first curved-screen phone. Koh also confirmed that Samsung's upcoming foldable device would be launched this year and could debut as early as next month at Samsung's Developer Conference. To remind you, Samsung isn't the only company ...

Razer Phone 2 Hands On – The Ultimate Gaming Phone

Last year when Razer took the wraps off its first phone, I like many others, was a little skeptical. Do gaming phones need to be a thing? Is there a market for a phone designed for the gamer? That question was answered when the Razer Phone turned out to be a good phone and great for gaming. It had some shortcomings but this year Razer has a new phone to fix some of those. Here is the Razer Phone 2! If It Ain’t Broke, Don't Fix It When I walked into the LA event to take a look at Razers new hardware I had to take a second to find it. They had stations set up with phones, but they just looked like last years phone. Turns out that is by design because from the front you would be hard-pressed to tell them apart, especially in the dim lighting they gave us. It is the same look, size, shape, and layout as last years phone. It still looks like a huge Nextbit Robin with equally huge and loud speakers flanking the 5.7” QHD 120Hz LCD. Razer is still the only one in the game (see what I did there) who is delivering a ...

Google Pixel camera app to get support for external microphone on October 18th

Google Pixel line-up though packs extremely good set of cameras on a smartphone, they don't allow the use of external microphones in the default camera app. However, that might change as early as next week. A Google employee in a Pixel support thread from 2016 commented saying that the feature would become available on October 18th which happens to be the day of Pixel 3 and 3 XL launch. If the language of the confirmation is any clue, all the model of Pixel would be getting the support on 18th October. This indeed is good news for Pixel users who are into mobile photography. However, for Pixel 2 and 3, users would still need a dongle to connect them. Isaac, Pixel Camera engineering team in the forum said: Hi, folks -- I have been keeping an eye on this thread since the beginning and have good news. At the same time as Pixel 3 launch (October 18th), we will introduce support for Android-compatible plugged-in external microphones in the default camera app for all Pixels. I hope you all enjoy the update. Source
