Samsung was the first company to announce and launch a smartphone with a curved display - Samsung Galaxy Round. Soon after that, LG announced their curved display phone - LG G Flex. However, despite coming late to the party, LG equipped their G Flex with features like a bendable display and a bendable body. In addition to the bendable nature of the phone, it comes with a special material at the back that can heal the scratches that the phone suffers. This is one of a kind innovation from LG and pretty soon we can expect this ability to feature in most smartphones. LG G Flex is powered by one of top processors - Snapdragon 800 and features a 6inch bendable HD display. Some of the features of LG G Flex are as follows 6-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD Curved Plastic OLED display 2.26 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974) processor with 450 MHz Adreno 330 GPU Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Dimensions – 160.5 x 81.6 x 7.9 x 8.7, weight: 177g 13MP rear camera with LED Flash, 1080p video recording at 30 fps 2.1 MP front-facing camera 2GB DDR3 RAM, 32GB of internal memory LTE-A / 3G HSPA, WiFi 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, GPS / aGPS, NFC 3500 mAh battery We recently brought ...

Nokia Lumia 1020 Review

Every once in a while a phone is released which showcases the best of technology possible at that time. Back in June 2012, this is how we started off our review of the Nokia 808 PureView. Fast forward several months and the same words hold true for the Nokia Lumia 1020 as well. The epitome of smartphone photography capabilities combined into a slimmed down form factor and a modern operating system has created a phone that Nokia calls the photography centric handset in the world. We test out those claims in our review. Hardware From the front, the Lumia 1020 continues Nokia's Fabula design philosophy with the smooth curves making the handset particularly comfortable to hold. A large 4.5 inch display takes center stage position. Below this are the three standard Windows Phone buttons that correspond to back, menu and search. Like other Lumia devices, this one too is made of a unibody polycarbonate chassis with a matte finish that feels fantastic in the hand. There's Gorilla Glass 3 on the front that curves down around the edges and seamlessly merges into the polycarbonate shell. While the phone isn't small by any standard coming in at 10.4mm thickness, it has definitely shrunk down ...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC QX100 Review

A few weeks back we'd talked about Sony's spanking new smart lens accessory that complements your phone and gives it a camera that is a notch or two above what is possible with the inbuilt module. While the QX10 was pretty amazing in itself, the QX100 takes the concept to yet another level. With specs that at least on paper rival high end prosumer cameras, the QX100 certainly seems impressive but is it really ? We find out in our review. Hardware There's not much to talk about the design of the Sony QX100. It is essentially a cylindrical lens that includes a few additional buttons all around. The on/off button is centered right on top of the lens. A long tap activates it and a green LED is visible whenever the lens is activated. Over on the left of the lens is where you spot the zoom rocker and shutter key. Like on the QX10, there is a miniature LCD on the right side of the lens that displays the battery life and little else. While we appreciate the presence of a battery notification on the lens itself, it isn't the most accurate of displays and actual battery monitoring is a bit ...

Xolo launched the Play Tab 7.0, the company's first tablet featuring a NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor last month. We already unboxed the tablet and also ran benchmarks. Here we have the complete review of the tablet. The tablet has a perfect size that is comfortable in a single hand, as you can see in the image above. Is the tablet worth the price? Let's find out if the tablet is worth the price. Unboxing We unboxed the tablet recently. Check out the unboxing video. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0z2Yt8C1MI Box Contents The box contents include: Xolo Play Tab 7.0 In-ear headphones with mic micro USB cable Travel charger Quick Start guide Warranty Certificate Hardware The Xolo Play Tab 7.0 has a 7-inch multi-touch IPS display at 1280 x 800 pixel resolution at a pixel density of 216 PPI. The display has good viewing angles and offer vibrant colors, but it is very glossy, making it hard to use it under directly sunlight. This makes it hard to read and also hard to watch videos under in brightly lit conditions. There is a huge bezel around the display, which is also reflective. Since it is glossy, it is also prone to finger prints, as you can see in the image above. Better get a screen guard, since the ...

Samsung Galaxy S5's purported metal casing leaked recently. Now a Korean website ETNews is reporting that the Galaxy S5 would come in two variants, plastic and metal build. Samsung Galaxy S series devices usually enter mass production couple of months ahead of the launch, the new report suggests that the Galaxy S5 mass production would begin in January for March or April launch. The Galaxy S4 was announced earlier this March, and went on sale in April. So the S5 is also likely to go on sale immediately after the announcement. According to the latest rumor, the premium Galaxy S5 would come with a metal frame and a 5 inch flexible OLED display. Another variant would have a normal 5 inch OLED display and a plastic chassis. Samsung is expected to mass produce 800 thousand to 1 million units in January, which would be ramped up to 6 million units in February. According to the earlier rumors, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is rumored to come with a 64-bit Exynos / Snapdragon processor, Android 4.4 KitKat with new TouchWiz UI, 3 GB of RAM, 16-megapixel rear camera with  ISOCELL sensor and a 4,000 mAh battery. When Samsung announced the world's first curved display smartphone, we expected the entire tech industry to follow. Though the form factor has little practical usage, every company had to prove that they were indeed capable of producing a curved display smartphone with no practical use. LG, Samsung's rival from homeland to International market, were the next to follow with LG G Flex. LG proved me wrong about the practical usage part as their LG G Flex was capable of being bent(unlike Samsung's curved smartphone - Samsung Galaxy Round) and also came with a special material at the back that allowed automatic healing of scratches. In addition to the bendable body and bendable display, LG G Flex also has a bendable battery which is quite rare these days. Samsung Galaxy Round was a curved Galaxy Note 3 as the two devices had identical specifications, but LG G Flex came with a bigger low resolution screen than the company's flagship LG G2 and lost the OIS in the camera department. It is powered by the same Snapdragon 800 SoC that powers most flagships in the current market. LG G Flex comes with a 13MP camera at the back and a 2.1MP camera at the ...

The sheer volume of Chinese manufactures has seldom helped us in remembering them, but among them a few companies do stand out and one among them is Oppo. Having produced only a handful of smartphones so far, Oppo have "made it large" because of their hardware and design language in their phones. Oppo have just launched their Oppo N1 and today we have images of what is probably the company's next smartphone - Oppo R829. Via their Weibo account, Oppo have posted the image of this new device and according to Oppo's Brand Ambassador - Kedros Ng, this device is the Oppo R829. The naming convention makes us inclined to think that this is the successor of Oppo R819 which we reviewed earlier. According to sources, the Oppo R829 comes with specifications that includes a 4.5inch 720p display, Snapdragon 600 SoC and 2GB RAM. There will also be an 8MP camera at the back with LED flash making it a smaller version of their Oppo Find 5. Rumors have it that the phone will be priced at  ¥2000 (about Rs. 20,500), but unfortunately the phone is currently being made only for China. Oppo is currently trying to make its way to the Indian ...

LG G Flex successor reported to bend up to 90 degrees

$

While the LG G Flex is yet to hit retail in most parts of the world, rumors have already started making the rounds about the successor to the device. The LG G Flex II as it is expected to be called will have a screen that can bend up to 90 degrees forward. The LG G Flex can already spread open on applying pressure and this is definitely quite impressive. However, bending up to 90 degrees is akin to a laptop screen being flattened out from an open position. We're not entirely sure what purpose this would serve though it should help impact resistance. Depending on the curvature, the phone will also fit better along your leg and should be easier to slip out. The LG G Flex is one of only two phones with curved displays that are currently shipping. The other phone is the Samsung Round and is relegated to only the South Korean market. The successor to the LG G Flex should be released sometime in 2014 and the company already has plans to announce and/or release fully bendable phones sometime in 2015 so this does seem quite plausible. CyanogenMod Installer removed from Google Play Store

Just a few weeks back we'd reported on the CyanogenMod Installer making its way to Google's Play Store. The app was meant to make it easier for average users to install the extremely popular custom ROM on their Android phones. Now, the CM team reports that the application has been voluntarily removed from the app store. The team ended up removing the application after being informed by the Google Play team that it was in violation of the Developer Terms. The Play Store team mentions that the application directs users to voiding their warranty and hence cannot be allowed on the store. After reaching out to the Play team, their feedback was that though application itself is harmless, since it ‘encourages users to void their warranty’, it would not be allowed to remain in the store.  CyanogenMod has thus voluntarily removed the app from the store instead of being forcibly removed. The application essentially just directed users to activate ADB. The rest of the work is done via a desktop installer that helps users get the third party ROM onto their device. The application will be available in APK form and the CM Team is working on getting it onto the Amazon and ...
