Videocon Telecom to rollout 4G LTE FDD services in 29 cities across UP and Bihar

Videocon Telecom has announced that it plans to roll out 4G LTT FDD services on 1800 Mhz across 29 key cities UP (East), UP (West) and Bihar circles. It will invest over Rs 1200 crores in next 3 years for 4G roll out in the cities across these 3 circles. It holds 5Mhz liberalized spectrum in the 1800 Mhz band in the circles. In remaining coverage area it would offer 2G voice on own network. 4G LTE FDD technology is very efficient on 1800 MHz and allows greater speeds & accommodates higher subscriber base to provide an unmatched customer experience, says the company. The company will be the first telco to offer 4G LTT FDD services on 1800 Mhz in the country with digital voice. It will first roll out 4G in 6 cities in phase 1, 12 cities in phase 2 and remaining 11 cities on phase 3 covering the key potential cities across these circles. It will be working closely with Deloitte as their consulting partner and Huawei & NSN as their technology partner. Lenovo Vibe Shot with 16MP camera, triple-tone flash surfaces

Lenovo Vibe Shot, the company's upcoming top-end smartphone in the Vibe series has surfaced on a Thai website. The main highlight of the smartphone is its 16-megapixel rear camera with triple-tone flash for providing consistent lighting in various environments. The camera also features a BSI sensor and optical image stabilization (OIS). It has metal body and comes with a dedicated shutter key for capturing images easily. The smartphone was leaked earlier this month as Lenovo Vibe Z3 Pro in China. It would come with a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD IPS display, powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 615 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage with expansion slot. It would run on Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and come with LTE support as well. No details about the front-facing camera or battery capacity yet. A new leak has shown photos and specs of four new smartphones from Lenovo. The company is working on Vibe X3, Vibe P1, Vibe P1 Pro and Vibe S1. All the four smartphones from Lenovo appear to be made of metal instead of plastic. The high end model from the lot is the the Lenovo Vibe X3 that sports 5.5-inch display, a 20-megapixel camera, dedicated amplifiers and the Hi-Fi 3.0 software package. Moving on the Vibe S1 is expected to come in multiple colors including purple, pink and light blue. No other specs of the phone are available at present. Next up is the Vibe P1 that will feature a large 4000 mAh battery and a 64-bit octa-core chipset, 2GB of RAM, 4G LTE, and Android 5.0 out of the box. The P1 Pro on the other hand will have a 5000mAh battery and fingerprint sensor. Both these devices will have quick charging and ceramic nano coating for the chassis. Android Wear 5.0.2 update starts rolling out

Google has started rolling out Android Wear 5.0.2 update for several smartwatches. The latest update is coming to Samsung Gear Live, LG G Watch, Moto 360 and the Sony Smartwatch 3. The latest update is not a major one and does not add any new features.  The Android 5.0.2 mostly introduces bug fixes and security improvements. It adds some update to Google Play Services along with bringing performance enhancements to the devices. This update also fixes Google Fit Sync issues particularly the discrepancies that users were seeing in step counting between smartwatches and smartphones. The update is coming in batches and will roll out to the devices by next week. In order to update your watch, your battery needs to be charged to at least 80%. Once you receive the update notification, press "Download" and the update will begin. The build number for Android Wear 5.0.2 on the Moto 360 is LWX49L For the Gear Live it is LWX49K.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 2 8-inch and 9.7-inch specs surface

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 2 tablets in 8-inch (SM-T710) and 9.7-inch variants soon will be unveiled soon, according to Sammobile. It has also leaked the specifications of the tablets that would come with 2048×1536 pixels 4:3 Super AMOLED displays, similar to the iPad Air', instead of 2560×1600 pixels WQXGA 16:10 displays on the first Tab S series. These tablets will just be 5.4mm thin, making it thinner than the iPad Air 2 that is 6.1mm thick, according to the leak, as rumored earlier. According to Sammobile's sources the tablet will be powered by an Octa-Core Exynos 5433, but it expects it to be powered by an Octa-Core 7420 processor. These tablets will have metallic frame, but it is not clear the back would be similar to the first Tab S series. We still don't have an image of the tablet yet, check out the detailed specifications below. Google Inbox for iPad and Android tablets launched

Google is expanding the availability of Inbox to more devices. The standalone email app from the company is now coming to iPad and Android tablets. "It’s always hard to know when it’s time to share a new product, because there’s always just a _few_ more things you want to do. Today we’re happy to check off some of these to-dos for Inbox, making it easier to use on more devices and browsers." posted Taylor Kourim, Software Engineer, on Gmail blog. Launched in October last year, Inbox was available only on Android and iPhones. The email app which is not an alternative or replacement to Gmail has a feature called Bundles, which groups together similar messages. It also comes with “Highlights" feature which makes it easier to find important emails. In addition to being available on iPad and Android tablet, Inbox can now be accessed via Firefox,Safari and Chrome. IFTTT unveils new Do camera, Do note and Do button apps

IFTTT, the internet automation service has launched three new apps and rebranded its main app. The free apps - Do Button, Do Camera and Do Note are available on Android and iOS. Do Camera allows you to create buttons specifically for quickly triggering photo-related recipes. The app lets you set up to three one-push recipes for a variety of apps. Anything you can do with an IFTTT recipe can be turned into a button in this camera app. Secondly, Do Note app enables users to send quick notes and memos, actions like emailing notes to yourself, adding items to a to-do list, and composing a tweet or Facebook status. Finally, Do Button lets you instantly access your most-used IFTTT recipes. Similar to Camera and Note, you can program Do Button with a maximum of three actions. The new "Do" apps will be accompanied by a newly-rebranded IFTTT app, which henceforth will be known simply as "IF. IFTTT — short for "if this, then that" is known for its platform 'Recipes'that lets users automate online and mobile actions in and between different apps and services.

Pebble teases new thinner watch with color display

Following the report of launching new products and a software platform in 2015 earlier, Pebble is now teasing a new model for a smartwatch that will be announced next week on Tuesday as per a countdown on its official site. The new watch from Pebble will have a wider screen and it will have a color e-paper display. It seems like that this one will be thinner in design that the existing Pebble or Pebble Steel. Moving on, it is touted that the new watch will come with a built-in microphone.  The new watch will reportedly run a brand new version of Pebble’s operating system that is designed by the tea behind webOS. Kingston introduced its 128GB Class 10 UHS-I Speed Class 1 (U1) microSD for smartphones and tablets last year. It is not available in India yet, but we manged to get one for review before it launches here. Since this is a class 10 Card, it promises a minimum data transfer rate of 10MB/s. BlackBerry 10.3.1 starts rolling out for BB 10 phones

BlackBerry has started rolling out a major software update to BB 10 smartphones. The 10.3.1 update will come to devices like Z10, Q5, Q10, Z30, Z3, Porsche Design P’9983, and the Passport. BlackBerry 10 OS 10.3.1 gives users the ability to access both the BlackBerry World appstore and the Amazon Appstore that provides access to a host of Android applications previously unavailable on the BlackBerry platform. The new software will allow its users to access its new BlackBerry Blend feature that lets users get message notifications, read and respond to work and personal email, text and other messages, while also accessing files, calendars, contacts and other media, on whatever device one is using. Yahoo debuts mobile developer suite for app makers

Yahoo has introduced a Mobile developer suite- a set of tools that pulls in Flurry analytics. It is built on five products to help developers, measure, advertise, monetize and enhance their apps. The suite, unveiled in San Francisco at the company’s first developer conference. The new mobile development suite combines Flurry’s analytics tools with the mobile search and advertising tools developed by Yahoo. The company had acquired Flurry, a mobile analytics company in August. Mayer said 320,000 developers have created 630,000 apps using the Flurry analytics platform. Flurry Pulse, which lets app makers share data with partners, and measure audience size through a new integration with ComScore, the digital analytics company. Another new product, Yahoo Search in App, gives apps the ability to use Yahoo's search engine to scour the Web. Yahoo App Publishing also uses the same Flurry SDK to let developers add native ads to their apps using the Gemini ad platform. Yahoo also announced that Gemini native ads and BrightRoll video add platform are both available via the Flurry SDK.

Google Docs, Sheets and Slide updated with minor UI redesigns and more

Google has added a couple of minor tweaks to Google Drive companion apps. The Docs, Sheets and Slide Android apps are getting few additions to enhance the user experience. First up, Google Docs is getting support for selecting, cutting, copying and pasting text along with images, tables, and charts in Office Compatibility Mode. It also adds the ability to insert links in Google documents. The action bar is now switched position with the toggle between list view and grid view for Docs, Sheet and Slides app.  An Open document button has been added in place of the toggle switch. The small redesign also looks the same on landscape mode on a table. Finally, a new product tour option has been added in the About option, which simply opens up the welcome screen as if the user is visiting it for the first time. It is surely a minor change but it makes accessing the apps more smooth and streamlined. via

YouTube for kids launching on Feb 23 for Android

Google is gearing up to launch a new YouTube app that is aimed specifically at kids, according to a report from USA Today. Dubbed as YouTube Kids, the app will be launched on February 23. Available only on Android, the app will offer original episodes of TV shows aimed at youngsters, in addition to videos from child-centric channels on YouTube. As per the report, YouTube Kids will be separate to the main YouTube service and feature a homescreen with eight options made up of choices from kids TV shows and other popular recommendations. It will have four main option - shows, music, learning, and explore, which will let kids browse through top videos. “Parents were constantly asking us, can you make YouTube a better place for our kids. (Year over year) we’ve seen 50 percent growth in viewing time on YouTube, but for our family entertainment channels, it’s more like 200 percent.” Shimrit Ben-Yair, the project’s group product manager, told USA Today.
