Apple shuts down Online Sales in Russia

The continuous weakening of the Russian Ruble over the past few days has taken a major casualty in the world of technology with Apple being forced to shut down its Russian Online Store after confirming the constant conditions mean it doesn't know which to charge customers. In the past 24 hours, Russia's currency has taken a nosedive by losing as much as 19 percent and despite an enormous interest rate rise overnight to 17 percent, the Ruble isn't showing signs of rectifying the decline. At close of play, the Ruble had slipped to over 80 per dollar in comparison to below 40 at the beginning of the year. Alan Hely, a spokesman for the Cupertino-based company, wrote in an emailed statement to Bloomberg: “Our online store in Russia is currently unavailable while we review pricing. We apologize to customers for any inconvenience.” Prior to the incredible recent volatility of the Ruble, Apple had dealt with the fluctuations by raising the prices charged to customers. Last month the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus prices were raised by 25 percent to counter the fluctuation in the Ruble but with the current conditions resulting in significant fluctuations almost hourly, the company has been forced to suspend its online store.

Instagram for Android and iPhone have been updated with five new photo filters - Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden and Perpetua. It got Mayfair and Willow filters back in December 2012, it took two years for the company to add more filters. The way the filters are displayed are updated to make it easier to choose between filters. When you are about to apply a filter, each filter icon on the bottom now displays a blurred preview of your photo with its effect applied. This lets you see at a glance how your photo will appear with each filter applied, says the company. There is a new manage button at the end of your filter tray so that you can re-arrange the order of filters and hide rarely used filters. You can just tap and hold to rearrange and hide filters on the filter screen. Tap the manage icon at the end of the row to add filters back. This is not currently available for video filters. These new features are available for Instagram v6.4.0 for iPhone and version 6.12.0 for Android from the respective app stores.

Canada is backing the continued growth and existence of BlackBerry with a large 5-year $850 million loan to British communications giant Vodafone Group. Under the terms of the agreement, Vodafone will use $750 million to purchase equipment and services produced by BlackBerry and the other $100 million with smaller Canadian companies. The Globe and Mail report that this is second such deal in two years between Canada and Vodafone to ensure the latter continues to purchase and promote BlackBerry's range of services. It marks the second time in two years that EDC has financed BlackBerry export sales to Vodafone, and the second BlackBerry-related financing with a major European telecom. At the end of 2012, EDC lent $750-million, which Vodafone recently repaid. And last year, EDC provided $256-million in loans to Telefonica SA of Spain, also to finance BlackBerry purchases. Todd Winterhalt, Vice President of International Development at Export Development Canada - the federal government's export lender - confirmed that the deal is being made at commercial terms but would not comment on the rate being charged. The loan will allow BlackBerry to "solidify their presence" in Europe's various emerging markets that Vodafone currently operates in and is seen as crucial to CEO John Chen's ...

It is expected to come with a 5.5-inch HD display, powered by a 1.7GHz MT6592 Octa-Core processor with MT6290 modem for 4G LTE, 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage with expansion slot, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera, Android 4.4.2 Kitkat and a 2500mAh battery. Asus ZenWatches launches in the UK on Dec 23 for £199

When they announced the ZenWatch back at IFA, Asus claimed it would arrive before Christmas and they've just about kept to their word. The stylish Android Wear watch will land in the UK exclusively at Currys and PC World on December 23rd for the princely sum of £199 (which is somewhat discerning given the $199 launch price in the USA). Unlike some of its key rivals - mainly the Smartwatch 3, LG G Watch R and Motorola Moto 360 - the Asus ZenWatch combines the best of both worlds and sports a square display with rounded edges. The result is a stylish and unique looking watch that comes equipped with an impressive leather strap and the ability to customise it further using any standard watch strap. The launch of the Asus ZenWatch in the US was met with a series of price drops and a lack of availability at Best Buy and Asus will be hoping the same doesn't happen in the UK. The watch will land with the Dixons Carphone Group companies two days before Christmas and if you're aiming to buy one as a gift, chances are you'll need to go in-store as it won't launch in time for Christmas ...

BlackBerry have today officially unveiled their new BlackBerry Classic smartphone (although it went up for pre-order a few weeks back) and the company said shipments of its new handset would begin this week. However, in the UK it seems you'll have a while to wait yet as the handset is not set to begin shipping until mid-January. BlackBerry's UK Online Store states that Classic shipments are expected to begin in the middle of next month and this information is verified by online retailer Unlocked Mobiles who state that stock of the Classic is due in the 1st week of January. In comparison, the BlackBerry US Online Store states that the Classic will ship on 31st December 2014 for new orders, but for those who don't want to wait, Amazon US have the handset in stock and ready to ship. The Classic is designed to be the next-generation evolution of the iconic Bold range. Looking akin to a cross between the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9790, the Classic offers features that will feel familiar to any BlackBerry user whilst also sporting specs designed for a modern handset. The front features a four row full QWERTY keyboard with the iconic BlackBerry navigation keys and trackpad above it ...

Micromax and Cyanogen are all set to launch the YU smartphone tomorrow, at 11:30 A.M in New Delhi. After an extensive marketing campaign on its social media channels, the second largest Indian smartphone manufacturer is finally going to launch its new device, the only one that can run the Cyanogen OS in this country. We've been hearing a lot about this device ever since the word first started to spread, and there are indicators that the price is going to be disruptive for the already disrupted Indian market. As far as promotions go, the YU seems to base its complete experience around the amount of customization that the user will be able to do, one of the strong selling points of Cyanogen. As we had quipped earlier - According to the images, the smartphone resembles the Coolpad Great God F2 that was launched in China few months back so this could come with similar specs, including a 5.5-inch HD display, 1.7Ghz MT6592 octa-core processor with MT6290 modem for 4G LTE, 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage with expansion slot, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera, Android 4.4.2 Kitkat and a 2500mAh battery.
