USB Type-C reversible connector finalized, ready for production

$

The USB 3.0 Promoter Group has finalized the specifications for connector Type-C. USB Type-C will replace the existing Type-A and Type-B used across millions of computers, peripherals and portable devices today. It first came into limelight in December last year when the company announced its initial development. The USB Implementers Forum will now take the Type-C spec and start building devices, cables, and adapters that support the new reversible connector.  As it will be reversible, users will not have to check which way to insert a USB plug into a port. Moreover, the same connector will also be used at both ends of a USB cable. The reversible Type-C connector is similar to the same size as the existing Micro-USB connector that will be robust for laptops and sleek for smartphones. The openings for the connector measure roughly 8.4mm by 2.6mm and has 18 pins. It will be compatible with USB 3.1  and support up to 10Gbps transfer speed (twice the speed of today's USB 3.0). The Type-C connector will allow for increased power delivery of up to 100W, which would be enough to charge a laptop or power an external 3.5-inch desktop hard drive as well as better resistance to electro-magnetic and radio frequency interference. via:Arstechnica

Obi Mobiles is a relatively new and unknown brand in India. Riding on a media wave created by one of its investors, ex-Apple CEO John Sculley, the newly founded company launched its first ambitious product for the Indian market, a mid range device called the Obi Octopus S520. Sporting a 5 inch HD display, an 8 MP camera and the MediaTek Octa core processor (hence the name), the device is priced at Rs. 11,990, which is less for what it offers. By undercutting the competition, Obi aims to stand out, but will that be enough for people to notice a new brand? Lets find out in our full review. Unboxing We had unboxed the Obi Octopus S520 a while back, and these were the box contents that came with it - You can check the video and our first impressions out, in this post. Design, build and ergonomics The Obi Octopus S520 comes in white, but has a nice two tone finish, with plastic and metal in the mix. This creates a premium look and feel for the device which is obviously designed closely on the lines of most smartphones in the market. Obi has also taken inspiration from the iPhone, as is evident with ...

Goophone N4: A clone of the upcoming Galaxy Note 4

When talking clone makers, China's Goophone is the one that comes to mind before any other manufacturer. Goophone has been cloning flagship phones from Apple, Samsung, etc. for years now, and according to some the maker has gained quite a reputation for that. Although we doubt the reputation part, Goophone is certainly getting the footage it would've been after. Specifications 5.7-inch 1920 x 1080p FHD display 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 CPU 2GB RAM 16GB on-board ROM 13 mega-pixel rear camera 5 mega-pixel front camera 3200mAh battery Even though this apparent flagship clone might be beaten in performance by the yesteryear Galaxy Note 2, it doesn't make the device less exciting for clone-phone seekers. Thanks to the numerous leaks and spy photos that emerge every other day, Goophone have been able to put together a (hopefully) fully functional device which buyers in China should be able to purchase soon. Thanks to the advent of e-commerce, the Goophone N4 will soon be available to buyers outside of China as well! Source | Via

MIUI V6 compared to V5 in series of screenshots

Xiaomi isn't known just for the incredibly well priced phones it sells. Another aspect that has added value to the company's popularity is the MIUI ROM. MIUI started off an a ROM for the Mi Phone or the first phone from Xiaomi, back in 2011. However, the ROM got so popular that more than a 100 devices from various manufacturers (other than Xiaomi) gained official MIUI support. [gallery link="file" ids="112359,112360,112361,112362,112363"] The current version of the ROM, version V5, is starting to get dated. That's why Xiaomi would be launching the next iteration of the forked Android ROM this month, and surprisingly, devices as old as the Xiaomi Mi 2 and the Mi 2S would also be getting support. The screenshot above compares how the new ROM would do when compared to V5. Quite clearly, Xiaomi has been bitten by the 'flat UI' bug and has designed the UI accordingly. You can't complain, since that is what the users want; Android itself ditched the 3D UI to jump to Holo a few years back. It'll be interesting to see how V6 of MIUI fares, and fortunately we don't have a lot of waiting to do to try it out! Source | Via
