According to the latest investors report from Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple's upcoming low-cost 6.1-inch iPhone model with LCD display is said to come in two variants. One that packs single SIM and another with dual-SIM dual standby (DSDS) functionality.  Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo further stated that the dual-SIM iPhone could be priced at $650 to $750, while the single SIM model could potentially be less expensive at $550 to $650. However, he didn't mention the pricing of the two OLED iPhones that will be launched alongside the 6.1-inch model, but we're pretty sure they would be on the more expensive side. In his previous research note, Kuo mentioned that one among the three 2018 iPhones models would offer the feature, but in today's latest note, he clarifies that both the 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch devices will support DSDS, while the 5.8-inch iPhone will not. Furthermore, Kuo in the past had said that Apple will use Intel's XMM 7560 and Qualcomm's Snapdragon X20 modems for faster LTE speeds and both the DSDS devices will support LTE+LTE connections. The production of the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will start three to five weeks after the two OLED models because of the inclusion of DSDS model. It also believed that the 6.1-inch LCD ...

Facebook is said to be forming team internally to design its own chipsets following the trend of limiting the dependency on chipmakers such as Intel Corp. and Qualcomm Inc. Facebook is also looking into hiring a manager to build an “end-to-end SoC/ASIC, firmware and driver development organization, according to a latest report from Bloomberg. Apple back in 2010 started shipping its own chips and Alphabet Inc.’s Google has developed its own artificial intelligence chip as well. Facebook will use chips to power hardware devices, artificial intelligence software and servers in its data centers. Facebook is also working on smart speakers, so the future generation of these devices might come with these improved custom chipsets. It also gives the company a finer control over product development and would be able to better tune its software and hardware together. Like expected Facebook declined to comment. The system on chip is a type of semiconductor that contains several discrete components built into a piece of silicon. The job listing references “expertise to build custom solutions targeted at multiple verticals including AI/ML,” indicating that the chip work could focus on a processor for artificial intelligence tasks. However, we're still a few months away before we see or hear more about the Facebook's own chipsets. Source

Last Google replaced SMS based verification with device-based Prompts. However, that was not the case for iOS, and they had to rely on Google app for two-factor authentication when logging in. To save them from the trouble, Google is now rolling out the 2-Step verification prompts for iOS Gmail app. Since SMS security codes are vulnerable to spoofing, Google implemented the “Google Prompt,”  which upon signing in to a Google app or service, your phone will receive a notification asking you to confirm your login. Additionally, Google provides more information regarding the login by disclosing browser, and the operating system is being used to sign-in, the location, IP address, and the exact time. Users were earlier instructed to install Google app, which offers full Search and Feed experience. A notification will be displayed asking users to open the app where they will be greeted with a full-screen Prompt. If both Gmail and Google app is installed, the prompt will default to Gmail. This security functionality will be rolling out in the coming weeks. Source

Snapchat released the Lens Studio for Mac and Windows that lets you design and build AR lenses for Snapchat back in December. Today it is bringing a new set of features for Lens Studio including seven brand new templates for the creation of face lenses. Prior to this feature, Snapchat would only allow World Lens creation within Lens Studio meaning; developers could only create 3D AR objects but not overlay AR experiences over faces. However, developers can create Face Lenses, with seven different templates; Face Paint, Photo which is much like Face Paint, Distort, Trigger, 2D Objects, 3D Objects, Baseball Cap. Along with new templates, Snap is also integrating Giphy which will allow Lens Studio developers get access to Giphy’s massive library of animated GIF stickers. It is also opening up these third-party lenses to the public with the launch of Community Lens Stories. Each story will include public Snaps that are submitted on Snapchat's Story that highlight a community lens. Opening up the Snap to third-party developers and creators falls in line with the company's efforts to launch Official Creator Program which will allow Snap team to partner with select creators to offer support. This also includes visibility on the Lens Studio website as well as direct support from the Lens Studio team. Source

Intel has announced that it is shutting down the New Devices Group (NDG), and is also suspending the Vaunt smart glasses project which was revealed back in February. The report from The Information also notes that this drastic change will also result in “some layoffs” from the team that is reported to have around 200 people. It was never clear how Intel intended to bring the Vaunt smart glasses project to market, but sources suggested that Intel planned on finding a partner with the retail expertise. Jerry Bautista, the lead for Vaunt, back in December said that they are working with key ecosystem hardware providers regardless if they’re frames or lenses and things like that. Intel failed in creating and bringing out consumer products and it earlier partnered with Oakley and Tag Heuer in the wearables space but both failed in bringing the success. It is disappointing to see Intel shutting down on Vaunt even before it finishes development. Intel in a statement said: Intel is continuously working on new technologies and experiences. Not all of these develop into a product we choose to take to market. The Superlight [the codename for Vaunt] project is a great example where Intel developed truly differentiated, consumer augmented reality glasses. We are going to take a disciplined approach as ...
