Huawei trademarks Mate F, Mate Flex, Mate Flexi and Mate Fold names possibly for foldable smartphones

Apart from Samsung, LG, Huawei is also working on foldable smartphone whose name is still in the hiding. However, much like LG, Huawei to has trademarked smartphone names; Mate F, Mate Flex, Mate Flexi, and Mate Fold on 21st November 2018 at the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office). The application has been included directly by the WIPO in the Global Brand Database and the registration was done by an intermediary in Munich, Germany which is the same intermediary who last week also recorded a series of Honor smartphone models. The Huawei model names happen to be registered on the exact same day and from the same city as LG. The  Huawei Mate F, Mate Flex, Mate Flexi and Mate Fold are all four categorized as 'Class 9', including smartphones. However, at this moment it remains pure speculation whether the first folding phone from the Chinese manufacturer will be named Huawei Mate Flex, Mate Flexi or Mate Fold. Either way, the Huawei foldable smartphone will be placed within the high-end Mate series. It is, therefore, possible that the device will show similarities with the Mate 20 series introduced last month. This gaming smartphone features a 7.2-inch Full HD OLED display and a 5000mAh battery. The company announced that it will showcase the first folding ...

Samsung Galaxy A series 2019 said to feature optical in-display fingerprint sensor as supplier gets finalized

0
0
Rumors in the past pointed out that the Samsung's Galaxy A series for 2019 could come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Samsung was previously expected to adopt this technology for its 2019 flagship smartphones only. However, given the company's new approach to pickup mid-range segment, the company has shifted its focus.  According to a new report, Samsung has reportedly locked down the supplier for these sensors. Galaxy A series to feature optical display-based fingerprint sensors and China’s Aegis Technology will reportedly be supplying the in-display fingerprint sensor for the Galaxy A (2019) series. These sensors will be optical sensors, though, not as advanced as the Qualcomm's ultrasonic sensor that will ship with the Galaxy S10. Optical sensors work by lighting up the screen and having the light reflect off the finger. This will allow the sensor to capture the image and use the algorithm to detect the pattern which is unique for every fingerprint. Chinese manufacturers that already have devices with display-based fingerprint sensors on the market largely use these optical sensors. Ultrasonic sensors are more accurate as they use ultrasound to create a 3D image of the fingerprint. The highly detailed 3D reproduction of the fingerprint allows for improved security as well. ...

WhatsApp seems to be rolling out new features which include the ability to view videos directly in the push notification and new UI improvements for group calls for its iOS beta version.  The new UI improvements for Group calls are available for the 2.18.110.17 IOS beta, while the ability to view videos directly in the push notification seems to be enabled for some with version number 2.18.102.5. These features are not available for Android yet but should be made available in the days to come. The new group calling improvements bring a new Group call button in your group chats, which is the only way, for now, to see if you have got the feature or not. When you tap the button, WhatsApp will present in a sheet a list of all possible participants you can start a call with. Apparently. As mentioned: My wife can use the new function, a friend's wife cannot. Both use the App Store version, have never used a beta. According to a new report, Logitech International SA is said to be in discussions to acquire Plantronics Inc, a U.S. maker of Bluetooth earpieces and gaming headsets. This deal, when happens would be by far Logitech’s largest acquisition and would be a push in the right direction for the company’s goal to diversify its business. This would also help both the companies to keep down the manufacturing costs following the introduction of tariffs on imports from China into the United States. Logitech said to have offered more than $2.2 billion to acquire Plantronics, sources say. As of the end of trading on Friday, Plantronics had a market capitalization of about $2 billion. If negotiations are successful, a deal between Logitech and Plantronics could come as early as next week. It is also possible that no agreement would be reached. Plantronics declined to comment, while Logitech did not respond to a request for comment. Logitech’s and Plantronics’ businesses have been under a lot of pressure, thanks to various offerings from brands like Microsoft Inc and Google. Back in 2017, Logitech acquired ASTRO Gaming for $85 million to expand the sector. Since nothing is official yet, we should know more details in the coming week. Source

Huawei said to be testing Google’s Fuchsia OS on Kirin 970 powered Honor Play

It is already known that Google is testing Fuchsia operating system for months now, though it never spoke about it publicly. It is also speculated that eventually, Fuchsia will replace the Android operating system completely, and possibly even Chrome OS too. While we know nothing about the OS, we now know that Huawei could be the first OEM to boot Fuchsia OS.  The company is allegedly test-driving the OS on the Honor Play. A new commit in the Fuchsia source code has revealed that Huawei has managed to boot the Zircon kernel on the Honor Play. The Zircon kernel–separate from the Linux kernel Android is based on–in its finished state will serve as Fuchsia’s kernel. While it is still far from being finished or stable, it is still a good start. The patch adds support for the HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC to the Zircon kernel, and the Honor Play is one of the smartphones with this chipset. Apart from Honor Play, there is the Huawei P20 lineup, the Huawei Mate 10 lineup, the Honor 10, the Honor View 10, and more. However, this means nothing to the end user since Fuchsia is currently in an unfinished state and we have no clue when it will be. Right now, it is just a ...
