Realme 2 with a notch, dual rear cameras, 4230mAh battery launching in India on August 28

After a teaser, Realme has announced that the Realme 2, successor of  Realme 1 in India on August 28th. The company already teased that the phone will have a notch and feature dual rear cameras. The company today confirmed that it will pack a 4230mAh battery compared to the 3300mAh battery in the predecessor. OnePlus 6 OxygenOS closed beta registrations now open

OnePlus already released open beta for the OnePlus 6 back in May, and it keeps updating it frequently.  Now the company has announced that it is opening registrations for closed beta program to get feedback and refine or revise the OxygenOS based on that before pushing the public beta. The closed beta usually includes an elite crew of OnePlus community members who are not allowed to share the builds with others since they get new features weeks or even months before they are released to the public. The company also says that those who are selected for this are required to sign an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) with OnePlus to be part of this program. It will be selecting 100 people into this Closed Beta Program, and in order to be eligible the OnePlus 6 users need to be an active member of OnePlus Community and should be willing to constantly communicate and provide feedback to the OnePlus team on Slack Those who are interested can register here. Apple said to be planning on opening flagship outlets in key locations in India to drive sales

With Apple plans to open its own Stores in India pending due to government's approval, the company is seeking to open biggest franchisee outlets at key locations in metropolitan cities in India. According to a latest report, the 5-6 franchisee-run outlets will each be at least three times larger than the current, 1,000-square foot stores and may even go up to 5,000 square foot. Though the Apple outlets are a “stepdown” version of the iconic company-owned Apple Retail Stores, these outlets will come up in “extremely prominent locations” as anchor shops in malls and high-street shopping areas, said the executives. It is already reported that Apple is planning to regain its position in India with strong retail strategy, Stores, dedicated services and more. It is hoping to drive experience-based sales after the steep setback brought about by excessive online discounting. The company currently has about 150  Premium Reseller stores run by the franchisees in India, which are up to 1,500 square feet in area. It's safe to say that Xiaomi can be credited for kickstarting the whole affordable flagship trend with the launch of the Mi3 way back in 2014. OnePlus has released new OxygenOS 5.1.5 update for the OnePlus 5 and the 5T that finally brings support for Project Treble, after it was released in a beta update back in July. At that time it said that it has finally found a solution to bring Treble support after several months of evaluation and hard work, even though last year it said that old devices won’t get Project treble.  It also now lets you confirm your PIN without tapping, which was introduced in OxygenOS 5.1.11 update for the OnePlus 6 last week. Update- August 22, 2018 - Video has released a new video teaser highlighting the design and features of the smartphone. It also confirms 8GB RAM and 128GB storage for the smartphone. It also uses an improved fourth-generation in-display fingerprint sensor. The company also said that it will have an AI dual rear cameras, one with super wide-angle lens, which seem similar to the one in the LG smartphones. It has 3D aurora finish on the back and also reveals a 3.5mm audio jack on the top. The company has started taking registrations for the smartphone from today, August 20 till September 5th, so it could be announced sometime in early September. Qualcomm confirms its upcoming flagship 7nm 5G-capable mobile platform with on-device AI will power smartphones in 2019

After rumors, Qualcomm has officially confirmed that its  upcoming flagship mobile platform will feature a system-on-chip (SoC) built on the 7nm process node. It also hinted that it will be 5G-capable and can be paired with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G modem to power premium tier smartphones and other mobile devices. Qualcomm has begun sampling of its upcoming flagship mobile platform to multiple OEMs developing next-generation consumer devices.  It also said that it will be power-efficient with on-device AI, as rumored. It will offer superior battery life, and performance while extending globally to innovative technologies, solutions, experiences and applications in automotive and IoT. A recent report said that it be called Snapdragon SM8150 instead of 855, as rumored earlier. Qualcomm's next-generation flagship mobile platform is expected to power first 5G mobile hotspots by the end of 2018, and smartphones in the first half of 2019. Xiaomi launched the second-generation Android One device - Mi A2 in India earlier this month. At the event, Xiaomi and Google promised Android version updates along with monthly security patch updates as the device was launched under the Android One program. Going by the history of first gen of Android One device Mi A1, Xiaomi has managed to provide monthly security patch updates, at the time of writing Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite have already received August security patch while Mi A1 is yet to receive it.  In past, the company has struggled to deliver on the promise of keeping the Android version up to date, as Mi A1 received Android Oreo 8.1 update in June 2018, the same update was rolled out to Mi A1 Beta ROM testers in mid-June. HMD Global at the Nokia 6.1 Plus launch in India had announced that it is rolling out new camera experiences with enhanced functionality and user experience for Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 6.1 users. Today it has started rolling out the features for the phones. The AI stickers is available for Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 7 Plus.  This update lets users easily switch between aspect ratios and shooting functions, as well as adjust parameters within different camera modes, such as the intensity of effects like Bokeh and Beautify. Furthermore, it also brings Google Lens and Motions integration directly into the viewfinder. Google Lens provide information about the world around you in real time like overlaying information about objects right in the viewfinder or copy-paste text from the real world to your phone. As for the Motions, it allows you to capture short videos which can be shared directly to messaging services and social media as a GIF. The update is available via Google Play Store for the said smartphones.

Xiaomi reports 68.3% increase in revenue in Q2 2018, smartphone revenue up 58.7% YoY

Xiaomi today reported its earning  for the second quarter (Q2 2018) and first half of 2018 (H1 2018) ended June 30, 2018. It reported revenue of 45.24 billion yuan (US$6.60 billion), an increase of 68.3% year-on-year, among which international revenue grew 151.7% year-on-year to 16.4 billion yuan, accounting for 36.3 percent of total revenue. Operating (loss) was 7.5 million yuan compared to 3.6 million the same quarter last year. Adjusted profit grew 25.1% to 2.1 billion yuan year-on-year. All business segments achieved strong revenue growth, with the fastest growth seen in our IoT and lifestyle products segment, said Xiaomi. Net profit for the second quarter was 14.63 billion yuan, from a loss of 7.03 billion yuan in Q1 2018. Adjusted profit (Non-IFRS Measure) increased by 25.1% year-on-year to 2.1 million yuan. International revenue grew 151.7% year-on-year to 16.4 billion yuan, which accounted for 36.3% of the total revenue Smartphones segment recorded approximately 30.5 billion yuan in revenue for the second quarter of 2018, representing year-on-year growth of 58.7%. Now a Russian blog has posted more live images of the phone, box contents as well as camera samples from the smartphone. Since this is pre-release hardware, EXIF mentions the phone as "QCAM-AA".
