Samsung seems to be working on a followup to its Odyssey VR headset which was launched last year. The new model 'Samsung HMD Odyssey+' has now appeared passing through the FCC, suggesting that the launch might be right around the corner.  According to the FCC documentation filed by Samsung, the headset is named the HMD Odyssey+, sporting model number XE800ZBA. The specifications of the VR headset which might change don't show any obvious major changes from the original model. It features the same 1,440 × 1,600 resolution per eye, 110-degree field of view and sports an ‘AMOLED+SFS’ but it isn't clear what the SFS stands for. it could be related to the ‘Anti SDE’ technology that Samsung has been working on. Furthermore, it also reveals features like Wider Eye box, Wider Part of Nose, Anti-fog.’ It also suggests lenses with a larger ‘sweet spot’, a more comfortable nose opening, and ability to reduce lens fogging. Interestingly, the Odyssey+ specs indicate ‘Windows MR / Steam VR' platform support. There’s also a chance that the Odyssey+ could offer native SteamVR compatibility. We currently don't any details regarding the launch time frame, so we need to wait for a while. Source | Via

OnePlus 6T said to launch on T-Mobile network in the US in October

0
0
According to a new report, OnePlus 6T which is rumored to be the next OnePlus flagship will be T-Mobile exclusive when it launches in the U.S later this year. This means that the OnePlus 6T will be optimized for T-Mobile's network. This in addition to the standard global version that's unlocked.  According to reports, the price of the OnePlus 6T is tentatively set at $550 and pricing stands as the major reason for OnePlus phones to be the best alternatives to the $1000 flagships in the U.S. Though the company enjoys immense popularity among Android users, it hasn't become a household name mostly because of the lack of carrier backing. With T-Mobile backing, OnePlus now has an edge in attracting more users. Instead of going the carrier way in the USA, OnePlus took a different route altogether by launching its phones unlocked directly and has built a cult following for itself. This new development falls in line with company's CEO, Pete Lau statement back in January where he said that he "would begin talking with the US carrier this year. If the right opportunity and right timing come along, we'll be very happy to experiment" Since OnePlus phones are supported on AT&T and T-Mobiles, the odds were always ...

Google is said to be working on releasing a smart speaker equipped with a display later this year, according to sources. This new smart speaker with the display will compete against rivals from Amazon.com and would round out Google's range of smart speakers that are running AI voice assistant. Furthermore, Google is targeting to ship around 3 million units in the batch, whereas, Amazon managed to ship only 315,000 units in 2017, after introducing the Echo Show last year. Google already has Smart Displays that it launched in partnership with Lenovo, JBL, LG, and others. This allows the companies to build Echo Show-like devices of their own. Google's current AI speaker lineup includes the standard Google Home, the cost-effective Home Mini, and the high-end Home Max. The upcoming smart speaker with the display would rely on voice commands but users might have the ability to play YouTube videos, check their calendars and view maps. A total of 35 million smart speakers were shipped worldwide in 2017 of which Google accounted for 32%, according to Canalys data. Sources also claim that Google is ambitious about building an end-to-end ecosystem and platform with its own product lineup. Google, as expected, declined to comment about the new Smart Speaker with a display. Source

Future releases of Android said to bring manual Google Drive backup support

0
0
Future version of Android releases could allow users to start manually backing up app data to Google Drive, according to the Android development team on the Google Issue Tracker. This backup includes your application data, call history, device settings, and text messages. Currently, Google Drive backups are done without user intervention and it depends on certain conditions like time, power status, and more. However, in the future versions of Android, users will be able to trigger the backup themselves. This makes the change of phones easy without having to worry about data loss. Using ADB on your computer, you can trigger a manual backup, but with the introduction of such features eliminates the additional work.  Android P, as it stands, only offers the ability to switch on and off auto-backup by going to Settings -> System -> Backup & Reset. But once Google adds such feature, you don't have to rely on the ADB commands anymore. While it might not be a groundbreaking feature of some sorts for an average consumer, it sure is a life-saving option for those who change phones frequently. Source | Via

Details about Qualcomm's upcoming flagship Snapdragon 855 SoC, successor of Snapdragon 845 surfaced earlier this year. A recent report said that TSMC will be making the 7nm (FinFET) chips and the production will start by the end of 2018 or early 2019. Now another report reveals that the company might go for a new naming scheme.  Snapdragon 855 codenamed "Hana" internally called SDM855 will reportedly launch as SM8150. The name change is presumably to make it easier to distinguish SoCs for smartphones and the one used in laptops.  The company is also said to rename its ARM-based laptop processor previously developed as the SDM1000 codenmaed "Poipu" to SCX8180. The SM7150 and SM7250 names have also surfaced, which could be the Snapdragon 670 and Snapdragon 710, the company's latest mid-range 10nm SoCs. The Snapdragon SM8150 SoC is also expected to feature a dedicated AI processing unit, similar to Huawei's Kirin 970 that was introduced last year as the world’s first mobile SoC with dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU). Motorola One Android One smartphone with the model number XT1941 has been certified by TENAA in China, after the press images of the phone surfaced in renders.  The smartphone that surfaced in live images and TENAA certification  was actually the P30 that was introduced in China earlier this week. [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="640"] Image AH[/caption] This certification site reveals a glass back, 5.86-inch HD+ 19:9 aspect ratio screen with a notch, 2.2GHz Octa-Core SoC (which could be Snapdragon 626 or 630), up to 6GB RAM, 13MP rear camera along with a secondary camera that are separated by an LED flash in the middle, and an 8MP front camera. TENAA even says that the phone has four cameras, so it could house a secondary front camera.
