Facebook today has introduced 'Connectivity' which is its new umbrella organization that contains the company's various Internet-for-all projects including the Internet.org. The aim of Connectivity is to bring internet access to the 4 billion people who still don't have it and improve internet infrastructure in less-connected parts of the world. This project in short looks like a collective endeavor to link people who lack internet access that was started by the Internet.org back in 2013 which is its first step to start connecting the unconnected parts of the world. This initiative is also the home of Facebook's "high-altitude platform" projects for beaming down Wi-Fi lasers to unconnected. Facebook back in June said that it is no longer building aircrafts like Aquila, but that it will continue to work with partner companies like the aerospace manufacturer Airbus to invest in that kind of technology and to increase access via towers and satellites. It is also announcing new analytics tools that gives more insights of even more user data to aid wireless operators and mobile device makers. Another tool on the list is the Actionable Insights. It collects information about network coverage and download speeds from Facebook users. The Connectivity group's projects include Terragraph, which aims to connect high-density urban areas; OpenCellular, an ...

Tencent has silently launched the PUBG lite version of its battle royale shooter in the Philippines. PUBG is company's most popular battle royale game across the globe. The LITE version is based on Unreal Engine 4, and it's optimized for devices with low RAM. This move makes the PUBG Mobile Lite compatible with more Android phones including the low-end models without necessarily compromising the gameplay experience. The company claims that the experience of both remains the same but with greater device compatibility. Changes over the original include a smaller map clocking in at 2x2 km a map (ordinarily 8x8 km), and instead of 100 players, each match can only fit 40. The beta access to the Lite version is currently limited to the Philippines and no information about the wide release. The game doesn't seem to be working even if you wish to side-load the APK and the OBB files. Reviews on the Play Store state that the graphics aren't as good in PUBG Mobile Lite as they are in the regular release, but that is a given. If you are a reader from the Philippines, you can download the PUBG Mobile Lite from the Play Store. You can also join the PUBG Mobile Lite Facebook group to stay ...

The Unicode Consortium is working on a list of a total 179 emojis that it will be bringing Unicode 12 in 2019. The new candidates for Unicode 12 include service dog, deaf people, and mixed-race couples. Unicode said that the list of draft candidates will be reviewed and finalized this September. Additionally, Emojipedia also listed the provisional candidates for 2020 including a ninja, magic wand, mammoth, feather, and dodo. Unicode president Mark Davis said: Leading up to July, we'd already decided on the bulk of the candidates for 2019. We had a special focus on accessibility, and were working out how to do a last few accessibility emoji and how to handle mixed-skin-tone groups. In July, we further solidified the draft specification for Emoji 12.0, and added to the candidate list two new accessibility emoji and the 55 mixed-skin-tone couples. Source ...

Back in June Xiaomi announced that the combined sales of Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro have crossed 5 million sales in India, since it was launched back in February this year, and also claimed that it is the fastest selling phone series in India to cross the 5 million mark in the given time across all platforms. Today the company has started selling the Redmi Note 5 Pro through open sale, after conducting weekly sales for about 6 months. Even though the company says that the phone is now available 24 x 7, there is still a huge demand for the 6GB RAM version of smartphone since the 6GB RAM Black and Gold variants were sold out on Flipkart. It's same on Mi.com as well since the 6GB RAM version of the phone is out of stock. The Xiaomi Mi A2 which was launched in India last week will go on sale for the first time on August 16th  on Amazon.in, Mi.com as well as Mi Home stores. Hope it will have enough stocks of the smartphone.

Google is said to be secretly working on a project dubbed 'Campfire' which is its mission to get the Windows 10 running on Chromebooks. Since then there have been references about this ability and latest we hear is that “Campfire” may be the Chromebook equivalent of Apple’s Boot Camp. Earlier this year Chrome OS developers had created a new firmware branch of the Google Pixelbooks named "eve-campfire" and started working on the new  “Alt OS mode” for this branch and it is later confirmed that Alt OS mode is nothing but Windows 10 and is also said to be intended for public release. Though there's a chance that Alt OS and Campfire won’t make it to the hundreds of Chromebooks, then again it would a total waste of resource to bring such ability just for Google Pixebooks. Making that true, there are multiple “campfire variants,” and changes merging into the master branch instead of device-specific branches indicate that the Google Pixelbook won’t be the only Chromebook with Campfire support. Since the support means putting the devices into testing, it would be fair to assume that it could be limited to select Chromebooks or even only to Google-branded devices. Since this is directly from Google on Chromebooks, enabling Alt OS ...

Facebook back in April announced its plans to bring more authentic and transparent ways to ensure secure connections between users and page and communities. Now it is introducing Page publishing authorization starting with people that manage a Page with a large audience in the US. It is also adding primary country location and Page merge details to the Page Info tab that it introduced in June. Users who are managing Pages will be asked to complete an authorization process in order to continue to post, making it harder for people to administer a Page using a fake or compromised account. Authorization asks people who manage these Pages to secure their account with two-factor authentication and confirm their primary country location. Facebook will throw a notification at the top of their News Feed if a Page manager requires authorization. This should only take a few minutes to complete. They won’t be able to post on their Page if they don’t complete the process. Users will start seeing more details in the info and ads section of Pages including details like when a Page has merged with another Page under Page History. A new section called People Who Manage This Page, which will surface the ...

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has partnered with Microsoft India to digitally encrypt question papers for Class X and XII examinations. The main goal to initiate such a move is to enhance security and seamless distribution of the papers. Microsoft says that this solution was successfully tested as a pilot project in the recently held Class X compartmental examinations, across 487 examination centers with approximately 4,000 students. Through this, the controller of the examination can track the entire process using a software solution built on Windows 10 and Office 365. Microsoft further added that the overall process is automated to be highly secure with encryption, two-factor authentication, and access to download the exam papers at the examination center only 30 minutes prior to start time. It leverages features in Office 365 to encrypt and watermark the papers. The watermark has the individual center’s code imprinted on it which allows for localization and traceability in the eventuality of a paper leak. A CBSE administrator initiates the distribution of exam papers, which results in the generation of emails to the respective centers with a link to One Drive where an exam paper, specific to the exam center can be downloaded. Microsoft also said that ...

RHA, the Scottish headphone manufacturer, has a stellar reputation of making high quality earphones that look good, sound good and have generous warranty policies to boot. The RHA MA750 is well regarded as a high quality IEM that punches above its weight. RHA introduced a wireless version of the MA750 a while back, suitably called the RHA MA750 Wireless, follow along for our full review. Design Neckband style headphones aren't new at all but the RHA MA750 Wireless has enough going on here to keep things interesting. Instead of having a uniform band, the part that goes behind your head is much slimmer than usual. It makes for a much more comfortable headphone that is not noticeable even if you are lying down on your bed. The slim neckband leads to larger weighted down barrel ends that help keep the entire headset settle down on your neck. These capsule like neckband ends are where you'll find the standard control buttons. Placed on the right, the buttons are easy enough to press though the rubber cladding does require a little more pressure than we'd expect. There's also a USB Type C port here for charging.  The left side has an NFC tag embedded so ...
