Update: Option to expand notifications by swiping down is now back with MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM 8.8.2, so chances are high for Xiaomi to bring back this feature to stable update in future. Earlier: MIUI Notification panel was amongst the things that users hated back in MIUI 8 days because it didn’t have basic stock android features like bundled notifications and had painful two finger swipe down gesture to expand notifications. Xiaomi addressed the complaint and announced New Notification Shade with MIUI 9 and started rolling out the feature to MIUI Global Beta ROM users in November 2017 but MIUI Global Stable ROM users had to wait till March 2018 as company enabled New Notification Shade with MIUI 9.5 update. Redmi Note 5 Pro users are yet to receive this feature as MIUI 9.5 update for Redmi Note 5 Pro is expected to be rolled out this week. [gallery link="file" size="large" ids="254568,254569,254557"] Now, it seems like MIUI 9 Notification Shade didn’t go well as company removed a feature and it also got a makeover with MIUI 10. We already brought you first impression of MIUI 10 (China ROM) on Redmi Note 5 Pro, later we also tried leaked MIUI 10 Global Beta 8.6.14 on Redmi ...

The Vivo Nex is a hard to forget device. When we reviewed it a few days back, we went as far as to call it a milestone that will be remembered as a pivotal point in smartphone history. From the barely there bezels, the motorized slider, in-screen fingerprint reader and the top of the line internals, this is as close as you to get to a near perfect smartphone spec sheet. All Screen Design A key element chased in modern smartphone design is minimal bezels. From gigantic bars on all sides, we’ve evolved to the point where you have a mere sliver at best. But why? What is to be gained by this constant pursuit of complicated engineering? Immersiveness. Getting rid of bezels leaves you with a clean canvas that brings you face to face with your media and content. On the Vivo NEX, interacting with the smartphone is an extremely pleasurable experience because of the way the icons hover on the screen. The giant 6.59” screen merely acting as a conduit between your world of media consumption, creation and more. While Xiaomi’s Mi Mix may take the credit for starting the trend, the Vivo NEX has come the closest to the final ...

Google acknowledges it is responsible for UIDAI helpline number added to Android phonebook, will roll out a fix soon

This week Android users in India reported Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) toll-free helpline number saved in their phonebook automatically. After a sudden uproar on Twitter, UIDAI responded saying that it has not asked or communicated with any manufacturer or service provider for providing any such facility and the said '18003001947' is outdated and invalid UIDAI toll-free number. Today, Google has responded saying that it is responsive for this since the helpline number was accidentally coded into the SetUp wizard of the Android release given to OEMs for use in India back in 2014, and it has remained there since, so it got transferred to the contacts on any new device. This makes sense since some of the iOS users also saw the UIDAI contact in their phonebook, so it must have got synced when they moved from Android to iPhone. Google also assured that this is not an unauthorised access of their Android devices. It is working on a fix, which will be rolled out to all OEMs in an upcoming release of SetUp wizard. In a tweet, Google said: Our internal review has revealed that in 2014, the then UIDAI helpline number and the 112 distress helpline number were inadvertently coded into the SetUp wizard of ...

Rumors so far been suggesting that Apple might be introducing a new dual-SIM variant of the upcoming iPhones. This would allow users to use two SIM cards with dual standby. However, it appears this functionality could be limited to iPhones that will be launched in China. According to Foxconn source, the dual-SIM dual standby feature could be exclusive to the 6.1-inch low-cost LCD iPhone model.  Furthermore, new iPhones slated for a September launch is currently underway and Foxconn employees suggest that Apple is producing four unique model numbers (801, 802, 803, and 804) for the upcoming iPhones, hinting at the extra two SIM model. The 801 and 802 models are the 5.8 and 6.5-inch iPhones, while the latter two represent the 6.1-inch LCD iPhones; one with single and the another with dual SIM variant. Since the dual SIM usage is on the higher side in China and to stay competitive in the world's one of the biggest smartphone market, Apple is said to be taking this route for the first time. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also suggested that Apple is working on two 6.1-inch iPhone models for launch in 2018. While the dual-SIM model might be slightly costlier than the regular single SIM variant, he didn't mention that ...

Motorola introduced the Moto Z3 phone with 5G Moto Mod earlier this week, few months after it introduced the Moto Z3 Play. However, the Z-series phone never really gained the attention and sale figures the company wanted, and with that in mind, the company on Twitter confirmed that it wouldn't be launching anymore Moto Z-series phones in 2018.  Hi. We will not be launching any more moto z’s this year. — Motorola US (@MotorolaUS) August 2, 2018 Though this doesn't come as any surprise, it sure is a bold move from Motorola. The first-gen Moto Z phone has three models; the standard Z, the Z Play, and the Z Force. Ever since Motorola has been following the same pattern. But in response to a fan query which asked if Motorola would bring out the Moto Z3 Force, the company outright dismissed it by saying: "We will not be launching any more moto z phones this year." There are still some unanswered questions like if Motorola would continue to use the Moto Mod ecosystem now that its promised three years are up and the future of the Z-series. Let's wait to see where Motorola is aiming to go from this point.
