YouTube web player updated to adapt to different aspect ratios

YouTube today has announced it is pushing an update to the YouTube video player on the desktop. The player now automatically adapts to provide the best viewing experience based on the video’s size and your screen size. After Android and iOS, this update is now coming to the desktop.  YouTube notes that that non-wide-screen videos like vertical and square sized-videos would show black bars alongside the video, making the video really small. However, the new update moves away from the needing black bars. This change aligns the video watching experience on the desktop and mobile. What basically this does is that it removes the 16:9 frame around every video, thus allowing them to appear larger and adjust to different window sizes accordingly. The removal of the black bar around on every video has been removed, and it's especially noticeable on vertical videos. The change is now going live to everyone. Source

Fornite maker; Epic games back in May announced that Fortnite for Android will be available in Q3 of 2018. But the company is yet to officially announce a launch date, however, sources claim that the game will be launched as an exclusive for the Samsung Galaxy Note9 on August 9th. Reports also suggest that unlike most games, Fornite won't be available on Google Play Store, instead, it will be available only on a few supported handsets and the list of Android smartphones that’ll support Fortnite Mobile on Android once it launched is now leaked. This piece of information is found hidden within the source of the Fortnite Mobile page on Epic Games’ website. It also details the instruction for users on how to download and install the game on their Android smartphone. Users who have the supported handset can download the Fortnite Mobile on Android the web browser, instead, of Play Store. In the next page, users will be informed about the "security permissions” which likely refers to enabling installation from unknown sources. The reason for not offering Fortnite on Play Store is unknown at the moment. The only practical reason for this decision is because it would lose out on 30% of all sales, in-app purchases as apps distributed within the Play Store must use Google Play In-app ...

The matches list will change as your preferences evolve. You can download or update the already existing Google Maps app for iOS from App Store here. Google about the new Match feature on Maps said: Our new “match” feature will help you find your one true love. And by love, we mean your next favorite cheeseburger. [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="571"] Image: 9to5Mac[/caption] We've heard about future iPhones sporting Dual-SIM slots, in fact, the upcoming entry-level 6.1-inch iPhone 2018 with dual sim support to be priced as low as $550. To further strengthen earlier rumors, the iOS 12 developer beta 5 update that was rolled out recently shows the evidence of the dual-SIM support.  The iOS 12 beta 5 shows the support for dual SIM at least in the software front. A component of the system that is responsible for the generation of diagnostic reports includes new references to “second SIM status” and a “second SIM tray status”. Another component shows references of a “dual sim device.” These references are a clear indication that Apple is finally prepping iOS to run on future iPhones with support for Dual SIM cards. This particular feature is especially important for European and Asian markets where support for Dual SIM cards is a necessity since it eliminates the need to swap SIM cards constantly. Though this development doesn't mean that future iPhones will come with Dual SIM card slots, it sure brings a ray of hope for those who were waiting. Source

Sony Corporation has reported its revenues for the first quarter of the financial year 2018 that ended June 30, 2018. Sales increased by 5% to 1,953.6 billion yen compared to the same quarter last year due to strong growth in its Gaming and Networking division. Operating profit increased 24% to 195 billion yen year-on-year due to improvements of operating results in the G&NS segment, especially increase in PS4 software sales including sales through the network. Its Mobile communications division reported sales of 132.5 billion yen, down 26.8% from 181.2 billion yen. It reported 10.8 billion yen loss, compared to 3.6 billion yen profit a year ago. As a result, it has reduced its sales forecast to 610 billion yen and operating loss forecast to 30 billion yen in FY 2018 due to decrease in smartphone unit sales mainly in Europe and  negative impact of foreign exchange rates "Since there is a risk that the competitive environment will become even more severe, we have ...

iOS 12 beta hints at rumoured iPhone X Plus with iPad-like landscape app design

Apple is rumored to launch the large 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus later this year with a screen resolution of 1242 x 2688 pixels. Now according to a Brazilian Apple news site iHelpBR, there were pieces of evidence found in the latest iOS 12 beta update that more or less confirms the resolution and suggests the iPhone X Plus will support iPad-like landscape mode. Despite the presence of a large 5.8-inch display on the iPhone X, it does not support the iPad-like landscape mode throughout the operating system, but rather only supports limited app interfaces in landscape mode. Testing the iOS simulator and XCode with iOS 12 at a resolution of 1242 x 2688 pixels, it is discovered that the stock applications such as Calendar, Contacts, and Messages are already being optimized for a broader landscape layout. For instance, take the Calendar app which displays dates on one side, while events on the other side.  Contacts let you view a single contact card on one side and your full list of contacts on the other. Apple seems to be finally addressing the most asked implementation of the landscape with this year’s 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus. Source | Via
