Back in February, there were reports that Google is working on a web-based client for Android Messages. It looks like Google might be rolling out this very soon. The code hinted at compatibility with all major desktop browsers like Chrome, Opera, Safari, etc., rather than a stand-alone app. This feature would allow you to scan a QR code on your PC in order to pair it with the Android smartphone. Now the feature is inching closer to the launch as the Android side of the implementation seems complete. It also looks like Google Account linking is about ready to roll out as well as XDA Developers were able to enable it. Once the feature is live, you will be able to see “messages for web,” button in the menu. It will also show a popup bar at the bottom that informs you of the new Messages for Web feature, and once you press the option, it’ll take you to a new page asking you to go to scan a QR code on messages.android.com (it is currently resulting  404 error). There are new strings that hint at allowing you to link your Google account to give you a more “personalized experience.” For now, this is where the details about the Android Messages web client ...

Samsung flagships pack fingerprint sensors, iris scanners, and facial recognition tech which are more number of biometric authentications than most flagships out there. However, the company is now being sued by a US-based "data security firm," PACid Technologies, for infringing on two US patents and one Korean patent with its biometric features. The lawsuit is being filed on April 6th with the Texas Eastern District Court and comprises phones ranging from Galaxy S6 all the way to the Galaxy S8. PACid alleges that two US patents (U.S. Patent No. 9,577,994 and No. 9,876,771) and one South Korean patent (KR20110128567A) have been infringed. Additionally, Samsung Pass and Knox are also involved in the suit. PACid further adds that Samsung knows about its patents since January 2017 at the latest and that court should accept that claim. Samsung will now have to pay up to three times the standard rate of $1 per phone (35 U.S. Code § 284), or 2.82 billion USD in total. However, experts opine that PACid is nothing more than a patent troll under the disguise of a data security firm, suing companies that produce and sell products based on loose interpretations of patents. It also has a history of suing  Google, Apple, and Nintendo for patent infringement in the past. ...

Samsung Galaxy S9 was just announced, and we are starting to hear first-hand details about the Galaxy S10 which will be coming only in 2019. While foldable phones are slowly making their way, Samsung seems to be taking it slow with foldable phones. Yes, the Galaxy S10 and the S10+ will retain the same old Infinity display just like the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S8 according to a report. Samsung seems to be keeping the foldable phone separate from its primary flagship lineup, as the foldable phones will have completely different user experience for consumers. Samsung made it clear that it will only launch the foldable phone once the company is confident of “delivering the best user experience" and won’t be a gimmick and will only be launched. It is also learned that Samsung has finalized the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ display specifications and shared them with Samsung Display. Like the S9, S9+, the S10 duo will also have 5.8-inch and 6.3-inch displays, respectively. However, it is not unclear if the authenticity of the report is based on factual information or just an assumption from the publication’s sources. It is also said to feature an under-display fingerprint sensor, and it might very well happen considering in-display fingerprint ...

The U.S. Department of Commerce has banned the Chinese maker ZTE from using American technology for seven straight years for violating the terms of a sanctions settlement. The company was caught illegally shipping goods to Iran, the U.S said the officials.  This is a serious deal breaker for ZTE as 25% to 30% of the components used in the ZTE’s equipment is from the American companies that include smartphones and gear to build telecommunications networks. The company failed to comply with an agreement with the U.S. government and it pleaded guilty last year in federal court in Texas to conspiring to violate U.S. sanctions by illegally shipping U.S. goods and technology to Iran. ZTE was previously fined for shipping telecommunication equipment to Iran and North Korea. It went on to pay $890 million in fines and penalties, with an additional penalty of $300 million that could be imposed. ZTE also paid full bonuses to employees who engaged in the illegal conduct. The company later failed to issue letters of reprimand and lied about the practices to U.S. authorities. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in the statement said:“Instead of reprimanding ZTE staff and senior management, ZTE rewarded them. This egregious behavior cannot be ignored.” As per the agreement, ZTE ...

According to a latest report , Facebook is testing Messenger payments in India. Furthermore, Facebook is also said to be quietly working on building a payments platform, which is independent of WhatsApp payments. The report claims that the platform will be separate from WhatsApp and will allow peer-to-peer and peer-to-merchant payments. The company has already launched a beta version of recharge payments for mobile phone and other prepaid services on its Messenger platform. It said: “Recharge is a good way to test the market. The transaction values are small, but the volumes are high.” As expected, Facebook denied commenting. The company has a big opportunity with Payments that will allow buyers and sellers to fulfill any sorts of commercial transactions on Facebook Marketplace and Facebook Messenger. It will also allow users to buy and sell products within Facebook communities.  Brands can target, connect, and transact with users directly on the Messenger. Messenger Payments will help users to complete the transaction without having to move out of the app. Facebook-owned WhatsApp has got the Payments feature back in February, and since they run as two different entities, it is possible Facebook might be looking to focus on the payments business from all the sides.
