Xolo Play Tegra Note was expected to launch in India in October, but it didn't happen. Now the Tegra 4-powered 7-inch Android tablet has appeared on Flipkart. This is a re-branded Tegra Note tablet that was announced back in September and Xolo was announced as a partner for India launch. It has a 7-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) IPS display with support for NVIDIA DirectStylus technology and also comes with a stylus pen. It is powered by a 1.8 GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 4 CPU and runs Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean).
It has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera. It has a 1GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, expandable up to 32GB via micro SD. The connectivity features include WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, micro HDMI and it packs a 4100 mAh battery. Videocon Telecom has introduced a new tariff voucher that reduces outgoing roaming call rates by 50 percent. This pack lets customers make local calls at 50 paise per minute and STD calls at 75 paise per minute while roaming across India. Videocon was the first operator in India to make incoming calls free while on roaming on their own network, without any processing fee or a special tariff voucher. The company launched 3 free National Incoming Roaming packs recently with free incoming calling minutes while roaming on other networks.
The new special tariff voucher costs Rs. 45 and lets users make local calls at 50p/min instead of Rs. 1/minute, make STD calls at 75p/min instead of Rs. 1.50/minute, and enjoy 20 mins of free incoming calls per day instead of 75p/min for 2 weeks, while roaming across the country.

Bluetooth, a ubiquitous wireless technology that's commonly found on most devices these days, is receiving a minor core specification update today, to 4.1. The earlier update that came out in June 2010, which was Bluetooth 4.0, brought several new forward looking specifications like Bluetooth Smart, that has now enabled the use of wearables like Smartwatches, but it's getting better now. The 4.1 update brings better connection management for devices that constantly go in and out of range, like a Smartwatch and also brings bulk data transfers which can be sent as a batch once the data collection device(like a smartphone) comes inside range. Epson has announced that their printers now support mobile printing on the new Amazon's new Kindle Fire tablets running on the latest Fire OS version 3.1. The Oppo N1 is all set to be globally available starting December 10th, which is just 5 days away but as you might have known by now, we have been playing around with the device for some time now. Idea Cellular has launched Idea NetSetter MF677, a new version of 3G USB dongle, in four of its 3G circles in India. The new dongle offers speeds up to 21.6 Mbps and also lets users transfer data, stream media, and send SMS messages seamlessly while on the move. Samsung had big plans for its yesteryear flagships - Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 when it announced that both phones will be skipping Android 4.2.2 update and will be directly updated to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The big plan seemed to go well for the South Korean electronics giant as it released the Android 4.3 update for Galaxy S3 right on time, but only to be halted later because of performance issues.
Samsung Galaxy S3 started receiving the Android 4.3 update during the first week of November in parts of Europe, but eventually during the middle of the month, Samsung pulled out the update citing performance issue reasons. Some of the issues that were faced by users included - Wake up lag, Random Freezing, Huge battery drain, Bluetooth Audio issues during playback in car, Stuttering music playback with stock Samsung music app, Device freezes as soon a call is received (Black screen issue), Poor RAM management, Wi-Fi issues and more. Smartphone photography is the next big thing and Google is taking note of all the troubles faced by Nexus 5 users. In an update aimed at squashing all those bugs, Google has started rolling out the Android 4.4.1 update for Nexus 5 users. David Burke, Director of Engineering for Android at Google, says that the update can be classified in five categories. Autofocus related fixes form the first part of that. Burke says that the team has sped up the read time for surrounding imagery to gauge the surroundings and to set up the image capture algorithms accordingly. Hence the autofocus mechanism will trigger quicker, the images will be captured faster. There have also been improvements on the exposure and white balance front.
The speed improvements aren't just for capturing and post processing, the camera application itself launches quicker. Initial tests report that the application launches a whole second quicker while there's a new progress indicator in the HDR+ mode. Google has also tweaked the image capture algorithms with the photographs having a bit more contrast and more vibrant colors. After the Asus Padfone Infinity that launched MWC 2013 earlier this year, Asus is back with the Padfone mini, a small version of the Padfone with a smaller docking station. Asus has sent out press invites to media outlets for the Padfone mini launch on December 11th in Taipei, Taiwan. The small docking station to dock the Padfone mini is expected to pack a 7-inch screen and is likely to come with a built-in battery, similar to the original Padfone station. The phone would have a 4.3-inch display.
We still don't have the complete specifications of the device yet, so it is not clear if the Padfone mini would have an aluminium body like the Padfone infinity. According to the rumors, the Padfone mini would have a 4.3-inch (960 x 540 pixels) screen, powered by a Snapdragon 400 processor and a run on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean). It is expected to come with 3G connectivity, and lack 4G LTE support.
Asus did not launch the Padfone 2 or the Padfone Infinity in India. So it is not clear if the Padfone mini would come to India. Would you get one if it launches here?

Xolo launched the A600, its mid range entry in the A-series sometime back in November. It's a neat little device, powered by a MediaTek 6572W dual core processor and has modest specifications for its cheap price - Rs. 8,199. We have got it for unboxing today, and we kinda like how this device looks and feels. Yes, this is a cheap device, but that hasn't stopped other similarly priced devices like the Nokia Lumia 520 to stop short on build quality, and we think there is something very similar happening here, with the Xolo A600. Back in October there were reports that the UK telecom giant Vodafone was planning to increase its stake in the Indian unit by buying out its Indian partners. Now Economic Times reports that Vodafone Group will buy out its Indian partners by paying Analjit Singh Rs 1,241 crore and Piramal Enterprises Rs 8,900 crore for their stakes in Vodafone India. So the company would end up paying Rs 10,141 crore. Vodafone currently holds 64.38% stake in the Indian unit directly.
The latest Indian Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy permits 100% stake for foreign businesses, up from the previous limit of 74% to boost the Indian economy. Another report from PTI says that meeting with the Foreign Investment Promotion Board to consider the proposal to acquire remaining stake scheduled for today has been postponed to Monday, December 9th without any reason. The FIPB’s meeting was supposed to happen on 13th November, but it was postponed to December 6th.
