Given the downfall of Sony's smartphone business it would be no surprise if the company suddenly decides to pull the plug, but interestingly the company recently confirmed its presence at the MWC 2018 event that is scheduled to happen in February. Though Sony phones were a range back in the day, the firm got pushed away very soon by Apple, Samsung, and other Chinese brands. Given the age-old design of its smartphones, it is no wonder why Sony is struggling. Most of the design blame might be because of the philosophy of Sony president and CEO Hirai. Hirai took the position of CEO just when the WOW factor of Sony phones started phasing out. He is being credited for turning around the sinking ship, and in addition to his hands-on approach, his principles regarding design or other departments reflected Sony's culture. He says that his aim is for an emotional response rather than a technical one and not to change the award-winning design every year for the sake of changing it. Despite the fact that Sony smartphone business is not doing so well, Hira currently has no intentions to let go. Instead, he sees the smartphone business as their ticket in the communications space. ...

In the recommendations, TRAI said that both IFC and MCA (Mobile communication on airspace) service should be permitted within minimum height restriction of 3000 meters in the Indian airspace. In the in-flight connectivity onboard is provided by the IFC service providers who need to be created at annual Licence Fee of a token amount of Rs. 1 and get itself registered with the DoT. TRAI after analyzing the comments of stakeholders in its recommendations mentions that IFC doesn't necessarily be in Indian entity and the internet Services through Wi-Fi onboard should be made available when electronic devices are permitted to use only in flight mode. LG might be introducing upgraded V30 smartphone with enhanced artificial intelligence features at the Mobile World Congress which will kickstart on February 26th, according to a new report from Korea. The original LG V30 was announced back in August at IFA 2017 in Berlin. The company instead of introducing G-series flagship like it usually does at the MWC event every year, it is said to unveil the same V30 with A.I features and functionalities.  According to the report, the new version could be named “V30+‘α’." Considering LG's close relationship with Google, the upcoming model might feature Google Assistant-based AI functions. The new move might be a part of the company's new strategy to retain existing premium models for a longer period. If rumors indeed turn out correct and LG does launch a new variant of V30, G7 might be launched after several months. It is heard that LG CEO Jo has ordered a revision of the G7 smartphone from scratch, though it is anticipated that the phone might make an appearance at the MWC event. The company recently trademarked 'Icon' for smartphones and 'Iconic' for smartwatches. The company's CEO, Cho Sung-jin in an interview during the CES 2018 said "We will unveil new smartphones when it is needed. But ...

Paytm, probably the most used e-wallet app in India has received a new iOS app update, which enables users to setup BHIM UPI (one-touch payment). This was recently made available on the Android platform. Using the new BHIM UPI feature, users will be able to receive and transfer money directly into their bank account at no extra cost. The interesting part of the update is the roll out of the Paytm physical Rupay debit cards. As promised, the company has started to distribute the physical debit card to the users who are interested in the same. Android 8.0 Oreo bought a cool new feature called notification channels that lets you decide how individual notifications from the same app appear and sound, and vibrate, or not, on your phone. WhatsApp has now rolled out Notification Channel on Android 8.0 Oreo, and the feature was spotted in V2.18.18 beta release. Though it is also possible that the feature might have been rolled out in the previous versions, there's no way to tell. WhatsApp now supports 10 notification channels; group notifications, message notifications, chat history backup, critical app alerts, failure notifications, media playback, Uncategorized, other notifications, sending media, and silent notifications. Each of these settings can be further controlled individually, so you can set priorities to the notifications that you receive from the app. You can even entirely disable or control single notifications by just holding down the notification and then you'll see the type there, and you can instantly disable it. And, if you don't want to disable completely, you can change its priority by tapping All Categories, which takes you to the settings where you can choose what you want to do with it. Another important addition to recent WhatsApp update is the ability to switch from voice to video call. So, instead ...

Instagram is on the verge of introducing two new features; 'text-based stories', and stories screenshot alerts which are currently under testing. Text-based stories are not new, they are available on WhatsApp and Facebook. The text-based stories feature will be available as another option at the bottom of the Stories camera, next Boomerang and Rewind. You have the ability to chose from several fonts and backgrounds. Instagram by default selects a plain background and it also lets you upload your own image to the background. The stories-based feature was in testing since December, but it was limited to Japan, but now it looks like the feature is widespread. Another feature that is being spotted is the ability to send notifications when someone takes a screenshot of your story. The company used to send notification for direct messages previously, but now it looks like the feature is expanding to stories as well. However, Instagram will notify you once about the alert when you take a screenshot of a story, but from the second time, the alert will be sent directly. Source

iPhone X sales to be weaker than expected, 6.1-inch iPhone with LCD display coming in fall: KGI

KGI Analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo predicts lower than estimated sales of the iPhone X in China, and he believes that Apple might ship around 18-20 million units in the current quarter, which is significantly lower than the 20-30 million range. The primary reason for the downfall of sales is because of the longer replacement cycles in China. In the latest report, Kuo reaffirms the launch of three iPhone models in 2018 including a 6.1-inch, 6.5-inch OLED ‘iPhone X Plus, and successor to the iPhone X in the fall. He further added that Apple might completely stop the production of the current iPhone X altogether when production of the new 2018 models ramp up. The reason behind not so strong reception in China is because customers are holding on to their existing phones for a longer time, as well as the notch screen design has turned away potential Chinese customers. The Chinese users usually prefer large screen devices, and with the notch, the design of iPhone X might affect the real screen estate. According to report, Apple will ship around 18 million iPhone X units in Q1 2018 and about 13 million in Q2 2018. KGI expects that the iPhone X might end its run around mid-2018 with around 62 million units ...
