The company has announced that they have signed a pan-India 2G GSM ICR agreement with Aircel. They are in talks with several operators across the country for similar agreements. This would offer wider coverage and uninterrupted service across the country and also let RCOM’s 2G GSM customers to roam seamlessly on all partner networks, free of any additional cost. MediaTek introduces MT6572 chipset for budget Android smartphones

MediaTek's chipsets are very popular with the range of budget smartphone manufacturers in India. We've seen our fair share of smartphones powered by the MT6589 chipset which strikes a good balance between power, battery life and perhaps what is more important for the category, price. The brand new MT6572 chipset will help drive costs even further down while providing more functionality for phones in that segment. The dual core 1.2Ghz ARM Cortex A7 based processor supports HSPA+ 3G and TD-SCDMA for China based customers. The all in one chipset bundles Bluetooth, GPS and WiFi. The chipset can however power screens at only up to qHD resolution. Camera capabilities too top off at 5MP sensors and 720p video. This further reaffirms the fact that we will see this chip in the budget smartphone category. Going by recent trends, expect phones powered by the MT6572 to be available around June at a price point at or even below Rs. 10,000.

Looks like BlackBerry has found a replacement for Sunil Dutt who resigned as Managing Director of BlackBerry , India. BlackBerry has appointed Sunil Lalwani from within the company as the new Managing Director. He has been with the company since 2009 and was spearheading enterprise sales and has had stints at Nokia and Cisco in the past. I had met Sunil during BlackBerry World 2011 and he seems a great fit for the job considering BlackBerry's current market position. Sunil has over 20 years of experience in the telecom space. This is what  Sunil Lalvani had to say about his new role- “BlackBerry is driving the adoption of its next generation of mobile computing platform with BlackBerry 10, and India is a key market for growth of the powerful platform.  As I take up this new role, our focus will be to drive differentiated solutions for consumers and enterprise customers in India, providing a unique mobility experience that harnesses the full range of the BlackBerry offering.” The Z10 is doing quite well for the company but BlackBerry surely needs a much more affordable BlackBerry 10 handset to tap the Indian smartphone market and regain its lost ground. The first QWERTY keyboard based BlackBerry 10 ...

If you follow the tech scene closely , you must have heard about these slightly expensive cameras sold in the name of Lytro. Controversial HDR microphone removed from HTC One’s spec sheet

We'd previously reported on Nokia having tried to get a ban on HTC One sales in the Netherlands due to the use of their proprietary HAAC microphone technology. The high amplitude microphone allows the user to get a clear recording without any clipping in case of extremely loud audio. The blame has been placed on ST Microelectronics who did not have the permission to license out the microphones till February of 2014. HTC has however removed the dual membrane microphone from its spec sheets and is working on their own technology to integrate it into the One. The company maintains that all current devices are equipped with the mic and this will not affect sales. In addition, HTC will continue to integrate STM microphones in the One until it exhausts the supplies in its warehouse. HTC has issues a statement on the matter and we've included it below for your perusal. Nokia has NOT obtained an injunction in the Netherlands, or anywhere else, against the HTC One. The Dutch proceedings were brought by Nokia solely against STM. HTC was not sued by Nokia in the Netherlands. The Dutch injunction prohibits STM from selling certain microphones to any company other than Nokia for a limited period. The ...
