The IFA event at Berlin, one of the increasingly important consumer electronic trade shows, just started, but tons of devices have already been launched. Amongst them, standing out from the crowd, is the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, unveiled with much excitement and fervor, as leaks failed to provide proper information before launch. The Note 3 is the third iteration of the very popular Note series of devices Samsung made popular. The range, infamously held responsible for creating the phablet phenomenon, also created a paradigm shift in the company, for its portfolio.
Lets go back a little bit. When the first Samsung Galaxy S launched, it was very clear that the company intends to make it its flagship series, with a halo effect trickling down the range under the same Galaxy brand. And then the successor, Samsung Galaxy S2 launched, at the time which the halo effect was essentially accomplished, but there was another device that Samsung launched in the same year - the Samsung Galaxy Note.

Samsung just unveiled the highly anticipated Galaxy Note 3 at their IFA unpacked event today. Boasting a beautiful 5.7 inch full HD Super AMOLED display with a 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 800 Processor and 3 GB of RAM, it is easily one of the most powerful devices that have launched till date. But there was also another Snapdragon 800 device that impressed us with its performance and that was the Xperia Z Ultra, the first 6.44 inch device from Sony. Design wise both the devices follow the company's respective philosophies, with the Galaxy Note 3 looking like a Galaxy and the Xperia Z Ultra looking like a Xperia. However Samsung has done a few extra things to make the Note 3 fresh, especially with the leather stitched back cover adding more "warmth" to the overall feel of the phone, while the Xperia Z Ultra retains much of the design of the Xperia Z but a lot more thinner at just 6.5mm. Samsung today unveiled the next chapter of its Galaxy Note line of devices. With an even larger display stuck inside a shell that is the same size as before, Samsung has some interesting industrial design going here. Over at the back is a faux leather material that makes it a bit more comfortable to hold.
The front of the device is dominated by its 5.7 inch display. The screen is of the AMOLED variety and has a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Below it is a hardware home key that has capacitive buttons flanking it on either side. Over on the top is 3.5mm audio jack alongside the iR port while on the right side of the handset is the power key. The volume rocker on the other hand is placed on the left side of the handset.
The back of the phone has a faux leather material with a 13MP camera onboard. There's a single LED flash below it. The Note 3 is one of the first devices to be able to capture video in 4K resolution. Xiaomi has announced the most expected Mi3, successor of the Mi2 that was launched last year. It has a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display with 441 PPI, based one-glass solution (OGS) ultra-sensitive touch that lets you use the phone even when it's wet or while wearing gloves. Google has released the Android’s Platform Distribution Numbers for the period of August to September 2013. Devices running on Jelly Bean (Android 4.1 and 4.2) has jumped from 40.5% to 45.1%, a 4.6 % jump in a single month. The growth is more compared to last month. Android 4.3 Jelly Bean started rolling out for the Nexus devices and Google Play Editions of the S4 and the HTC One. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 that was unveiled yesterday would be the first non-Nexus device to launch with Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) out of the box.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 would go on sale in several countries later this month, and Sony has promised that they would roll out Android 4.3 for their devices soon. Last month we reported that HTC would launch the Dual SIM variant of the HTC One soon. The phone went on sale online last month, Now HTC and Tata Docomo has partnered to launch the phone in India officially, calling it HTC One Dual SIM +. The company says that this is the first Android phone launched in India which offers CDMA and UMTS dual SIM capability. It has similar features as the HTC One single-SIM variant including a 4.7 inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD display, 1.7 GHz quad-core processor, Android Jelly Bean with Sense 5, UltraPixel camera with LED Flash and a 2.1MP HD front-facing camera.
You can use CDMA or a UMTS/GSM SIM card as the primary SIM and a GSM SIM card as a secondary SIM. It also has a removable back cover and memory card slot that lets you expand the memory up to 64GB.

Without doubt, apple has had a lot of success with the slate design of their iPhones - from the iPhone 4 onwards, the design hasn't really changed.
For rival manufacturers, the challenge has been to design hardware that is as appealing whilst also providing an easy to use yet functional user interface. In the Ascend P6, Huawei have aimed to do just that but have they been successful? Or does the design cross the fine line between excellent design and "taking inspiration from rivals"?
The Ascend P6 follows a similar design to the iPhone 5, with the candybar design dominated by the large display. With the same 4:3 aspect ratio on the screen, the Huawei Ascend P6 looks like a larger version of Apple's current flagship smartphone.
The back of the Ascend P6 also looks almost identical to the iPhone 5 - from the camera in the top let hand corner to the Huawei logo beneath, the P6 follows an almost identical design style. It has a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS "20/20 Vision" display at 440 PPI for sharp images with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589T processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, BSI sensor and has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with 88 degree wide angle lens. There is also a photo application to view and organize images, option to create puzzles and customize specific games from the photos, choose custom settings and filters and instant photo and video sharing.

It has a 7-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) wide-viewing angle display, powered by a 1.2 GHz Quad-Core Media Tek 8389 processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera. It is just 7.9mm thick and weighs 246 grams. It has rear speakers and packs a 3450 mAh battery that offers up to 8 hours of continuous WiFi browsing. It comes with 3G SIM support and voice calling and also available in WiFi-only variant.

Samsung's dominance in the smartphone market is well-known, but the South Korean electronics giant is yet to stamp its authority on the Tablet market. Apple was the company that brought back tablets to life with their original iPad.
Samsung's Galaxy Tab 3 311 was launched in July while the iPad Mini was launched way back last year. The iPad Mini is almost at the end of its product cycle while the Tab 3 is quite fresh.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 follows the design language of the latest series of Galaxy phones with a full plastic build and a plastic rim running across the device. The iPad Mini on the other hand has a solid Aluminum build giving it a highly premium finish.
In terms of dimensions, both the tablets have almost sized screens, but the Galaxy Tab is taller while the iPad Mini is very wide. In terms of the weight, despite the aluminum build, the iPad Mini weighs just 312g which is 2g less than the 314g of Galaxy Tab 3.

The big day at IFA has come and gone but sadly there has been no official announcement of the rumoured HTC One Max phablet. Nonetheless today Samsung announced their new Galaxy Note 3 phablet and we went hands on alongside a quick comparison with the HTC One.

The two devices are classes apart in terms of both design and specifications - whilst the HTC One has a 4.7 inch Full HD display offering best-in-class 468ppi pixel density, the Galaxy Note 3 comes with a 5.7 inch Full HD 1080p Super AMOLED display that promises vibrant colours and deep blacks.
Under the hood is the biggest change - the HTC One is powered by 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor and features 2GB RAM whilst Samsung have gone all out in the Galaxy Note 3, equipping their flagship phablet with a superfast 2.3 GHz quad core Snapdragon 800 processor for LTE markets and 1.9GHz octa-core Exynos 5 processor for non-LTE markets. Today we have the new Google Nexus 7 (2013) against Samsung's Galaxy Tab 3 311. The new Nexus 7 was launched in July and is yet to be available in India while the Galaxy Tab 3 was launched in July and has been available since then in India.
The Nexus 7 comes with an upgraded processor, much better display and a rear camera which was absent in its predecessor while the Galaxy Tab 3 has Samsung's Exynos SoC.

For the first time, Apple is hosting two events for the launch of their premium iPhone. The first event is scheduled on September 10th at Apple's HQ in Cupertino and the second event is planned for Sept 11 in China. According to the rumor-mill, it is believed that Apple will be launching two iPhones this time - iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.
