It is the results season, and every company has been relentlessly working on posting its numbers for the investors to analyze, and HTC is no exception. They have just revealed their complete audited performance numbers for Q2 2013 today. With the HTC One doing well, the revenue has increased, so has the profits, but that hasn't stopped the company from expecting to post its first losses ever, from 0 to 8%, in the next quarter. The low impact of mid range devices from HTC are to be blamed as the company repeatedly ensured that it will have renewed focus on that specific market segment. On the other hand, the HTC One is apparently doing so well that the shipments have been better than what the previous flagship could do, the same time last year. This is largely thanks to the improve market performance in Asian countries like HTC's home Taiwan, China and Japan. However, reiterating the mid range problem, HTC plans to fix it by - We also have plans underway to launch a range of innovative and competitive mid-tier products in the coming months. We hope to regain momentum and market share in these segments in Q4. This will address our ...

Apple to implement a biometric fingerprint sensor on the new iPhone’s home button?

Biometric fingerprint sensors have long been a popular way of implementing secure environments, even in portable devices like a laptop. While it has reached mainstream on most professional grade notebooks, it hasn't really caught up in the mobile space, where security is of much higher importance. Companies have tried and implemented it in really niche devices, but the tech has happily avoided the mainstream. It is about to change, as seemingly true information from the iOS 7 beta 4 build points to a "Biometric Kit UI" directory that confirms that Apple is interested in implement high grade security, right on your new iPhone's home button. The leak comes from a developer how has had the opportunity to see the leaked folder on the latest iOS 7 beta build with strings like - "..touching the home button with their thumb", "A fingerprint that changes colour during the setup process" and "Recognition is %@ complete". Which more or less confirms that Apple is going to use the home button for fingerprint recognition. This definitely improves upon the easily hackable security solutions the iPhone currently offers, and is even better than the gimmicky face unlock feature on Android which can be easily faked too. ...

Sony launched its big ass new smartphone, the Xperia Z Ultra in India though it won't be available in retail till 2nd August. We've previously done a hands on with the handset that borders on being a tablet and here are some additional images of the 6.4" behemoth. Our initial impressions are quite positive and if you can look past the size, the Xperia Z Ultra is definitely a very impressive device. Sony's new Triluminous Display with with X-Reality engine works wonders and is a much needed improvement over the dim and not very impressive screen on the Xperia Z. The 6.4" panel has a resolution of 1920x1080. Additionally, there are no capacitive buttons here and users can navigate the interface through the onscreen buttons.  Over on the left side of the handset is the magnetic dock connector. Sony is bringing accessories like covers with built in batteries and a dock for the handset to India as well. The presence of a dedicated dock port instead of micro USB definitely helps here. The build quality of the handset really is quite spectacular and it has IP55 / IP58 rating for dust and water resistance. The microSD card and micro SIM card slots are hidden under a ...

Samsung has been recently having an obsession to provide solutions of convergence in weird form factors. We saw that with the Mega 6.3 and the Galaxy Note 510, both being devices with a certain feature, unknown to that specific form factor, hacked in, and the S4 Zoom falls in that same category. It is basically a Smartphone with a camera slapped on its back, or a point and shoot with a smartphone slapped on its back, you get the idea. Samsung started this trend with the Galaxy Camera, a high end point and shoot running Android, which is basically a connected camera, with 3G. Expectedly, Samsung has taken it further with the S4 Zoom adding phone functionality. Priced at Rs. 29,990, is the S4 Zoom a hack job or is it actually a good enough cameraphone? Lets find out. Does it succeed in making a case for itself ? Read on our review to find out. Design The design of the HTC Desire 600 is simultaneously fresh and yet similar. It takes the most recognizable parts of the HTC One and Butterfly to create a unique identity that both looks and feels great. Obama administration vetoes Apple iPhones/iPads import ban, South Korea concerned

In a turn of events for the Samsung-Apple patent controversy, US president Barack Obama's administration has vetoed an import and sales ban on some Apple iPhones and iPads, upending a legal upper hand for Samsung. This is reportedly the first time since 1987 that a presidential administration has vetoed a ban by the country's own International Trade Commission. This has raised a few eyebrows in the far east, in South Korea, where the media criticized the USA for protecting Apple. The above mentioned ITC ban on some Apple iPhones and iPads is said to have caused a lot of tech industry lobbying with the president's administration, which eventually ended up with this veto. This hasn't gone well with the South Korean company, which is well connected with the government there, and hence has raised concerns over protectionism displayed by the USA. "We express concerns about the negative impact that such a decision would have on the protection of patent rights," the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy, said in a statement." The initial lobbying that took place was for convincing the administration that Samsung had insisted on Apple infringing "standards essential" patents that are supposed to be widely available for all companies to ...
