Nokia just published it's Quarter 2 2013 results and posted an operating loss of EUR 115 million over revenues of Eur 5.695 billion. The device and services division in particular had losses to the tune of Eur 33 million which is below than expected. The Nokia Siemens (NSN) division made Eur 8 million over the last quarter which helped offset losses from other arms of the Finnish company. We also recently saw that the Nokia Lumia 520 has risen to the position of being the most popular Windows Phone in the world, and had hoped that it reflect positively on the results. Looks like it has indeed happened with them announcing a grand total of 7.4 million units of Lumia smartphones sold this quarter, which is up from 5.6 million last quarter. This is a 32% QoQ increase in sales of the smart devices category, says Nokia. This also seems to be the first quarter in which there has been no reported sales of Symbian or Meego devices. Last quarter, out of 6.1 million smart devices, 5.6 million were Lumias, while the rest were Symbian devices, but this time, it's all Lumia, which is quite surprising. Speaking on the results, Nokia's CEO ...

Xolo launched the Q1000, the company's latest flagship in the 'Q CORE' series back in May. Celkon had also launched the A119Q Signature HD, successor of the A119 Signature HD back in May. We review both the Q1000 and the A119Q recently since these had similar features such as 5-inch HD display, quad-core processor and Android 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean). Even though Xolo has come up with a Tegra 3-powered Xolo Play T1000, Celkon is yet to released their next flagship device. Both these devices are priced under Rs. 15,000.  We managed to compare both these devices. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSZIneoT6Wc Both these devices 5-inch IPS displays at a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixel at 294 PPI pixel density. Since the display in the Q1000 is based on one-glass solution (OGS) technology, it offers vibrant colors and reduces the thickness of the device. The Q1000 has a 1.2-megapixel font-facing camera with BSI sensor and the A119Q 3-megapixel font-facing camera. Both these have proximity and ambient light sensors. Both these have capacitive touch buttons for menu, home and back. Both the devices have micro USB slot and the 3.5mm audio jack on the top. The Celkon A119Q also has the power button on the top, which is one of a drawback since it is hard to reach to unlock ...

Samsung's Galaxy Tab range of tablets have been wildly popular in the Indian market and has helped the Korean manufacturer reach a 62% market share in the country in terms of tablet sales. The latest 7 inch offering from the company is more of an update to the winning formula than an all out new product. Here are our first impressions of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 211.  Owing to the 7 inch form factor and the type of material used, the Tab 3 211 feels incredibly light and quite comfortable too. You might argue that the design has been kept the same and the materials aren't as high quality as they could be but for a device that is aimed towards media consumption, it works. The front has a 7 inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600. The screen is of the TFT variety and while colors are good, they aren't as vibrant as on an IPS panel. Over on top you find the earpiece. Yes, the Tab 3 211 can also be used for making phone calls. Next to it is the 1.3MP front facing camera and the proximity sensors. Below the display you'll find a single hardware home ...

Alongside the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 211, the Korean manufacturer also introduced a larger 8 inch tablet dubbed the Galaxy Tab 3 310 and 311 depending on the variant. The Galaxy Tab 3 311 aims to provide a potent mix of power and focus on multimedia consumption capabilities. Does it succeed in doing this ? Read on to find out our first impressions of the product.  The front of the tablet is dominated by the 8inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 800. The screen is bright and vibrant with excellent viewing angles. The pixel density is a bit low at 189ppi but the quality of the panel makes up for it. Above the screen is an earpiece with a front facing camera and relevant sensors placed on either side. The bezel has been kept to a minimum on the sides but is adequate to place your finger while holding up the tablet. Below the tablet lies the single hardware home key and it is flanked on either side by the menu and back keys. These are of the capacitive variety. The volume rocker and power key lie on the right side of the tablet and are fairly comfortable ...

Google's financial results for Q2 2013 are out and the company has reported revenues of $14.11 billion which is an increment over the $12.21 billion it had reported last year for the same quarter. Net income too has gone up to reach $3.23 billion with earnings of $9.56 per share. The results missed predictions that revenues would touch $14.5 billion with an expectation of growth being 20 percent. Unfortunately this slightly missed estimates with actual growth being 19 percent YoY. Motorola was one of the arms at Google that resulted in losses with the company having cost $998 million. Motorola reported operating losses of $342 million which we guess can be attributed to the R&D efforts in place. Google's stock closed 7.87 points down at 910.68. The company is scheduled to host an Android centric event later this month where it will show off the next version of its popular mobile operating system alongside refreshed hardware.

With the announcement of the next version of Galaxy Note getting closer and closer, rumors continue to spread across the Internet. In the latest turn of events, Samsung has teased an updated Exynos 5 Octa SoC through their Twitter account. This updated Exynos 5 Octa is expected to feature in one of the variants of the Galaxy Note 3. The image posted by Samsung suggests an evolved SoC from the previous generation. According to the image, the already powerful Exynos 5 Octa is getting even more powerful and enhanced. If that official teasing was not enough to stir interest among the fans, a Dutch website claims to have received sketching of the Galaxy Note 3. According to the site, the sketches are from the official manual of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The first sketch of the front of the device matches with the rumors already surrounding the device which include a 5.7inch Full HD Super AMOLED, 13MP camera and Android JB OS. Apart from the rumors, one interesting thing to note is the Xenon flash accompanying the 13MP camera at the back. According to the sketches and going by Samsung's trend, there are two variants of the Galaxy Note 3 - ...

Halo has been a celebrated game franchise that was popularized during the original Xbox era. People had longed for a similar gaming experience on other Microsoft devices as the company slowly brought their different divisions together, and to much surprise, Microsoft's own 343 game studio announced Halo: Spartan Assault for Windows 8 and Windows Phone. A trailer that was revealed along with the announcement showed off a much different type of gameplay, based in the Halo universe. And today, it has landed on the Windows Phone store at $6.99, and for the same amount, you can grab it for Windows 8 here, while watching the trailer below - httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxsYQtltOco With a story set to happen in between the story lines of Halo 3 and Halo 4, it promises to bridge a gap and introduce new characters and parallel story lines along the way. In that case, it should really make religious Halo fans happy.  Unlike all the other Halo games(except for halo Wars) this is a top down shooter that is much easier to play on a touch screen rather than on a controller based environment. As the Halo Waypoint blog puts it - This new chapter lets you experience the first missions ...

Locket lets you make money through ads on your Android lockscreen

"Why didn't any one think of this before?" was the first thought that came to my mind when I read about Locket, a new innovative advertising platform that resides on your.. wait for it.. lockscreen! Yes, Locket is a simple app that displays ads on your lockscreen, and if you thought that was too intrusive, they make it up to you by letting you share their profits. With phones getting larger and larger, the screen real estate has indeed become prime property of advertisers looking at innovative ways to reach the end user. The lockscreen especially is almost always largely unused and a thing that's always looked at, when you open the screen, and this is the exact space which Locket takes advantage of. Here is a quick promo to show how it works - httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoVrkTD7nF0 The app, downloadable from Play Store is a simple lock screen that displays ads and the time/date/notifications of course. You can either engage with the ad, or simply ignore it with a swipe to the right. Either way, you get paid 1 cent for a single impression, but there is a 0.03$ limit per hour, obviously. Every other swipe you make in an hour is not ...

Motorola posts picture of Moto X being assembled in the USA

If you remember the first teaser of the Moto X, a picture with two people jumping into the water, it boasted of two things - "Designed by you. Assembled in the USA.". While the terms designed by you is still open for interpretation, Motorola has practically sealed the case for the next one by posting a tweet with a picture of the Moto X being manufactured at a Motorola plant in the USA. Yep. This guy is building exactly what you think he is. Designed by you. Assembled in the USA. pic.twitter.com/U9fhJRDmmM — Motorola Mobility (@Motorola) July 18, 2013 Motorola, being a Google company now, is following its parent's tradition of assembling new devices in the US, that primarily started with Google manufacturing its home media solution - the Nexus Q in the country. In this way, Google hopes to inspire some patriotism for its products, noting the fact that Americans are highly patriotic. But the manufacturing here largely denotes assembling of all the imported components, that are separately manufactured by various component suppliers. The suppliers are unmistakeably based in China and around the world, but the point is clear, Google and Motorola want to inspire the tech community that is largely dependent on ...

Halfbrick debuts Colossatron: Massive World Threat game trailer

From the makers of Jetpack Joyride and Fruit Ninja, we have a new game which wants you to destroy the world. The upcoming game, titled "Colossatron: Massive World Threat", is a mass destruction game helped by the concept of an Alien robot. The gameplay trailer shows that users take control of a giant robotic snake(reminds us of Mr.Cuddles from Jetpack Joyride) and cause havoc over the city's population. Upgradeable weapons and abilities allow the user more control over the chaos. The main goal of the game is to cause as much property damage as possible. Seeing clips from the trailer suggest a redefined version of the classic "Snake" game with the mix of Alien robots and mass destruction. The length of the robotic snake changes across various scenes in the trailer and one scene shows the length of the snake getting short when it is attacked. There are no details regarding when it will launch or in what platforms it will be available at launch. We are assuming that the game will be initially available on both iOS and Android and we expect a gradual rollout to other platforms. No release date has been specified either and all we know is that ...

With the rapid proliferation of budget Android devices, everybody is trying to get a slice of the pie. Not to be left behind, Videocon too has launched its latest product called the A55HD. Can the erstwhile leader of consumer electronics in India make a dent in the smartphone segment with the A55HD ? Read on to find out our impressions of the smartphone.  Design Clad in a glossy plastic material, the Videocon A55HD is a fingerprint magnet. The handset appears like a black slab with the only visible element being the chrome earpiece grille on top and the front facing camera next to it. Tapping the power button activates the display that otherwise remains almost invisible.   The piano black finish of the product is broken by the chrome strips with mesh like patterns running on the side of the phone. The left side of the phone has the volume rocker while the right side does not sport any buttons. Unfortunately Videocon has opted to place the power key on the top of the handset which makes it a stretch to reach. We'd have definitely preferred to see the power button placed on the side of the phone. Next to the power button lies the ...
