In Q4,2014, Twitter reported a total of 288 million monthly active users up from 284 million in previous quarter. It further added that an “unforeseen bug” during the iOS 8 integration caused it to lose 4 million users. Twitter also shared that average mobile monthly active users represented 80 percent of the total monthly active users for the quarter, with no change from the third quarter. Giving insights about user engagement, Twitter stated that users viewed their timelines 182 billion times, reporting a 23 percent increase year over year. However, this resulted in only 1 billion more views than the previous quarter. On average, each user generated 631 timeline views. Finally, Twitter's advertising revenue per thousand timeline views reached $2.37 in the fourth quarter of 2014, an increase of 60% ...

Uber in India now comes with a panic button

0
0
Late last year, Uber was banned from India following rape allegations and although the firm has now re-launhced in New Delhi, it comes with a promise of better safety practices. To this effect, the service is planning an update to its app and will launch an in-app panic button and the ability to send details of your trip and current location to up to five individuals. The two features will roll out in an update to the app which is set to land on February 11 and comes in response to user requests for a panic button inside Uber cars. The company found that requiring a physical in-car panic button has numerous challenges, not least that drivers who drive for multiple companies would theoretically require more than one panic button and this would lead to confusion for customers. Uber also said that the panic buttons would suffer from wear and tear over a period of time and as such, may stop working, which would only be noticed when the button is needed most. The in-app button aims to solve this as it comes without the requirement to have physical installs within a car and with the proviso that it should work every time ...

Samsung Galaxy Alpha vs Apple iPhone 6

0
0
Almost every handset announced since the launch of the first iPhone back in 2007 has been referred to as the "iPhone killer" or "iPhone copycat" at some point but mostly these claims are unfounded. In the case of the Galaxy Alpha however, Samsung have delivered a handset that shares many hallmarks with Apple's latest iPhone 6 but exactly how close are these two handsets? The iPhone 6 follows Apple's past design philosophy but is the second largest iPhone ever made (surpassed only by its bigger sibling the iPhone 6 Plus). The front is dominated by a 4.7 inch LED-backlit Retina Display with 750 x 1334 pixels resolution (which equates to approximately 326 pixels per inch density). In comparison, the Galaxy Alpha also has a 4.7 inch display with 720 x 1280 pixesl resolutions which is roughly 312 pixels per inch density. The key difference between the two however is that the Galaxy Alpha sports a Super AMOLED pentile display - whilst the Super AMOLED technology is market leading, the use of a pentile display detracts away from the quality but despite this, the Galaxy Alpha display appears better than the iPhone 6. The Galaxy Alpha was announced in August and released in September ...
