Shortly after the global launch of the iPhone 6, Apple called its latest smartphone the greatest yet and according to recent figures, this has translated into sales and a noticeable improvement in Apple's UK market share. Kantar Worldpanel Comtech report that strong sales of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus resulted in Apple's market share reaching 42.5 percent in November. In the UK, the sales of both new iPhones saw the Cupertino company's market share rise to a record 42.5 percent in November which is up from 30.3 percent a year earlier and up from 39.5 percent in Q3. The folks at Kantar accredited this to the sales of the iPhones and whilst the rise is great news for Apple, it spells bad news for Google. Apple's rise meant that Android market share dropped by 6.7 percent year on year to 49.7 percent in November. Kantar note that this was largely driven by the rapid and unexpected decline in Samsung smartphone sales although it was arrested somewhat by sales from other OEMs such as HTC, LG and Motorola. Carolina Milanesi, Chief of Research at Kantar, said: "The iPhone 6 was the best selling phone in the three months through November 2014, capturing 19 percent ...

Off late, we have been receiving a lot of requests from you folks asking us to detail about the smartphone benchmarking. We heard you and today, we try to explain what these numbers really mean to you. First up what is smartphone benchmarking? Well, it’s quite impossible for anyone of us to numerically and even scientifically evaluate the performance of a mobile phone by just using it. Of course, we can gauge how smooth is its performance, how cool is the animations, how quickly applications open and close among other similar aspects. However, it’s almost impossible to evaluate the internal performance of a mobile device and you never know how well the hardware performs. This is where the smartphone benchmarking applications come in handy and to an extent they solve the issue. You might have noticed we at FoneArena run multiple benchmarking tests for every smartphone that makes its way to our labs. The reason behind running different benchmarking test is the fact that some applications are designed to evaluate only a particular segment of the phone. Today, we would like to give you an insight of what we do and if you ever thought reviewing a smartphone is a simple task – we ...

Monster sues Apple’s Beats over stealing headphone technology

Apple's Beats has been sued by audio-equipment maker Monster over stealing headphone technology. The company says that it had played an important role in design and engineering the popular headphones. Monster has filed a lawsuit against Apple's Beats Electronics, claiming that the high-end-headphone maker's co-founders allegedly conspired to sever the headphone line from Monster before Apple bought the company last year for $3.2 billion. The law alleges Beats co-founders Jimmy Iovine and rapper Dr Dre pirated the "Beats By Dr Dre" headphone line from Monster and its CEO Noel Lee. The company alleges in the suit that Beats hid the co-created work Monster and Lee put in to the design, manufacture and distribution of the original Beats headphones, then sold 51 percent of the company to HTC for $300 million. Soon after the HTC deal, Iovine and Dre reacquired 25.5 percent of Beats, by using a "change of control" clause in the contract that effectively severed ties with Monster. Monster also claims that the company has lost millions owing to the "fraudulent activities" and "sham transactions". This is the second lawsuit on Beats as the first one was brought by the Bose Corporation over patented technology for canceling noise in earphones ...
