Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to feature unbreakable OLED display

0
0
Rumors have surfaced that Samsung will debut the Galaxy Note 3 at IFA with a brand new unbreakable OLED display. The screen is expected to utilize a plastic substrate with active LTPS matrix instead of the glass substrate used on the current Galaxy Note 2. The screen will have an RGB matrix. The flexible display with plastic substrate will feature a thinner and lighter form factor resulting in smaller sie. This will allow Samsung to install a larger battery in the device. The screen size is expected to range from 5.5" to 6 inches. Whats interesting is that while Samsung plans to produce a full HD resolution panel with real RGB, it might not be able to ramp up to the volume required or read FHD resolution at all. This is because the production lines for the panel are not expected to reach MP till Q3 and the production yield for the panel is expected to be low which will limit volumes. Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy Note 3 by Q4 2013. [Via - OLED-A]

[caption id="attachment_67492" align="alignnone" width="574"] Apple Retail Store in Barcelona, Spain[/caption] Apple just announced it earnings for the quarter ended March 30 2013 or Q2 2013 with revenue of $43.6 billion and net profit of $9.5 billion after selling 37.4 million iPhones and 19.5 million iPads. The company also sold 4 million Macs.International sales contributed 66% of the revenue. Apple's enormous cash pile increased to $145 billion. Looks like iPhone sales are slowing down in anticipation of the newer model. Apple sold 47.8 million iPhones in previous quarter in comparison. Also seems like the iPad mini has caused a small dent in Apple's profit margins. The  iPad sales numbers are interesting though with sales falling from 22.9 million in previous quarter to 19.5 million. It is worth mentioning that the Jan-March quarter is generally a weaker quarter for most companies after a very busy holiday quarter. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO did confirm that new products are coming  which is very obvious  -  “Our teams are hard at work on some amazing new hardware, software, and services and we are very excited about the products in our pipeline.” iTunes downloads and purchases seem to be experiencing great growth with over $4.1 billion in revenue in this quarter. ...

Apple’s Tim Cook teases new product categories in earnings call

0
0
Apple revealed its second quarter results just a while back and during its investor call, CEO Tim Cook has teased the coming of exciting new product categories. Cook suggested that the company was working on exciting new products to be announced by fall. "We've got a lot more surprises in the works," Cook said. While we expect Apple to announce new and updated versions of existing product categories, Cupertino has long been rumored to be working on revolutionizing the smart watch and television segments. One of those surprises could hence be a watch running a scaled down version of iOS. The company reported profits of $9.5 billion on revenues of $43.6 billion. The next quarter too is expected to continue the fairly below average profits for the company. We expect Apple to reveal brand new versions and the new tangent it intends to work on towards the end of the year. Decline in Apple stock is something that Tim Cook seems to be particularly keeping an eye on so its not hard to imagine that the company is now focussing on creating even more innovative and path breaking products. What remains to be seen is the direction that Cook steers the ...
