Samsung says ChatOn service will continue, dismisses rumors

Earlier this week, a Korea Time report said that Samsung is planning to shut down its ChatOn messaging service. However, Samsung is denying the reports and calling them as rumors. "The recent rumors concerning ChatOn have been false, as ChatOn will continue to be offered to consumers worldwide. said Samsung in a statement with The Verge. ChatOn was first launched in 2011 and is currently being used in 120 countries. However, the service is facing tough competition from rivals like WhatsApp, Viber, Facebook Messenger and so on. The service last announced that it had 100 million users while WhatsApp already has more than 500 million users. The Korea Times report earlier this week said that Samsung has decided to shut down the ChatOn service in selected markets where it is not well received. Apple iOS 8 adoption hits 60%

Apple has revealed that iOS 8 now runs on a majority of devices registered with the App Store. The iOS 8 operating system now runs on 60% of iPhone and iPads as of November 24. In comparison iOS 7 is installed on 35% of devices which is down form 40% over the same period. While in case of prior iOS versions like iOS 6 is only present on 5 percent of devices. The iOS 8 adoption has been slower that the iOS 7 however it is steadily multiplying especially with the upcoming holiday season. Apple revealed in September that 46% of devices had adopted to iOS 8 merely six days after its launch. Meizu, Canonical sign strategic agreement, Ubuntu-powered Meizu MX smartphone coming in Q1 2015?

Chinese phone maker Meizu has signed a strategic agreement with Canonical, the company confirmed on their Facebook page. The reason for the deal signed by Canonical CEO Jane Silber on November 25 at Meizu’s HQ in Zhuhai, China is not know yet. According to Chinese website MyDrivers, Meizu said that Ubuntu-powered Meizu MX series smartphone would be released in Q1 2015 in China and Europe. According to OMG! Ubuntu! The deal signed encompasses, Local (China, Hong Kong) sale of handsets, handled by Meizu, and on a Chinese carrier International sale of handsets in Europe and the US, handled by Canonical and sold SIM-free, exclusively online These are not completely accurate, says the website. HTC Desire 620 photo and specifications leaked

Specifications and leak of the HTC Desire 620 have been leaked by a Bulgarian website - Nixanbal. The phone which will be a successor to HTC Desire 610 has appeared as a full hands on report on the website. The design of the phone almost resembles HTC's Desire series with removable plastic back and dual front-facing speakers. According to the specification list leaked by Nixanbal, the upcoming HTC Desire 620 features a 5-inch 720p HD display. Under the hood is a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core processor, paired with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of on-board storage and microSD card slot. It will have 8MP rear and 5MP front camera, 2100mAh battery and run on Android 4.4 KitKat along with HTC's Sense 6 UI. Giving insights about the price, the report states that HTC is planning to launch the Desire 620 in January  in Europe with a price tag of $32o. The leak follows the recent spotting of the device's alleged specs via an FCC filing. LG makes some leadership changes, hires new mobile executive

LG has announced the appointment of Juno Cho as the new President and CEO of the LG Mobile Communication division as it restructures some of its other businesses. He will replace  Jong-seok Park who is the current mobile executive. The previous head of mobile Jong-seok Park will now be the Chief Technology Advisor. LG said that Cho served as LG’s mobile business strategy and sales and marketing for North America for 7 years until moving into his current position in 2007. Bong-suk Kwon, head of the Synergy Division of LG Corp., will be promoted to Executive Vice President and CEO of the LG Home Entertainment Company. LG said it will merge of its Home Appliance and Air Conditioning & Energy Solution business units to create a consolidated LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. LG shuffled about a dozen other executives throughout its top ranks. The company has also commenced a group-wide realignment of affiliates LG Display, LG InnoTek and LG Chem.

Jolla Tablet announces three stretch goals including 3.5G data

Jolla has now stretched three new goals for its tablet project. The company has said that it will add the option for Jolla Tablet owners in Europe to upgrade their device to a 3.5G HSDPA for $30 if the campaign hits $2.5 million. If the company hits $1.5 million, the Android-compatible Sailfish OS tablet will get MicroSDHC support, allowing it to take memory cards of up to 128GB in size. If it hits $1.75 million, it will gain the ability to view and run two apps simultaneously, split-screen-style. And if $2.5 million is pledged, it will gain 3.5G cellular connectivity. Jolla will then look to make the cellular-connected version available in other markets later. Jolla announced the tablet earlier this month that has 7.89-inch (2048 × 1536 pixels) display at 330 ppi, powered by a 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom processor and runs on Jolla Sailfish OS 2.0. Samsung Galaxy A7 pays a visit to FCC

Samsung Galaxy A7, the third smartphone from the A series has just landed at FCC. The specifications of the phone which has a model number (SM-A700) have been leaked earlier. According to the FCC listing, the Galaxy A7 will sport a 5.2-inch screen with 1920x1080 pixel resolution. It will be powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 processor and have 2 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of internal memory. Other features include 12 MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. Running on Android 4.4 KitKat, the A7 will support Bluetooth, WiFi and 4G LTE. All the phones in the A series support LTE connectivity. The Galaxy A7 had appeared in GFX benchmark last month. It is said to be the costliest of the three as it will be priced between $450-$500, as per previous report. Also, it is touted that the Galaxy A7 will be sold in selected countries as the device might give a tough competition to its recently launched Galaxy Alpha thereby eating its sales. OnePlus One available to order without an invite for a limited period

OnePlus is now offering the OnePlus One without an invite. There is no Pre-order time limit or queue. Even though the OnePlus One invite system still exists, the company introduced pre-order system in October for few hours and the second pre-order event was held on November 17th. If you live in any of the launch countries, you can order the 16GB Silk White version or the 64GB Sandstone Black version for $299 and $349, respectively. This offer is available only for limited period or till stocks last, probably till the weekend. OnePlus promises to ship all the orders by December 25th. Sadly this is not available Indian users, since India requires a special invite to purchase the smartphone from Amazon starting from December 2nd. We will know the pricing for India on the launch day. Apple has given its Watch website a major overhaul with new information and photos. The Apple Watch website has listed some of the new and important features of the Apple Watch. The website now has detailed descriptions of various features and functions of the watch across the separate pages labeled as ‘Timekeeping,’ ‘New Ways to Connect,’  ‘Health & Fitness’ and so on. The new Timekeeping page reveals more about some of the watch faces that are included with the Apple Watch, including details about Complications. This is a specialized function on a watch face like moon phases, sunrise and sunset. The watch face allows the user to adjust the amount of detail from ‘light to rich.’It displays four examples of customization for the watch face. Apple notes that different watch faces will allow you to toggle between colors with various levels of time including “minutes, seconds, and milliseconds.” In case of the New Ways to connect section the page shows different ways in which the Watch opens up new ways to keep in touch with the people on a user’s contact list. Indian tablet market soars by 10%, almost 1 million units shipped in Q3, 2014: Report

The tablet market in India has reported a strong quarter-on-quarter growth of 10%, according to a latest report from IDC. A total of 0.94 million tablets were shipped in the Q3, 2014 as compared to 0.86 million at a 9 per cent growth over the Q2, 2014. “The initial phase of impulsive buying seems to have faded, as the consumers are more aware of the use case of tablets now. Therefore the current size of the market looks more realistic and stable,” said Tanvi Mann, Market Analyst, IDC  India. The research firm stated that the tablet demand in this quarter was fuelled by festive buying and strengthening commercial demand. Android continued to be the leader in the Indian tablet market with more than 90% market share in Q3 2014. The OS from Google is further expected to dominate the market as well while Microsoft's Windows based tablets that are priced under $200 are expected to accelerate the adoption rate, albeit from a low base, added the report. Giving insights about vendor wise tablet sales, the report revealed that Samsung maintained the top spot with 22.2% of market share followed by Micromax at 10.9% market share. OnePlus One to get own software builds after Cyanogen goes exclusive with Micromax in India

Cyanogen Inc. recently announced an exclusive partnership with Micromax in India to build Cyanogen OS for Yu branded devices launching in December. It also said that Cyanogen OS will not support any other devices shipping in India with future updates including Lollipop. OnePlus has now come forward to announce that it will offer own builds for the OnePlus One smartphones in India and the first community build will be available starting December, with the final build ready by February 2015.
