Microsoft has started phasing out the Nokia branding. In the latest move, the software and tech giant is redirecting the visitors of Nokia.com UK site to its own mobile website. Users of the Nokia UK website are being informed that, 'Nokia devices and services have moved to a new website". The company is also urging them to "step inside our new home." At present, the company is redirecting the visitors to its own site only for the Nokia UK website, but it might soon apply the same to other Nokia websites in the world. Microsoft's Mobile Devices site now features larger images and pages focused on phones and tablets, accessories, apps, and support. The latest move comes from Microsoft as it is trying to shed Nokia and Windows Phone branding from its products. Earlier this month, a leaked internal document from the company revealed the same. Elephone G5, a $120 OnePlus One clone now on sale

Elephone has turned out to be a Chinese OEM worth looking out for. The company dished out a handful original design phones, before taking the clone route. Out of the various clones that we've seen in the past, those that stand out more often than not are clones of the OnePlus One. The OnePlus One, as you would know by know, is the only device from the less-than-a-year old maker. Despite facing heavy criticism, people around the world have flocked OnePlus for the device. One reason for this interest is the specs sheet; the OnePlus One -- or OPO as it is informally known as -- comes with a top-notch specs set, rivaling flagships that often cost twice as much. Second reason would be the price; the One sells for a starting price of just US$299. However, the Elephone G5 does neither of that, and comes with: 5.5-inch 1280 x 720p display 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor 1GB RAM 8GB on-board ROM 13 mega-pixel rear camera 5 mega-pixel front camera 3020mAh battery Android v4.4 KitKat MUST SEE: OnePlus One review So as you can see from the set above, there isn't much that's going to intimidate the original thing. The only aspect about the G5 that might lure in buyers is the price ...

Yahoo has made its first Indian acquisition by buying Bookpad for Rs 50 crores. The one year old Bangalore based start-up specializes in hosting cloud based documents. It provides end-to-end document handling technology for cloud. As a result of the acquisition, Bookpad team will join Yahoo's team in the US. Founded by Niketh Sabbineni, Aditya Bandi and Ashwik Reddy, the start-up is best known for its Docspad product which enables easy viewing and editing content online. Bookpad’s Docspad is different from Google docs as it integrates with several other applications (via API). It works across devices, and does not require downloading of plug-ins or desktop software. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3s_SPeMmeg The talks about the acquisition initiated in January this year. This is not the first time that a US based tech company has acquired an Indian based start-up. In January this year, Facebook acquired another Bangalore startup Little Eye Labs, which makes a testing and analytics tool for Android developers to improve app performance. Meizu MX4 likely to get a smaller MX4 Mini sibling

It's only been 20 days since the official unveiling of the Meizu MX4, but the smartphone from the Far East is getting more footage than the makers would've imagined. Not long back, Meizu said that they were successful in getting a massive 7.7 million pre-orders; given that the company is only starting to step out of its home country of China, these are big numbers. Even before the launch of the MX4, we'd been hearing about four different variants that the MX4 could have. While there's no confirmation on any of those yet, details about a higher-spec'd MX4 Pro, and a smaller, cheaper MX4 Mini have started to surface. While the MX4 Pro is expected to rock the latest-gen Exynos SoC, the MX4 Mini on the other hand is said to make do with the MediaTek MT6592 that we've seen on loads of phones this year. Given that the original MX4 costs only about 1,799 Yuan (US$293) in China, the smaller, less powerful MX4 Mini should cost anywhere between US$220-US$250. Sources from China report that the MX4 Mini could get a pricing of as low as 1,499 Yuan, roughly equal to US$244. Source | Via

Reports and leaks about Google's HTC made Nexus 9 tablet were looming the online world for a long time now. Today, a Wall Street Journal report is stating that Google has indeed selected HTC to make its upcoming 9 inch Nexus tablet. The report states that HTC engineers have been flying to the Googleplex in Mountain View in recent months to work on the project. Nexus 9 tablet will mark a revival of the Google-HTC partnership that produced the original Nexus One device. Google's decision to pick HTC reflects its long-term strategy of building a broad base of partners from device to device to prevent any one manufacturer from gaining a monopoly, the report said. Previous rumors and reports had suggested that the Nexus 9 will likely sport a 8.9″ (2048 × 1440 pixels) screen, NVIDIA Tegra K1 64-bit processor, 2GB RAM, 16/32GB internal storage, 8MP rear camera with Sony sensor, 3MP front facing camera, Stereo front-facing speakers and aluminium build. Some rumors that said it will come with 5GB RAM turned out to be fake. It will be 7.9mm thick and weigh 418 grams. It is expected to come in WiFi and LTE variants. Earlier this month, Nvidia accidentally confirmed the Nexus 9 tablet in a legal document. The ...

Xiaomi announces Bluetooth game controller

Chinese hardware vendor Xiaomi has launched a new Bluetooth game controller. Xiaomi has clearly put more thought into the functionality of the device than the name; it's simply called Xiaomi Bluetooth game controller. As Xiaomi often does, there's a special price for the first lot of buyers -- 300 in number in this case -- of just 1 Yuan, or US$0.16. Tech in Asia says it's designed to work with Xiaomi's Mi Pad and Mi TV, but we have a strong feeling it will work with a lot more devices than just those two. The game controller will be available for sale starting 25th September in China. Going through pictures of the device gives you a feeling of looking at morphed pictures of an Xbox controller. Xiaomi is known for selling its products at ridiculously low prices, or as Mario Puzo would say, Xiaomi often 'makes an offer you can't refuse'. Well, with just 3 days to go before it goes on sale, we can wait to decide for ourselves about how good the offer it would be! Source

Now, a $81 Windows tablet from China

Manufacturers worldwide have been striving to push VFM to its extreme, but few have been as successful as those from China. If you've been following the tech scene in China, you'd know about this wily maker that makes tablets and calls itself Pipo. That very maker has launched a device called the Work W4. It comes with a decent specs set, that includes an 8-inch display of 1280 x 800 pixels, 1GB RAM, a quad-core Intel processor and 16GB of on-board storage. That might not make for the most powerful tablet on the planet, but the fact that the Work W4 comes with a meagre 499 Yuan -- US$499 -- price tag says a lot. It's a very, very affordable tablet that surprisingly doesn't run Android. Instead, it does a better job at hardware integration with the Windows operating system. The device is a China-only as you would expect, but given the rising popularity of devices like this one, you can expect resellers in the country to start shipping the Work W4 at 20-30% more with worldwide shipping. It is worth noting that a device like this is possible only because of Microsoft's relax rules on Windows copy licensing, which now allows makers producing ...

Huawei Honor Play 4 with 64-bit Snapdragon 410 launched for $130

China's Huawei today launched the Honor Play 4 in its home country. The device comes with a very entry-level price of 799 Yuan (US$130 approx.), but features a 64-bit processor that's often seen in higher-end devices. The device features a 1280 x 720p resolution on a 5-inch panel as you would expect from a mid-ranger. Under the hood lies the star of the show, which in this case is the 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 SoC that is build on the 64-bit architecture. Thanks to the price tag that is meant to be within reach, the Snapdragon 410 only gets coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, with the latter being of expandable nature. Specifications 5-inch 1280 x 720p display 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 SoC, 64-bit 1GB RAM 8GB storage, expandable via microSD 8MP rear camera 2MP front camera 4G LTE NFC 2000mAh battery Another impressive feature for a $130 device is 4G LTE, and NFC. It does look like what we called 'flagship' in 2013 will be mid-range much before the end of this year, especially when you consider the two features we just talked about. All in all, the device looks like quite a bargain for the price, barring the battery that does seem below average capacity. Source 1, 2

Apple iOS 8 Review

Apple started seeding the much awaited upgrade for its mobile operating system about 4 days back. The newest version brings the material design to the OS – after a visual overhaul of iOS 7. We have managed to spend some quality time with the iOS 8 and here’s what we think about it. Apple’s latest mobile operating system is an attempt to catch up with the Android eco-system. The company has decided to make changes under the hood and doesn't focus too much on adding new features. Back at its drawing board, the Cupertino giant seems have realised the importance of opening its OS for third-party applications and extensions - of course contradicting the company’s traditional approach from time With the new iOS operating system, developer community can rejoice as they now have access to the core capabilities of the platform. Apple has opened more than 4,000 APIs to developers, which they can use to integrate applications with Notification Center, Sharing and Action menus, Keyboard and Photos among other things. And, the TouchID can soon be used in many ways other than unlocking your iPhone, as the company is expected to open it in the coming days. For starters, the iOS 8 ...
