Launched way back in January after a lukewarm reception for the Waterloo company's new Blackberry 10 operating system, the Q10's main aim is to bring the QWERTY keyboard that the company helped popularize, back in vogue, in a touchscreen dominated world. The device was launched after the full touch flagship, the Blackberry Z10, signaling the company's move to a complete touch experience at its fore, but to keep the fans happy, the Q10 had to release eventually. And yes, it has finally landed in India, with a hefty price tag of Rs. 44,999. It marched into our labs the same day, and here are our first impressions of the device. The first thing you'll notice when you take the Blackberry Q10 into your hands is how small and compact it is. The Q10 nicely fits into your palm and the splendidly rounded device is reminiscent of the legacy Blackberry carried in its various offerings. Immediate eye grabber is the qwerty keyboard of course, with nicely beveled keys styled very similar to the Bold 9900, with all the functions you would expect out of it. Being a touchscreen user since 2009, the qwerty keyboard was never missed, even after occasional flirting with devices ...

Jetpack Joyride finally arrives on Windows Phone 8

Months and years after making its presence felt on other platforms, including Windows 8, the Halfbrick hit game "Jetpack Joyride" has finally landed on the Windows Phone 8 store. It is incredibly frustrating that the Windows Phone 8 version took nearly 8 months after launching on Windows 8, and we thought Windows Phone 8 shared code with its parent. But anyways, the game is finally here and it's free. The "endless runner + Helicopter" style gameplay is incredibly addictive and the power ups are worth playing for. Wading through various obstacles in a scientific lab of sorts, you stumble across minions while dodging electric fences and targeted missiles. Occasionally the player receives power ups which are oblivious to obstacles giving one more chance at human error. The casino slot machine after ever trial lets you chance upon various power ups that may even provide another chance of life. Exciting game nevertheless. If you have never tried this game on you Android or iOS phone, this might be the chance to check it out. Grab the game here, available for download from the Windows Phone store.

Investment research firm, Canaccord Genuity, has surveyed retail stores of all the four major US carriers and has come to the conclusion that Samsung's trio of Galaxy S3, S4 and the Note II outsold Apple's handset in May.  However, the report suggests that AT& T still manages to sell more iPhone with the Galaxy S4 coming in a close second. ComScore's 4th June report suggests that Apple maintained a smartphone marketshare of 39.2% in the US with Samsung clocking about 22% in the first quarter. The report goes on to point out that Samsung times the launch of its handset between iPhone launch events and this has owed to its significant marketshare. Apple's dominance in the smartphone segment came from launching high value products and not from commoditization. Rumors suggest that the next generation iPhone to be introduced later this year will be a big enough leap to bring back Apple straight to the top of the game. Growth opportunities for smartphones are shifting base to higher volume, lower margins markets like India and China. Rumors that suggest Apple might introduce  a lower cost handset further make us believe that Apple too recognizes this and is taking proactive measures to capture this ...
