The much anticipated, previously announced IUNI U3 has finally gone on sale in its homeland of China. If you aren't aware yet, here's what the IUNI U3 is all about -- designed to be a flagship killer in its own way, the U3 comes with a price tag of just 1999 Yuan in China, that translates to a little over US$320. That makes the device a very affordable high-end phone, because some of the specs that it carries are seen only in phones that cost more than double the amount. Specifications 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440p display 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU 3GB RAM 32GB on-board storage 13 mega-pixel rear camera with OIS 4 mega-pixel UltraPixel front camera 3000mAh battery Android v4.4.4 KitKat LTE, dual SIM So as you can see from the specs set, the U3 is on par with the most powerful devices on the planet, but costs only a fraction. IUNI is a sub-brand of well-known OEM from China, Gionee. The U2 that came before the U3 did not have an English language ROM, but the U3 is all set to become the first IUNI phone to support the English language. If you are looking to get the phone from a reseller, be prepared to pay 20-30% more, though. Via

Xiaomi Mi 2, Mi 2S get Android v4.4 KitKat updates via MIUI 6

After releasing the public beta of the newest iteration of their MIUI ROM for the Mi 4 and the Mi 3, Xiaomi have now made it available for two of its older-gen phones, the Mi 2 and the Mi 2S. Both devices have been in the market for quite some time now, and it is good to see a Chinese company provide support despite that. This might have put pressure on OPPO too, who had been reluctant to announce Android KitKat based firmware for the OPPO Find 5, but finally (and thankfully, for users of the device) decided otherwise a couple of days back. Interestingly, the Xiaomi Mi 2 and the Mi 2S use the same ROM files, which means the dev team don't have to track bugs and errors separately. This is despite the phones having separate processors -- the Mi 2S runs on the Snapdragon 600, whereas the Mi 2 runs the Snapdragon S4 Pro (Qualcomm APQ8064). Other Xiaomi devices are expected to get the update this year as well, including the affordable Redmi aka Hongmi series. You can find more info on the roadmap here. We do have an Mi 2S collecting dust, and MIUI 6 might just be the reason why ...

HTC's tryst with unique rear-camera tech (read: UltraPixel, Duo Camera) might soon come to end with the latest announcement that's due in some days. 'HTC Eye' is what the new device shall call itself. Eye... hmmm, there's certainly going to be emphasis on imaging tech on the device, something that the invitation flyer revealed too, a couple of days back. The event for which the invites were sent out earlier this week is scheduled to take place 8th October in New York City, which is where we expect the HTC Eye to finally see light of day. The smartphone is expected to feature an all-new screen size (for HTC) of 5.2 inches. It wouldn't take too much to guess what it'll pack inside it's body -- a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU and an Adreno 330 GPU, akin to most flagship smartphones trending of late. Besides the aforementioned phone, HTC is also expected to exhibit it's first action (?) camera. It's being said that it'll take on none other than the GoPro action camera series with a 16 megapixel sensor, wide-angle lens and a tube design. Additionally, the device would be made nifty with a couple of smart additions including WiFi and Bluetooth, ...

The Android One launch event, presided by Sundar Pichai, is underway in India at the moment. One of the key announcements of this new program from Google, is the addition of 9 new OEM partners and, unsurprisingly, Qualcomm chipset support. This comes after the initial announcement at Google IO, of four partners, Karbonn, Micromax and Spice being the OEMs and Mediatek chipset support, mainly targeted at the Indian market, but it seems like Android One will take the global route with the new OEMs. The list of 9 new OEMs includes some biggies like HTC and Lenovo, with other smaller Indian companies like Xolo, Lava and Intex, along with Panasonic, Alcatel, ASUS and Acer. The addition of Qualcomm as a chip supplier breaks the brief monopoly that MediaTek had over the program. As mentioned earlier, this brings Android One to more markets than just India, and even the competition is all set to get even more intense here in the local market. Lenovo is the only company from the top 5 manufacturers to be present in the list of Android One partners, with Samsung and LG notably missing. It's also interesting to see that ZTE, Huawei or other popular Chinese manufacturers ...
