Xiaomi, and now OPPO are showing the very intent to make their presence felt. While OPPO is already active in a handful out markets outside of China including the EU and India, Australian shores are yet to be conquered by the prolific phone maker from the far east. According to Mac World, OPPO will be marking their foray in Australia as early as next month. The event invite reportedly reads: Mark your diaries to be among the first to hear all the news from one of the leading mobile phone brands across APAC as they begin their Australian journey, and get hands on with the products for the first time locally. OPPO is clearly looking to grab a share in the Australian market before any of its counterparts head there. It isn't yet clear what smartphones OPPO will launch in Australia straight away, but it wouldn't be surprising to see them go all-guns blazing with the top-tier OPPO Find 7 that we also reviewed. Google announces support for Rockchip SoCs for modular Project Ara

Not too long back, the concept of a phone that you could upgrade and configure based on your whims and fantasies only looked like a sci-fi movie scene. However, thanks to the tremendous technological advancements that we've seen in the recent years, the modular phone idea is on the verge of being reality. What's more, it is none other than Google that's working on a project such as this one -- Project Ara -- so you can rest assured it's not going to be restricted due to lack of budget or resources. In fact, a few early prototypes are already going around, hinting at what could be the future, very soon. These prototypes feature chipsets from Texas Instruments (OMAP 4460 to be precise). However, Google just announced that Project Ara modules will be compatible with SoCs from China based fabricator Rockchip. Rockchip is best known for making high-performance SoCs at a very affordable cost. However, the company has usually dealt in TV boxes and Android tablets, so something like the Project Ara will be a completely new platform for the company. Source | Via

Flipkart has just sent us an invite for a tablet launch in partnership with Intel. The invite reads What's in red, grey, pearl white and blue? It will be powered by an Intel processor. It is clear that it's going to be a tablet, looking from the invite. It has an earpiece on the top, so it is likely to come with voice calling capabilities. Since it is is more wider than normal 7-inch tablets, it could have a screen that is 8-inches or more. Flipkart launched Digiflip Pro XT 712, its first tablet under its Digiflip brand back in June. It's a decent tablet compared to other tablets in the price range. Large-screen tablets with a screen size of over 8-inch will not be comfortable for voice calling, since it might be comfortable to hold. Let us see what Flipkart has to offer next week. The teaser doesn't reveal the specifications of the tablet. Flipkart asks us to wait till the launch day, August 27th for a better clue. We will be there at the event to bring you more details about the tablet on launch day.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 has been making its rounds for quite some time in the rumorland, but today, we find the device already floating in the Malaysian market. One of the countries authorized retailer – SenHeng has listed the phablet as available. It has to be noted that the company hasn’t officially announced the Mega 2 yet, so the listing might actually be a blunder on the retailer’s part. We confirmed the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 with our exclusive coverage and accordingly, the Mega 2 comes with 6-inch HD display, Exynos processor with quad-core 1.5GHz CPU and Mali 400 GPU. The phablet features 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory with microSD card support and an 8 megapixel rear camera. Upcoming Sony smartwatch and tablet teased ahead of IFA

Sony has a habit of hinting at upcoming products through teasers hidden away in event invites. Taking a look at the invitation for its IFA event, it looks like the Japanese company might have a brand new smartwatch and perhaps even a tablet lined up for the event. There's been a lot of speculation around the event and expected announcements include an updated flagship, a new smart lens and the aforementioned smartwatch.  Featuring rounded corners and a design that seems to lie between the 7-8 inch territory, the device appears to be the rumored Sony Z3 Tablet Compact. There's not much to go in terms of specifications but given the pool setting and historical precedence, the tablet should be waterproof at a minimum and will likely pack high end specifications. Next up is the smartwatch. Packing a design that is more like the first generation Galaxy Gear than Sony's own Smartwatch2, the wearable is not expected to run Android Wear which is definitely a dampner. Sony has long insisted that it would continue using it's own platform for wearables while also introducing Android Wear based products over time. With just under 10 days left for IFA, we'll soon find out what Sony and others ...

Did China Telecom just leak the iPhone 6?

$

Here's another if there haven't been enough leaks and rumours around the iPhone 6! According to reports from China based outlets, the iPhone 6 might just have been leaked by China Telecom. The carrier posted an image that claims, and looks like, one from the series of flyers that the iPhone 6 will be getting. Interestingly, the device design we see in the render does agree quite a lot with the leaked renders and photos we've been treated to in the past. It isn't very common for a network carrier to post an image like this one, which makes us take this with a pinch of salt. The iPhone 6, as you might know, is expected to be unveiled next month on the 9th. Along with a 4.7-inch iPhone, Apple is also expected to out a 5.5-inch version to mark entry into a phablet series of smart devices. Looking at the renders, we get an impression that the iPhone 6 will have a colour scheme that's identical to the existing iPhones. Thankfully we don't have to wait too much to know it all! Via

Gionee teases its 5mm phone yet again; Launch soon?

$

We've talked about the uber-thin Gionee phone that's been in the works in the past. According to what we're hearing, this phone will measure an insane 5mm thick ('thin' perhaps), to claim the title of the world's thinnest Android smartphone. That title is currently held by another Gionee phone, the Elife S5.5, which true to its name measures 5.5mm thick. The Elife S5.5 comes with an impressive specs set for the thin body it has, thereby dismissing claims that thin smartphones can't have an able-enough specs set. Gionee has been circulating this interesting-looking teaser for this new phone. Given that it received network certification a while back, we believe this teaser could hint at a launch that is around the corner. Gionee has gone on to become a popular smartphone manufacturer not only in China, but in India as well, where its budget offerings have done very well. Gionee largely follows the offline sales channel, which isn't taken by a lot of other Chinese makers. We wonder what the company will do with the 5mm phone they have on the roadmap! Via
