Google has announced an update for the Gmail app for Android, iPhone and iPad that bring new Inbox with tabs and categories. Incoming mails are classified into categories such as Promotions, Social and Updates. You can choose to use categories as inbox tabs, and as labels. This would let you view mails that are important to you and read messages of a similar type. You can use both the Inbox categories and labs separately.

Samsung, with a mad obsession with large screened devices, a market they themselves help pioneer, launched two huge handsets fit for their name, namely the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, with the respective screen sizes appended to their name. We found them quite huge, unsurprisingly, and we wanted to see how the trend has been with the Samsung's Galaxy family of Android devices with respect to growing screen sizes. MediaTek, the well known chip manufacturer, famous for the low cost powerful SoCs, has launched another SoC, codenamed the MT8125 specifically aimed at tablets. The tablet market as we know is currently dominated by the smaller ones, that are of the mid range segment, driving volume for the overall market, according to IDC. At this crucial time, MediaTek seems to want to take advantage, by releasing its own solution for tablets after the success of its MT6589 Quad Core chips in various phones in the low-mid range. The Quad Core Cortex A7 processor will support frequencies upto 1.5 GHz and will be powered by the PowerVR Series5XT graphics.
The MT8125 chipset has in-built support for 3G HSPA+, 2G and WiFi, which are all compatible with existing board configurations in use by several manufacturers. Supporting upto 1920x1200 displays, the MT8215 SoC will be capable of 1080p video playback and recording with a 13 MP camera support, including an integrated ISP for the same.

Tata Sky Mobile app has been updated to version 3.0. This is a major update since its launch last year. This update brings WiFi remote that lets you control your Tata Sky+ HD box over WiFi. You can swipe to change channels and volume, change channels by tapping on your channel logo and more. You can also set shows for recording and set reminders through the app. The Tata Sky Mobile for iPhone and iPad got the update with these features last month.

In a move aimed at giving Apple greater supply chain balance, the company is expected to shift over a greater percentage of manufacturing to Pegatron. Historially, Foxconn has been responsible for the production of all iPhones and iPads. However starting 2011, Pegatron has been responsible for making a small segment of iPhones and has since graduated on to production of the iPad Mini.
The Wall Street Journal suggests that Pegatron will take on responsibilities for the manufacturing of a new low cost iPhone expected to be offered later this year. The gradual shift from Foxconn to Pegatron can be attributed to manufacturing glitches made by the former in the case of the iPhone 5. Additionally it is believed that Pegatron has been willing to cut down on its profit margins to gain Apple's business. Foxconn has been under scrutiny over a series of worker suicides and claims of poor wages. Pegatron is responsible for production of products from several competing brands like Microsoft, HP and Dell. The Taipei based company has significant ties with Apple as it was responsible for production of the first generation iBooks.

The Windows Phone desktop app for Windows Phone 8 devices has finally come out of the beta, after over six months in preview form. The app, which is used to manage files and sync media with your Windows Phone 8 device has been hardly a replacement for the excellent Zune solution for the earlier generation Windows Phone 7 devices. But with Windows Phone 8 adding the MTP protocol for file management, the Zune app has been useless, while the Windows Phone app, with its limited features, proved of little utility. Anyway, the app has now added more features and is now available for download, in case you are craving for a decent sync app for Windows Phone 8, and don't want to go down the explorer route.

Press image of the Huawei Ascend W2 has surfaced online. The phone appeared on a Chinese forum last year and specs of the phone appeared last month. The Huawei Ascend W1, the company's first Windows Phone 8 device leaked last October, which as unveiled at the CES 2013 earlier this year. It is yet to release in India, looks like the company would unveil its successor with high-end specs soon.
According to the earlier rumors the phone is expected to sport a 4.3-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) display, powered by a dual-core Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.5 and 1GB of RAM. It would come with a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and with 1080p full HD video recording, the usual connectivity features such as 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and a 2000 mAh battery (non-removable).
It is expected to come in various colors similar to the Ascend W1. No details about the internal or the external storage. Hope we can expect the phone at the CommunicAsia 2013 in Singapore next month.

WikimediaFoundation has launched Nearby feature for mobile web that shows Wikipedia articles near your location that would let you explore the nearby places and view images. The photo upload features was launched for mobile web back in March. You can log in using your Wikipedia credentials to upload photos. Now you can also take part in improving details about your nearby location by adding an image to the article if it's missing. You can notice the missing image with a camera icon next to the articles.
The experimental mode in the settings lets opt-in users access to experimental features when it's available. The Wikipedia Nearby is available for all from the mobile web. You can test out the Wikipedia Nearby from your mobile phone's browser by heading to m.wikipedia.org and selecting the Nearby option from left pane. This feature also works on desktops browsers too.

HTC has finally confirmed the rumors about the HTC One running stock Android. The company just announced on its official blog that a HTC One with Nexus User Experience will be going on sale soon in the US market first. They would continue to sell the developer version and unlocked version directly to users. The HTC One with stock Android will be going on sale on Google's Play store starting from June 26th but sadly only in the US. The handset has been priced at $599 which is lower than the price of the Galaxy S4 running stock Android which will also be going on sale on the same day for $649.
The phone will be running Android 4.2.2 and updates will come directly from Google and not HTC which is the main advantage of any Nexus device. Samsung has carved out a huge market for its Galaxy range of Android phones. LG Optimus L4 II (E440) and L4 II Dual (E445), new L Series II devices has been announced in Russia. LG unveiled the Optimus L Series II devices, the Optimus L3 II, the Optimus L5 II and the Optimus L7 II and their dual SIM variants earlier this February. These phones have 3.8-inch (320 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen IPS display, powered by a 1 GHz MediaTek MT6575 and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).

Credit Suisse has issued a note to clients stating that iPhone sales in India have shot up by close to 400 percent. Reported by the Economic Times, the note suggests that the EMI plans and other schemes initiated in India have had the desired effect resulting in quadrupled sales.
The note was based on figures obtained from checks done at retailers across the country as well as with distributor partners. Figures are expected to have touched as much as 400,000 units compared to previous estimates of 70,000-80,000 units a month. Rumors of a lower cost iPhone aimed at developing markets suggest that Apple might have been merely testing waters so far. The EMI scheme and full page advertisements in national dailies accompanied with buy back offers might just be the first step in many to gain a significant foothold in a market dominated primarily by Samsung. The iPhone has long been considered a status symbol but wasn't a high seller due to a very steep price point and India being an unlocked only market. HTC T6, the company's first phablet surfaced earlier this week. We did not hear anything about the specifications at the time. Thanks to @evleaks, now we have the specifications of the device even though these is no image of the device. According to the report by The Unlockr the phone is expected to come with a 5.9-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) full HD display, powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. It would run on the yet to be announced Android Key Lime Pie with enhanced HTC Sense UI with new BlinkFeed with more content, better customization and offline support. Google's Sundar Pichai introduced a Google edition of the HTC One at the ATD D11 conference yesterday which we'd reported on earlier. But the announcement was just the first of many interesting tid bits dropped by the Chief of Android and Chrome during his keynote session. While two top end phones by Samsung and HTC might signal the end of the Nexus device program, Pichai was quick to point out that, “The goal with Nexus was to push forward hardware as well. That will continue.”
This lends further credence to the rumors that the next generation Nexus device will be here soon and will presumably be manufactured by LG again. Sundar addressed concerns and claimed that while hardware partners were completely open to customizing the operating system as they pleased, the Android Team is aiming to provide a consistent user experience. Sony has announced that they would start rolling out the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) update for the Xperia S, Xperia SL and Xperia acro S starting from today as they announced last month. The Sony Xperia P, Xperia go and the Xperia E dual got the Jelly Bean update last month. Sony confirmed Jelly Bean update for range of 2012 Xperia devices back in October.

HTC has been trying to stem its declining sales and has seemingly hit a home run with its latest handset, the One. Banking on its popularity and its portfolio for the rest of the year, the company has major expansion plans in India. In a report issues by PTI, HTC's country head Faisal Siddiqui revealed that the company aims to double their market share in India.
The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer currently has a 6% share of the smartphone market in India. By adding two additional national distributors, HTC India has expanded its distribution channel greatly . The company also plans to introduce an EMI scheme for its high priced flagship device that was launched in India at the Rs. 42,990 mark.
