Leaked: Mini variant of the Lenovo K920 Vibe Z2 Pro

Lenovo's K920, a Quad HD smartphone with flagship-level specs, went official about two months back after a prolonged stint with the rumour mills. According to reports, the Chinese manufacturer might be working on another variant of this powerhouse of a phone. It is being said that Lenovo are working on a mini version of the device, which will possibly be called 'K920 Vibe Z2 Pro Mini'. Of course, this is only speculation, and there's no word on this from Lenovo yet. What is funny though, is the fact that this rumoured mini version of the phone will come with a massive 5.5-inch display, which is far from any 'mini' phone we've seen in the past. Specifications-wise the device will have a set nearly identical to the elder brother, in the Snapdragon 801 SoC, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage. Screen resolution is expected to go down to 1920 x 1080p from the QHD resolution of the Vibe Z2 Pro, which does make sense if Lenovo want to sell it for cheaper. Speaking of price, the Vibe Z2 Pro mini is being touted as a sub $350 phone, so don't be surprised if you see this launch for a price tag ...

Verizon’s LG G Pad 8.3 finally gets Android 4.4 KitKat

0

Slowly but surely, a lot of mid-range Android devices are getting the crucial v4.4 KitKat update. Crucial, because the KitKat update on these mid-range devices is much more required than by the higher-end ones, which don't gain as much from the update. The LG G Pad 8.3 Android tablet received the update earlier today. Although it took quite a long time coming, it is finally here, giving users of the device some much needed respite. Besides the usual bug-fixes, the v4.4 KitKat update brings a few feature enhancements as well. Among these, the best known and perhaps the most awaited one is the inclusion of the LG Knock Code feature, which allows users to unlock their device in a variety of different ways (86,367 different ways, according to LG). As with any other Android update, the G Pad 8.3 update too be rolled out in phases to avoid server overload. So, if you haven't gotten an update notification yet, don't lose patience! Via

InFocus are known for their extensive list of hardware offerings, from smartphones to projectors. The Taiwan-based maker announced their entry into the flagship race sometime back in the form of a very affordable yet powerful smartphone. We're talking about the InFocus M810, a smartphone that InFocus announced a couple of days back. With a Snapdragon 801 SoC, the device falls in the league of high-end flagships such as the HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S5, etc. However, the price tag on the device is closer to an average mid-range phone, at just around $330. Specifications 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080p FHD display 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU 2GB RAM 16GB on-board storage, expandable via microSD 13 mega-pixel rear camera 5 mega-pixel front facing camera 2600mAh battery The device clearly packs a lot of tech into a small frame, just 6.99mm thick. To put that into perspective, the iPhone 5S measures 7.6mm thick! There's more of an Apple relation there; its Foxconn that make a lot of InFocus hardware including the M810 so you can rest assured it's going to be of great quality! Via

Microsoft files patent lawsuit against Samsung over Android royalties

Microsoft has sued Samsung in U.S. District Court, over patent licencing deal. The company claims that the South Korean giant has stopped making royalty payments on time last fall and is refusing to pay interest for the delay. "After becoming the leading player in the worldwide smartphone market, Samsung decided late last year to stop complying with its agreement with Microsoft" said Microsoft's David Howard, Microsoft Corporate Vice President and Deputy General Counsel in a blog post. Under a 2011 deal, Samsung pays Microsoft an undisclosed amount of royalty for each Android phone and tablet it sells. Microsoft claimed that Samsung is using Microsoft's April acquisition of Nokia's phone business as an excuse to stop complying with the contract. The software giant also claimed that Samsung is not willing to make the payments as it has become a leading player in smartphone market with high sale numbers. In a statement, Samsung said, "We will review the complaint in detail and determine appropriate measures in response". The lawsuit does not mention the exact amount Samsung owes to Microsoft. Patent disputes have become an inseparable part of the smartphone ecosystem. Apple and Samsung lawsuit is one of the most high profile smartphone patent cases.

Cell Phone Unlocking now legal in the US, President Obama signs bill

0
0
The US President Barack Obama has signed the Unlocking Consumer Choice and Wireless Competition Act into law. This essentially means that it is now legal to unlock a cell phone in the United States. Previously, unlocking your phone was considered as a violation of federal copyright law, although it was rarely enforced. The US made carrier unlocking illegal in January 2013. The Digital Millenium Copyright Act is currently the reason that unlocking cell phones is illegal. Technically, unlocking your phone to use on other carriers without permission constitutes "circumventing technological measures" that protect software copyrights. However, every three years, the Library of Congress can make specific exemptions to this law. In other words, they can decide that it's legal to unlock your smartphone, even if the original law said it's not. Cell phone unlocking is particularly beneficial for customers who are frequent travelers and  wish to take their cell phones with them to another carrier to other countries and prefer to use the services of a local network instead of paying a premium for roaming charges. Though the law makes unlocking legal, it does not direct wireless carriers to provide unlock codes without a valid reason. Consumers who are still under a previously-signed service contract with their ...

LG's G Watch is amongst the first Android Wear running devices out there and has achieved moderate success amongst the enthusiast circles. With early adoption comes a bit of a risk though and this was witnessed by an increasing number of users in the form of corrosion buildup on the POGO pins located at the back of the watch. LG is now pushing out a software update to fix this hardware issue.  OTA update build number KMV78Y is now heading out to users and is supposed to fix the corrosion build up spotted on the exposed charging POGO pins placed at the rear of the watch. While LG did not officially comment on the update, a support representatives comment can be seen below. LG TV, Monitors, AV and IT Support Recently it has come to our attention that a small number of G Watch devices have been reported to have developed discoloration and residue buildup on the terminal pins located on the back. While completely safe and unlikely to affect charging, LG will be rolling out a maintenance release over the next few days that will disable the current when the G Watch is not in the charging dock. The maintenance release will ...

Vine has improved the video recording quality on its Android mobile app in the latest update. Prior to this update, video recording quality on the app was quiet poor. Unfortunately, the popular video sharing service from Twitter has not announced how the video quality has improved exactly. Meaning it is not clear if the resolution, post processing or any other feature has received an update. In addition, the app now gets an enhanced notification option. The Settings menu now has more options to display, such as Likes, Comments, Re-vines, Mentions, Follows and more. Last month Vine was updated with Loop Counts that lets user know how many times their 6 second video has been viewed. Prior to this both the Android and iOS app also received support for Direct messaging in April. It is not known whether the latest update will land on iOS as well. via: Android Police

Photos of an alleged iPad Air 2 rear shell have leaked online. The images show a rear shell with a redesigned speaker grill and a relocated rear microphone next to the camera. Some photos have been published to the Chinese social networking site Weibo, which are believed to be the rear shell casing for the next-generation iPad Air.  As per the images, it looks like Apple has changed the size and position of the speakers. The speaker grille now features one row of large holes instead of two rows of tiny holes, and it looks like the rear mic has been relocated. It also shows recessed volume control buttons and a new microphone next to the camera lens. The Apple iPad Air 2 is expected to include the Touch ID fingerprint scanner, embedded in the home button. In addition, the new iPad Air could also feature a faster A8 processor, which is expected to improve the tablet’s performance and battery life. Despite a handful of changes, the overall design does bear a striking resemblance to the current design of the iPad. The latest photo leak comes months after the Front panels of the iPad Air 2 were leaked in April this year. via: Apple Insider

It was said to come with aluminium build on the sides, now new images of the white variant of the Samsung Galaxy Alpha has surfaced on a weibo, showing off the phone's brushed metal frame on the sides of the phone. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 launch scheduled for 3rd September ahead of IFA in Berlin

Like every year, Samsung will announce the next generation of the Galaxy Note 4 later this year. Following tradition, it was expected that the Korean giant would launch it at IFA and right on cue, Samsung has started sending out invitations for its Galaxy Note 4 launch event ahead of IFA in Berlin. There's been a lot of speculation around the capabilities of the next generation Note phablet and once again, it is expected to ship in both Qualcomm and Exynos variants depending on the market. The screen might see another bump up in size but most rumors still maintain a 5.7" Super AMOLED screen is what you'll get. What has changed however is the resolution and you should expect to see a 2K panel here which should result in a nice bump in the pixel density. A retina sensor might also make the cut though its effectiveness in low lighting conditions would be questionable. Being a part of the Note series, the phablet will continue to have an active digitizer with a stylus thrown in for good measure. Rumors abound that the company is planning to use new types of materials in the handset and that it will also include a ...

Bioshock 1 headed to the iPhone and iPad later this year

0

Mobile gamers all around have a lot to look forward to later this year. 2K Games, the studio behind the hit franchise, BioShock, today announced that the first game in the franchise will be making its way over to the iOS platform. The company says that BioShock on the iPhone and iPad will be a premium game and hence will carry a price tag that will be anywhere from $10 to $30. The studio has managed to port the entire game without cutting corners on the essentials. Lighting, shadows have taken a hit and the textures are not as high resolution as on PC or consoles. As Engadget reports, fire effects in particular are poor to look at. Given the medium, the game loses the grandeur of the original and it really is best placed with a controller in hand. That said, you can still play the game using a controller on the iPad. While there is no word on pricing, we do know that the game will not run on older iOS devices. You'll need an iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, iPad 4 or the iPhone 5/5c or 5s to be able to play it. The game will also not include ...
