Gionee has started rolling Android 4.4 (KitKat) update for the Gionne Elife S5.5, the world's slimmest smartphone. Along with the Android 4.4's features such as wireless printing, support for emojis and more, this update also brings a new layout, update for Amigo Paper and Game Zone with a new UI, updated GioneeXender app and more.

The Android 4.4 update for the Gionne S5.5 is about 865 MB and is rolling out over-the-air (OTA). You can go to Settings, About phone, System updates and check for updates if you have not received update notification. The Gionne Elife E7 that was launched earlier this year, before the S5.5 is yet to get the KitKat update.
Shopping on Twitter might be a reality soon. The micro blogging site is testing a "Buy Now" button that will enable users to buy things directly from the platform.
Spotted first by Re/Code, the buttons were spotted only on mobile devices and users were not able to actually purchase the item from there. The buttons were found on several tweets from the shopping app “Fancy.” The tweets advertised various products including Nike shoes, a bookcase and a Nest thermostat. These buttons are no longer visible on the mobile app and neither the web version.
The "Buy now" button appears to be similar to the "Download" button that shows up in app-install ads. Twitter has been struggling to garner revenue from advertising, The "Buy Now" button just a day after Twitter acquired mobile ad tech firm TapCommerce. There is no official word from Twitter regarding these buttons.
This is not the first time Twitter has tapped into e-commerce. In May, Amazon teamed up with Twitter to allows users to add products to their Amazon shopping carts directly through tweets.

Google added SMS integration to Hangout last year in October. The feature that was launched to encourage use of Hangouts allowed users to get their Hangouts instant-messages sent them over SMS in case they don't have an internet connection.
Users simply add their phone number to Hangouts in order to receive notifications. The feature is only available in countries with limited mobile data connectivity like India and Africa where internet penetration is still in nascent stage. An unofficial blog of news on Google dubbed as Google Operating System has claimed that SMS for Hangouts will shutdown on July 2.
As now Hangouts support SMS natively, Google might have decided to axe the service. Also, user still send and receive text and multimedia messages in the Hangouts app. It must be noted that Google has not officially confirmed this move however, 9to5 Google claims that a Google spokesperson has confirmed the killing of SMS for Hangouts.

The Swipe Konnect 5.0 has a unique design compared to other smartphones in the range. It has curved corners and a curved back. The 5-inch IPS display with a pixel resolution of 960 by 540 has a pixel density of 220 PPI. The display is bright, has good viewing angles and the sunlight legibility is good, but the screen is not sharp.

The Xolo Q1010i got the Android 4.4 (KitKat) update few days back. Today Xolo has released the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) update for the Xolo Q1010 as it promised in May. The Xolo Q1010 was released back in February running Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). Xolo promised Android KitKat update for a range of older devices including, Q700S, Q3000 and more. Hope Xolo would roll out the KitKat updates for its older devices soon since it already started selling smartphones running Android 4.4 out of the box.
The Android 4.4 (KitKat) update brings restyled status and navigation bars, color emoji, printing support, a new camera UI, new phone dialer with ability to look up contacts directly from the dial pad, see and tap frequent contacts, and search your corporate directory easily, under the hood improvements and more.
This update is currently not available over-the-air (OTA), and you need to download the 316MB file from the official Xolo support site and load it to the smartphone manually. You can find out the complete instructions from the Xolo support page (PDF).
LG G3 Prime, an enhanced variant of the LG G3 has been rumored to be in the works for quite sometime now. UA Profile of the LG smartphone with the model number LG-F460L and codenamed Tiger has surfaced online that shows APQ8084, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 SoC onboard. The LG-F460L that ends in L is expected to head to Korean operator LGU+. The LG-F460S, another variant that is expected to head to SK Telecom (SKT) has passed Bluetooth certification.
Other than these, the UA Profile and the Bluetooth SIG doesn't reveal any other details. Samsung launched the Galaxy S5 LTE-A with Snapdragon 805 and Quad HD display last month for the Korean market. The LG G3 Prime is also expected to launch only in Korea and support LTE Advanced that would offer download speed of up to 225 Mbps with the new Qualcomm MDM9635 modem that supports speed of up to 300 Mbps.

Earlier this week Amazon India said that it would bring the Samsung Galaxy K zoom to India exclusively. Amazon India has just announced that the camera-centric smartphone would be available for pre-order on its website for Rs. 29,999 starting today midnight. LG L90 Dual, the company's top-end smartphone in the L Series III lineup went on sale in India earlier this year. Microsoft and Canon have signed a patent cross-licensing agreement. The company did not disclose the exact term of the deal but said that both will share intellectual property on a "broad range of products and services," including those for certain digital imaging and mobile consumer products.
“This collaborative approach with Canon allows us to deliver inventive technologies that benefit consumers around the world. Microsoft believes cooperative licensing is an effective way to accelerate innovation while reducing patent disputes.”
said Nick Psyhogeos, GM, associate general counsel, IP Licensing of the Innovation and Intellectual Property Group at Microsoft in a statement.
Today's patent agreement isn't the first forged by the two companies. In 2009, Microsoft said that Canon was among the first firms to sign up for a licensing program for its Extended File Allocation Table (exFAT) technology. Google has announced a major update to Google Play Services to all the Android devices worldwide. The 5.0 update to Google Play Services brings support to Android Wear. This will bring new APIs that will let developers connect their apps to wearable devices running Android Wear. It will also allow them to easily sync information between their phone apps and wearable devices.
This release introduces Android wearable services APIs, Dynamic Security Provider and App Indexing, whilst also including updates to the Google Play game services, Cast, Drive, Wallet, Analytics, and Mobile Ads.

Airtel today launched its new 3G dongle that would offer download speeds of up to 21.6 Mbps on 3G. This lets users create a Wi-Fi hotspot easily by plugging it into a laptop, phone charger or a car stereo. This can be shared with up to 5 devices simultaneously. Android Wear apps have paved their way to Google Play Store. Smartwatches running on the latest Android Wear are already flooding the markets and to use them efficiently, Google has released few apps that support Android Wear.
The official Android Wear app is now available in the Google Play Store. The app helps you to pair your Android device to your new wearable and, once paired, lets you control your voice action preferences, adjust your notification settings and configure your devices. There are more than 20 apps for the Android Wear ranging from health, social, news, productivity etc.
Google says apps submitted to Play Store can either run only Android devices while sending notifications to Android Wear or exclusively on Android Wear, but third-party developers may also use an APK that allows them to create apps for both mobile and wearable platforms.

Earlier this year Opera introduced Sponsored Web Pass, new mobile internet packages to consumers that lets operators team up with advertisers to sponsor mobile internet access for a limited time, free of cost. Today Idea Cellular has teamed up with Opera Software and Quikr, popular online mobile classifieds portal to offer sponsored mobile data through Sponsored Web Passes for its customers in India. Idea tied up with Opera earlier this year to launch Idea Web Pass.
Opera's Sponsored Web Pass is being launched for the first time in South Asia. Opera had already tied up with several Indian operators to launch customized version of its Opera mini browser. Microsoft is preparing tablet version of its Office on Android tablets, according to a report from The Verge. The company is seeking beta testers for the same and has posted a sign-up page where individuals and companies can register their interest in testing pre-release versions of Office.
The “pre-release program” includes all aspects of Microsoft's productivity suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Visio, Access, Publisher and Outlook. The program allows users who are interested in getting an early look at new software to sign up for a chance to be included in early beta tests prior to the official rollout. Business users can also sign up to test beta versions of Exchange, SharePoint and Project.
About a year ago, the company released a smartphone-compatible version. Microsoft released Office for iPad in March this year and was an instant hit. The Android version of the Office will reportedly be optimized for touch similar to the iPad version. Anyone interested in joining the beta-testing fraternity for Android Office on their tablet ought to visit this Microsoft page to formally submit an application.
It will be interesting to see how does Office for Android Tablet turn out, as Google recently integrated QuickOffice into Doc, Sheets and Slides recently that includes Microsoft Office editing.

LG F70, the company's latest mid-range LTE smartphone that was spotted on official LG India website is now available from online retailer Infibeam in India. It was announced earlier this year at the MWC and packs a 4.5-inch WVGA display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat).

LG had a successful rollout of its flagship phone LG G3 in May. Now, it looks like the company is involved in making other variants of the G3. According to LG's trademark filing on USPTO, LG has claimed trademark on four more G3 names for next variants of the phone.
The company has trademarked names like G3 Beat, G3 Lite, G3 Vigor and G3 Vista. Out of this, just few days back, we saw the LG Beat in China and it is touted that it could be the G3 mini. The report states that G3 Lite sounds like a mini version of G3 while G3 Vista can possibly be a Verizon exclusive model as we heard rumors about LG G Vista. At the end there is G3 Vigor whose specifications cannot be predicted.
It is not clear if LG is actually preparing other variants of the G3, but as the LG Beat has already surfaced in China, we might as well see other model trademarked by the company in near future.

Last month's rumors about the HTC Volantis claimed that it would be Google’s next Nexus tablet. Now @evleaks has revealed details about the tablet and has also posted a macro shot of the tablet. According to @evelaks the earlier leaks that showed the render or concept of the tablet is fake. The tablet is expected to be powered by a 64-bit Tegra K1 SoC and would have aluminum unibody design, that coincides with the earlier leak.
The test device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip and has a 5GB DDR3 RAM, but the final retail unit might not feature 5GB RAM. It also has a 8.9-inch (1680 x 1050 pixels) display, but the final unit is expected to come with 2560×1600 pixels display, so the display should be sharper than the Nexus 10. Earlier leak revealed that it would feature a 8.9-inch (2048×1440 pixels) display.
The prototype has 64GB of onboard storage and 5MP rear camera with 1080p, but the final unit might come with a 8-megapixel camera as rumored earlier. It would also feature stereo front-facing speakers with Boomsound technology. The Android Silver OS Alpha 1.4 marking on the image hints that this could be the company's first Android SIlver tablet and not the Nexus 9 as previous rumors suggested.
