We had reviewed the Nokia Lumia 720 earlier and had lauded the camera capabilities. We were so impressed by the low light performance that we decided to give it a go again and see how it fares in very challenging conditions. Below is a summary of the photos taken and some additional information on how it fared. Read on. The Nokia Lumia 720 has a 1/3.6" 6.7 Megapixel sensor with a f1.9 aperture. The aperture on this camera is second largest in a smartphone, only next to the f1.8 of the Lenovo K900. The custom sensor is a 16:9 crop by default and provides a nice field of view. Without further ado, lets take a look at the photos then. All the photos are in full resolution, so feel free to click into a new tab for the full picture. This was probably one of the luckiest shot from the 720, it handled the scene really well, apart from the blurry moving objects pointing to the apparent increase in shutter speed. The details were captured well except for some shake in the edges of the photo. A commendable job, and a true to life image. Another highly detailed shot pulled off in little to ...

So here we have 2 supreme Android phones , the best Windows phone and latest iPhone fighting against each other in this camera comparison! Dive in and take a look. Samsung Galaxy S4 The Samsung Galaxy S4 captures full HD videos like all the other high end smartphones, and quality does seem pretty good in day light. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBNzDU0CLLg With software stabilisation on, the image was a bit cropped, and hence a narrower field of view for the final output. While the white balance was fine, it did struggle with exposure compensation by under exposing the scene in bright backgrounds, this is prevalent in most smartphone cameras with small-ish sensors. The audio is recorded in stereo and we were surprised ...

Nexus 4 spotted running Android 4.3 Jellybean

XDA forum user Chaleen has posted the above image found on a Nexus 4 in a mobile Expo in Thailand. The Android version number being 4.3 suggests that the newest iteration of Android, which was expected to be launched at the Google I/O a week back might actually be launched on the rumoured date of June 10th. More screenshots from the user below. As expected, the name stays and so does the easter egg under the settings->about page. While not many screens are available, we think the notion is that 4.3 is going to be an incremental update like the 4.2 update. Obviously Nexus devices will be getting them first, including Nexus 4 and the Galaxy nexus of course. The camera UI seems to have some changes in the quick shortcuts. Much better than before we'd say, the "press and reveal the dial" based UI was slightly a bit unintuitive. We could expect the new build to roll out on the 10th of June, or at least we hope so. When it arrives, we will be sure to let you know the new features as well, so hang tight! Source XDA via DroidLife

Vertu, the luxury phone maker, has launched its first Luxury handset of 2013, called the Vertu Ti, after being acquired by European investment firm EQT. Vertu had been an integral part of Nokia for several years till the Finnish company decided to sell Vertu's majority shares, last year. Not surprisingly, the first Vertu Phone, post the acquisition from Nokia, is an Android phone. Vertu Ti runs on Android 4.0. Ti here stands for Titanium. The phone is encased in a Titanium body. The Vertu Ti is available in Indian stores starting at Rupees 6,49,995/- I went gloves on with the Vertu Ti - Black Leather and Black Alligator versions, priced at 6,49,995 and 8,74,995, respectively. FIRST HANDS ON (without gloves) WITH VERTU TI. Most Luxury phones justify their big price tag, by the precious stones and metal, used in the body. Vertu Ti too uses precious metal, but the big price tag here, is for the craftsmanship in making this handset. Shear beauty, perfection in details and aesthetics that will woo at first glance. Lets begin with unboxing. The Vertu Ti comes in a big Black box with three drawers - of nearly a dozen accessories, beneath the phone tray. Never imagined, unboxing a phone, ...

Karbonn Titanium S5 vs Micromax A116 Canvas HD

We got to unbox and review the Karbonn Titanium S5 recently and found it to be a good enough phone for the price. Since we had the Micromax A116 Canvas HD lying around, and also since there are a lot of similarities in the form factor and somewhat the price, we decided to compare them both. Here is a detailed in-depth look at the comparison of Karbonn Titanium S5 vs Micromax A116 canvas HD - httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RpehhDhbUU The design of both the phones are similar. Rounded corners and slim profiles make them look remarkably similar. However, the Karbonn has the better build quality and even arguably the design. The only negative we would say, on the Titanium S5 is the fingerprint magnet back panel, but it is so much better than the dirty back panel on the Canvas HD. Talking of the dimensions, the Karbonn Titanium S5 is 8.95 mm thick which is a lot thinner than the 10.7 mm thickness of the Canvas HD. Overall, we think that the S5 does feel more solid and sleek. Coming to the display, the Karbonn S5's 5" 960x540 qHD IPS pales in comparison to the Canvas HD's 5" 1280x720 IPS. But wait, while the pixel density of ...

While we are reviewing the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, we saw it fit that we compare it with the other small tablets in our labs. The Apple iPad mini is the one and only smaller iPad with a cheaper price as well as better portability obviously, so how does it fare when compared to the Galaxy Note 8.0? Lets find out. Here's the in-depth video comparison and read past the break for the text - httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA6JVdlvpSs The Galaxy Note 8.0 falls in the much loved Note range of devices, comprising mostly of phones but some tablets too. Is this a phone? or a tablet? We want to call it a tablet because of the screen size. There are some compromises in hardware though, we will talk about it below. The iPad mini the smaller iPad from Apple, made to compete with all the small tablets, like the Nexus 7 or the various other Android models. The design of the Note 8.0 reminds us so much of the Samsung galaxy s3, white overall with chrome like plastic on the sides. Glossy plastic and white means the back is a finger print magnet and gets dirty easily, and the devices feels really cheap in the hands. ...

TRAI issues new regulations for SMS termination charges to curb spam SMS

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has imposed new SMS termination charges for retail consumers and commercial messages. Termination charge is paid by the operator where the SMS originates to the operator to which the message is delivered. TRAI did not set a particular charge for this hence some operators were charging 10 paise as termination charges. Now they have set the SMS termination charge as 2 paise for normal SMS and 5 paise on transactional SMS on operators from whom the SMS originates. The 5 paise SMS termination charges was already present for promotional messages since a regulation in 2010. Now, it will also be applicable for transactional messages, which also falls under commercial communications category. This move is to prevent pesky SMS. (TRAI) imposed the restriction of 100 SMS/ day per SIM recently to prevent pesky marketing SMS. Transactional SMSes originating from the government organisations will be exempted from the termination charges. These new regulations would be applicable from 1st June 2013.

We'd recently reported on a major update to the popular note taking app on Microsoft's struggling mobile platform. The update gave Evernote much needed features including a freshened up design and homescreen. Today the company is rolling out a new update that adds some nifty features like pinned tool tiles. Evernote's version 3.1 will let you pin specific tools like notes, recordings and snapshots straight to your homescreen allowing for quick access to these features. Evernote is also adding in a a Snippet View that will let users access notes in a horizontal list. This should come in handy for those who like to view n manipulate their phone in the landscape orientation. Evernote is one of the most popular note taking applications out there available on  most platforms. It allows cross device syncing in addition to many other features. On the Windows Phone platform, it is given stiff competition by Microsoft's own OneNote application that provides a similar feature set with tighter OS level integration. [Via - Engadget]
