Back when Joe Belfiore took part in an AMA on Reddit, for Windows Phone 8.1, he revealed that Microsoft had an official File Manager app ready and it will be coming soon. That day has arrived, as the "Files" app has made its way on to the store. With the new WinRT APIs for 8.1, Microsoft had enabled the file picker and file access for third party apps, and it was only about time that they made a first party app too. This should have been released along with the operating system, but hey, at least we get full file management on Windows Phone now. Grab it from the link below, from the Windows Phone Store - "Files" for Windows Phone The store description reads - By using this app you can: • Access files stored on your phone and SD card • Browse, search and launch files • Easily share one file or multiple files • Create folders to organise your files • Copy, move, rename and delete files A good thing about the first party file manager app is that you can "manage" your files, by adding folders, performing move/copy operations and such, unlike some of the third party explorers that are already available on the store. ...

Japan Display Inc. has announced a 7-inch wide QXGA (1600 x 2560 pixels) LCD panel for tablets. This LTPS (Low temperature polysilicon) type display has a new WhiteMagic technology that promises low power consumption and high visibility under sunlight. This uses edge-lit method, in which the LEDs are placed at the edges of the lightguide plate. This can reduce the module of up to 1.16 mm. We had already seen this WhiteMagic technology on the Sony Xperia P, but this also uses new local dimming backlight along with this. It uses red, green blue and white (RGBW) sub pixels, in which the light can also be filtered through the white sub pixel, to represent a true white. This lets the display control the backlight more efficiently through the combined use of WhiteMagic and the local dimming backlight, thus reducing power consumption by 20% compared with conventional WhiteMagic modules, says JDI . Display mode LTPS IPS Screen size (diagonal) 7.0-inch (17.9cm) Number of pixels 1,600(H) x 2,560(V) RGBW (WQXGA) Resolution density 431 ppi Module thickness 1.16mm Dead-band Side 1.0mm NTSC ratio 0.7 Contrast Ratio 2,200:1 (19,000:1 max.) Viewing angle >160 degree (CR>100:1) Surface luminance 500cd/m2 (typ.)  JDI will showcased the new display at the SID DISPLAY WEEK 2014 in San Diego, California next week. It is not clear when we can expect this display panel on tablets.

Introduction The Lava Iris Pro 20 is a slightly stripped down version of the Lava Iris Pro 30 which was launched earlier this year. The Lava Iris Pro 20 looks very much like its big brother Lava Iris Pro 30 and both the Iris Pro phones look like the iPhone. The specifications of the Lava Iris Pro 20 are on the lower mid-range side and for Rs.12,999, lets check out how it performs. Design, Build Quality and Handling As previously stated, the Iris Pro 20 looks a lot like the its big brother Iris Pro 30 and the iPhone. The design language is very good and its amazing how they have managed to keep the whole phone very light at around 112g(same as the iPhone again). The build quality of the Iris Pro 20 is good for its price and though it looks like the iPhone, it is nowhere solid like it. That is mainly because of the all plastic body. The Lava Iris Pro 20 feels solid most times, but there are times when you wish you weren’t holding a plastic iPhone look alike. Lets have a quick hardware run down of it. On the front, we have the display above which there is the ...

In a bid to enhance its HERE Map offering, Nokia has bought Desti for an undisclosed sum. The mapping startup and app maker uses artificial intelligence and natural language processing to generate more personalized location searches and maps. Desti app is based out of the same research center as Siri and Nuance. We want to create a new class of location services that implicitly understands who you are and what you're looking for, sometimes even before you ask, said HERE VP of Search and Places Don Zereski blog. Founded by Nadav, Desti will shut down as a result of the acquisition. The iOS app has already been taken down from the Apple App Store. Desti also taps your social graph, taking into account your preferences and tastes from your Facebook likes and own history of using the service. Nokia has not provided details about how it will integrate Desti's technology to HERE Maps. However, its pretty clear that HERE Maps will become more efficient and will show refined and tailored results. It looks like HERE Maps along with Desti's integration will compete with Foursquare and Google Search for Nearby Places. Earlier this month, there were reports saying that Nokia will bring HERE Maps to Android and iOS soon.
