BlackBerry Runtime for Android apps updated to Android 4.3

BlackBerry has updated BlackBerry Runtime for Android apps to support Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) from Android 4.2.2 as it promised. This includes new Android APIs and a lot of new features such as support for accounts, Bluetooth LE, NFC and more. Android development app has also been updated to version 2.0.3 beta. Here are the main features in the new BlackBerry Runtime for Android apps Accounts Support: Android applications that use authentication for user login can now be set up and managed from within the BlackBerry 10 accounts settings. Bluetooth LE: Applications that use Bluetooth Low Energy from Android API level 18 are now supported. NFC: Android applications that integrate with NFC are supported. NFC support includes reading and writing tags, as well as sharing data between NFC enabled devices. Share Framework v2: Android applications can now share to BlackBerry 10 share menu targets. BlackBerry released BlackBerry 10.3 Beta SDK OS for BlackBerry 10 recently that brings the new Runtime. It also highlighted some important features in the upcoming BlackBerry 10.3 update. This would be more useful for porting Android apps with new features such as NFC.

LG Tone Infinim Bluetooth headset developed with Harman/Kardon announced

LG has unveiled Tone Infinim (HBS-900), its new premium Bluetooth stereo headset developed in collaboration with Harman/Kardon. It has a stylish design that is almost similar to previous Tone series headsets from LG, but this has a glossy metallic finish. It has retractable wire management technology for tangle-free operation, jog button to fast forward and rewind, sound and vibration alert to inform of incoming messages, current time and battery status.  It use Bluetooth 3.0 technology and supports most audio profiles such as A2DP, AVRCP, HFP and HSP. With the 220 mAh built-in rechargeable battery, LG promises up to 17 hours of talk time, up to 14 hours of audio playback and up to 550 hours of standby. The headset is also optimized for the upcoming LG G3 smartphone. It has Name Alert, which announces the name or phone number of person calling and Answer Me+,  exclusively available for G3. The Answer Me+ lets users automatically disconnect Tone Infinim when you raise G3 to your ear to allow for direct use of the smartphone. The LG Tone Infinim comes in Silver color initially and would go on sale starting this summer in major markets globally. No word on pricing yet.

There were rumors at the end of last month that Google is replacing its Nexus line of devices with high-end Android Silver phones. Last week, Chromium code of Nexus 6 and Nexus 8 were spotted online on the Code Review page. Today, popular Twitter leaker @evleaks has revealed that Google is planning to scrap its Nexus line and hence we will not see a Nexus 6. There is no Nexus 6. Farewell, Nexus. Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime, Galaxy S5 Google Play edition pass Bluetooth certification

Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime (SM-G906L) has appeared on the Bluetooth SIG website and seems to have passed the Bluetooth certification. The Korean variant of the Galaxy S5 Prime (SM-G906K) appeared briefly on the official Korean website recently and another variant, SM-G906S appeared on a Hong Kong retail site few days back. All these have been listed on the Bluetooth SIG database. According to @evleaks the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime would be launched in Korea in black, white, gold, blue, and sweet pink colors. The Bluetooth SIG listing doesn't reveal any other specs, but according to earlier rumors, the S5 Prime would come with a 5.2-inch (2560 × 1440 pixels) WQHD AMOLED display, powered by Snapdragon 805 / Exynos SoCs, 3GB RAM, 16-megapixel camera, Android 4.4.3 and with LTE-A support in markets like Korea. In addition to the S5 Prime, the Galaxy S5 Google Play edition (SM-G900) has also appeared on Bluetooth SIG database. Google acquires Word Lens creator Quest Visual to boost Translate

In an effort to enhance its Google Translate service, Google has acquired Quest Visual for an undisclosed sum.  Founded by former video game developer Otavio Good in 2009, the company is the maker of the popular translation app Word Lens. Available on Android and iOS, the app translates visual into texts without a network connection. The app users smartphone’s camera to translate printed words from one language to another in real time. It supports languages like English, Russian, Portuguese, German, Italian, French, and Spanish. Word Lens 1.0 was released in December 2010 for iOS, followed later by an Android version in July 2012 and a Google Glass release in November 2013. By joining Google, we can incorporate Quest Visual's technology into Google Translate's broad language coverage and translation capabilities in the future. posted Quest Visual in the company blog. Airtel has launched 4G services in Ludhiana, Punjab. Airtel launched its 4G LTE services in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula in Punjab and Haryana back last March and rolled out voice services on 4G in these three cities earlier this month. In Ludhiana, Airtel customers can access 4G on dongles, Wi-Fi CPEs (Customer Premise Equipment/ routers) and mobile phones. Airtel also offers 4G LTE services in Kolkata, Bengaluru and Pune and 4G on mobile in Bengaluru. The Apple iPhone 5S (models A1530& A1518) and iPhone 5C (models A1529 & A1516) users can experience 4G by upgrading to a USIM (Universal SIM) / 4G SIM.  The USIM comes free with the purchase of dongle (Rs. 1500) or CPE (Rs. 2500) and is priced at Rs 49 for mobile users. It is also available on Xolo LT 900 and LG G2 (D802T). Xiaomi started its operations in Singapore recently and announced that it would expand to 10 more countries this year, including India. Today, at an event Xiaomi’s CEO Lin Bin and Hugo Barra launched the Mi 3 in Malaysia. This is the first phone to launch in the country after its entry and it plans to launch Redmi 1S in Malaysia next month. To celebrate the launch, Xiaomi has also released custom MIUI Theme in the MIUI Theme Store. The theme highlights Malaysian landmarks and culture such as Twin Towers, the Malaysian national flag, and KL Tower, said Hugo Barra. The Xiaomi Mi-3 was unveiled in China last year and packs a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS display, powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 (MSM 8974AB) processor with Adreno 330 GPU runs on MIUI v5 based on Android 4.3. Facebook reportedly developing video chat tool Slingshot to compete with Snapchat

Facebook is planning to take on popular ephemeral messaging app Snapchat by developing its own video and photo messaging app. According to the Financial Times, the social network is calling the app Slingshot that will let user share videos and photos that are self destructing. The app which is in making for several months and could be ready for release on the major smartphone platforms by the end of this month. It likely possible that the app will not be integrated with Facebook's other apps like Facebook Messenger. Slingshot is reported to have video chat and will let users send photos or short videos that can only be viewed once to their friends by tapping on their profile pictures.The report however, does not mention on which platforms will the app be available. This is not the first time Facebook has tried its hand on ephemeral message service. It launched Poke in 2012 which failed miserably and hence it took down the service earlier this month. Snapchat which recently added support for instant messaging, has become incredibly popular with teenagers on mobile. HTC launched the Desire 816, a mid-range smartphone in the Desire series in India recently. It went on sale in the Indian market earlier this week and we already brought you the unboxing of the smartphone recently. Here we have the benchmarks it. The Desire 816 is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with four ARM Cortex A7 Cores and Adreno 305 GPU. It has a 5.5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) display and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat)  with HTC's own Sense UI on top. BlackBerry has updated the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) for Android to version 2.2. This brings new sign up screen and new sign in screen for new and existing users respectively. The new sign up screen now has limited number of fields. You just need to give your name, email and a password. This update also adds option to invite a user via email. You can just accept the contact by opening the email. This also adds 16 new emoticons.  The 'Updates' tab has been renamed to 'Feeds'. This would represent what you find there – the latest statuses and profile photos from your BBM contacts and the newest posts from the BBM Channels you follow, says BlackBerry. HTC shows off plastic variant of the HTC One flagship with M7 design and M8 specifications

HTC has been long rumored to be working on a plastic version of its flagship - HTC One and today, HTC have officially confirmed that by making the HTC One Plastic variant page live. The plastic variant comes in yesteryear flagship - M7's design language, but with a glossy plastic build. However, since HTC want it to be a direct Galaxy S5 competitor, they are equipping it with the specifications of the current generation flagship - HTC One M8. The device will be reportedly called as HTC One M8 Ace and will also be referred as the "Vogue Edition" of the HTC One. Based on the official images in the HTC website, we can see that a minimum of four color variants of the HTC One M8 Ace are coming - Red, Blue, Black and White variants.
