$

Xolo launched a slightly updated version of the Xolo Q1010 in the form of Xolo Q1010i with the minor update including a better 8MP Sony EXMOR R Sensor. Other than the upgrade in the camera department, the Xolo Q1010i is pretty much very similar to the Xolo Q1010 in terms of performance, build quality and design. Lets check out how the upgraded camera and the device perform together. Design, Build Quality and Handling The Xolo Q1010i is one solid smartphone in the price range and quite the looker. The build quality is pretty good and the device feels very solid in the hand. The screen to phone ratio isn't the greatest and a lot of real estate goes wasted with the not so narrow bezels. The choice of design and materials for the Xolo Q1010i is pleasing as they have decided to go with a soft matte back cover and a contrasting shiny metal rim running across the device. The metal rim across the center of the device is a bit protruding all throughout and that makes the device feel a little thinner than it actually is. Xolo Q1010i feels quite comfortable in the hand because of the grippy matte back. On the front, ...

Galaxy S3 and S3 Mini will not get KitKat update: Samsung

Yesterday there was a report about a list of Samsung Galaxy devices that will get latest Android KitKat 4.4.2 update by next month. The list suggested that the Non-LTE variant of the S3 will not receive the Android KiKat update. Now SamMobile has received an official confirmation from Samsung that the device will indeed not get the update due to hardware limitations. The South Korean tech giant stated that S3 and S3 Mini are incapable of running the latest Android version as both the devices have only 1GB RAM. This is not a satisfying answer as we know that Android KitKat can run on devices with even 512 MB of RAM, but it must be noted that it could be possible only with stock Android. Also, Samsung touts that both the devices have Samsung's TouchWiz UI which does not help to run Android smoothly. So, it is official that the S3 non-LTE variant and S3 Mini users will have to be satisfied with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The Galaxy S3 still remains one the most popular and largest selling Samsung device. However, the S3 LTE variant will get the Android KitKat 4.4 update as stated earlier. Source

Lava launched the Iris 504Q+ successor of the Iris 504Q last month. The Iris 504Q that we reviewed last year had an 8-megapixel camera that was pretty good. The Iris 504Q+ has a 10-megapixel rear camera with Sony's Exmor RS sensor that is the main highlight of the phone. Is the Iris 504Q successor worth the price? It this better than other phones in this range? Let us find out in the review. Unboxing We unboxed the Iris 504Q+ recently. Check out the unboxing video httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG8-Fz-C45I Box Contents The box contents include, Lava Iris 504Q+ in black Free flip cover with sticky attachment Free scratch guard Information booklet – user guide Micro USB cable Charging plug In-ear earphones with mic Hardware and Design The design of the phone is a bit different from its predecessor, the Iris 504Q. This has a chrome rim running on the sides of the phone. The width of the phone is normal, even with huge bezels on the sides, but the phone is too tall at 146.7mm, mainly due to bezels above, and below the display. Since the phone is tall, it is not comfortable for one-handed usage, if you have small hands. It has a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS display at around 294 ppi pixel density. The ...

Recently a Google devices codenamed Flounder appeared on Chrome Issue tracker. Now the codename has appeared on Android 4.4.3 (KitKat MR2) Changelog. Google usually uses fish-themed codenames for their Nexus devices such as Hammerhead, Tilapia, Manta etc. So it is clear that this would be the next Nexus device. The changelog also confirms that HTC will manufacture the device. The line "project device/htc/flounder-kernel/" in the changelog confirms HTC as the OEM of the Nexus device. This could be the next Nexus 6 smartphone or the  rumored HTC-made Nexus 8 tablet. The change log on AOSP has also uncovered yet another codename "Google Molly”. This could be a set top box or the successor to the Google Chromecast. HTC made the first Nexus phone, but we did not see a HTC-made Nexus device since Google chose Asus to manufacture both the Nexus tablet. What could be the Nexus Flounder? A tablet or a smartphone? Hope we can get some details about the upcoming Nexus device or the mystery "Google Molly" project at the Google I/O 2014 next month. Via

Oracle wins copyright appeal against Google, new trial to follow

Remember when Google won the lawsuit against Oracle for Android's copyright infringement on Java? That ruling, which was from a Districts court in San Francisco, has been overruled by a Federal Appeals court, which has practically rubbished the former's decision. The new ruling states that Oracle's Java APIs, the ones it acquired as a part of its Sun Microsystems acquisition, do fall under copyright and hence, a new trial on fair use and damages will follow. This is a big blow to Google, purveyor of the omnipresent Android operating system, as it would need to face a fresh set of trials, again. Oracle, on the other hand, will see this as an opportunity to get back at the Mountain View company. District Judge Alsup's ruling on the 2012 lawsuit between the two tech giants declared that Oracle's Java API packages do not come under copyrightability, which is what Google had argued for. Oracle was obviously not happy with the result and took it to the Federal Appeals court, which has specifically agreed with Oracle's counter argument that the Java API packages are indeed copyrightable. This is what the ruling reads - "Oracle asserts that all of the trial court's conclusions regarding copyrightability ...
