Google didn't announce any new devices including the most expected White Google Nexus 4. Google would release the White Nexus 4 on along with the Android 4.3 on June 10th, according to a report from a website Android and Me. The White Nexus 4 surfaced earlier this year. It would have a Nexus and LG branding in black, in contrast to the black version and have patterns on the glass back similar to the black version. LG and Google officially launched the Nexus 4 in India yesterday, which would give a tough competition to other Android smartphones in the India market. Google would sell the White Nexus 4 on the Google Play Store in select countries. Wonder when the White Nexus 4 would come to India. Android 4.3 was also expected to be announced at the Google I/O but it didn't happen. Google wanted to demo their ability to roll out new services and APIs without upgrading the Android firmware, hence the Android 4.3 didn't debut at the Google I/O, according to the sources. We just heard some rumours about the next version of Android, which indicate a June 10th launch date, but the Bluetooth Special Interest group is already excited about it. The main reason why they are excited is that Google has announced at their I/O developers conference that the next version of Android will be Bluetooth Smart ready, for devices with a dual mode Bluetooth chip. Bluetooth smart was a name given to the latest features of Bluetooth 4.0 which includes drastically reduced power consumption using a low pulsing method instead of a continuous stream. This enables a lot of useful sensory applications like heart rate monitors and various accessories that can connect with your phone and not have a major effect on the battery. Announced at IO, Android devices that have a dual mode Bluetooth chip, which can do both traditional BT stuff like data transfer and simultaneously do low power information transfer with Bluetooth Smart ready devices. Several accessories have already arrived in the market and the inclusion of Bluetooth Smart in the next Android natively will enabled developers to target all devices, instead of select few Android devices, in which Bluetooth Smart has been manually added through custom APIs ...

Having launched the Galaxy Win elsewhere, Samsung, in its own tradition, has renamed the same device to Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro for the Indian market and is now available from the Samsung India eStore for Rs. 16,900/-. Sporting a 4.7 inch display with WVGA resolution and sporting near-similar specs to the Grand Duos, this dual SIM Android 4.1 Jellybean phone is squarely aimed at competing with the various budget Android manufacturers in India who offer bigger screens for cheaper prices. Currently retailing at Rs. 16,900/- this phone will be available in two colours, black mist and frost white. The phone has some pretty decent specs and sports a quad core Snapdragon 200 processor, hence the surname "Quattro" to indicate that this is a Galaxy Grand, but with a quad core processor. Seems like the device's only aim is to ward off on-paper spec battles even though the Cortex A5 processors, even if they are quad core, offer inferior performance to the dual core one on the Galaxy Grand Duos. The ASUS Fonepad has been in our labs for quite some time, and in our review, you might have noticed that we were disappointed with the Fonepad's performance. It even suffered in our gaming performance tests. But if you are still waiting on buying one, then good news awaits you. ASUS has just announced and launched a new Fonepad with better specs. The "Lexington" Intel Z2420 chipset has been swapped with the better performing Intel Z2460, and the 16GB internal storage, which gave us only 11GB of usable memory has been doubled to 32GB. All the other specs remain intact though, with the display still highly reflective, we guess. But still, a good thing that ASUS heard customer feedback and swiftly fixed it. However, there is a price to pay for the new version of Fonepad. It will be 60$ higher than before, a good 3,300 INR higher in our case. The Intel Z2460 is a 1.6 GHz Single Core processor with HT, codenamed Medfield. This initially debuted with the Intel Xolo X900, and sports the same PowerVR SGX 540 GPU, but with a higher core frequency of 400 MHz. This, and the processor speed bump might help the Fonepad in ...

When it comes to keeping the promise for Software Updates, Nokia is definitely one of those few companies who complies with such promise. Nokia pushed the Gallery and Camera update as software update to its imaging super-champ Nokia 808 PureView back in March. This update is now available in India.  The update which is little more than 2MB in size has been pushed through Software Update application than as separate firmware update. As per Nokia, the update provides improved Gallery which now supports multiple images for sharing via Nokia Share as well as via MMS and Bluetooth. This also includes performance update for 808 Camera System. Post update, I have not noticed yet any new features in the 808 Camera Software but definitely noticed more accurate Auto White Balance performance in indoor photography with Flash on. Also from lock screen the camera start up by using the camera key is now even more speedier without any hiccups. This update is now available Over-the-Air (OTA) for the Nokia 808 PureView. We are really pleased that Nokia has not forgotten the PureView 808 for new features and firmware updates. If you notice some new features and specific improvement post this update, do let us know in the comments.

Here's a mobile application, built, not to compete in the million dollar application market, but to change a million lives. SootSwap, is a mobile app made to promote clean cooking technologies in several places across the world, including rural India where use of traditional cookstoves has led to deaths due to inhalation of smoke from open cooking fires. According to statistics provided from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2010, an estimate four million people die, annually due to smoke from open fires. A family living in rural India can earn enough money to buy better stoves by selling carbon credits to carbon market. But how does one verify the reduction in carbon emissions by clean cookstoves ? Qualcomm Inc, Nexleaf Ananlytics, TERI (The Energy and Resource Institute ), Project Surya and the UK department of International Development, together, worked on building SootSwap, an application that will detect carbon data and help solve this problem. How does SootSwap work? The SootSwap system has a mobile phone based temp sensing app that connects to an Android phone or Brew CDMA phone. Stove usage is calculated with this app. Data of number of times the stove is turned on is sent to a server, wirelessly. This ...

Nokia Lumia 928 Photo Gallery

Nokia recently launched a brand new variant of its popular Lumia 920 smartphone on Verizon in the US. The handset went on sale on 16th May and while in New York we decided to step into a retail store to get a feel for the handset. Here's a quick photo gallery to whet your appetite while we work on a brief impressions post. The biggest change is of course at the back of the handset where Nokia has equipped the phone with a Xenon flash. This should theoretically result in rather amazing low light shots. Given the fact that Nokia has years of experience with the technology, we wouldn't be too worried. The other important change is the shift to an AMOLED screen instead of the IPS panel seen on the 920. Other than that the resolution and size remains the same but you do get deeper blacks and more vibrant colors. The handset is exclusive to Verizon and that is something that we're quite disappointed by considering a Xenon flash is a genuinely useful addition that would be appreciated by a majority of buyers. Available starting 16th May, you can get the Nokia Lumia 928 for $99 on a two contract ...
