Ever since phablets launched, there has been a push for scaling and an increase in the information density on those screens, irrespective of resolution. There has been a push to adopt the, initially clunky, Multi Window system that allowed an user to have two different apps, or more recently, two different instances of the same app. all on the same screen. It made sense for some tasks such as using the calculator and having your expense notes on the same screen, or a voice recorder and a notes page for quick typing of notes on the same screen. It all makes sense if you specifically perform those tasks, and they work great. Other manufacturers have been giving it a go and Lenovo too has followed suit with its own implementation on its flagship smartphone, the Vibe Z. Here is a video demo of it - httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nS2RPQ_5Kyc While we have seen people make mini versions of their apps for these kinds of implementations, Lenovo has taken the scaling route. Android, since 4.0 has been using native scaling of app assets based on the screen resolution and size, so it is easy for one to manipulate the app with set parameters for resolution on ...

Twitter has started rolling out two new features for the Android and iPhone apps. The photo tagging feature would let you tag up to 10 people in photos. Another feature is option to upload up to four images in a Tweet at a time. "Tagging doesn't affect character count in the Tweet — you can tag up to 10 people in a photo and still have all 140 characters at your disposal", says Twitter. You will also get a notification if you are tagged. Twitter now has new privacy settings for tagging. These include, Allow anyone to tag, allow only people who follow to tag you in photos or prevent everyone from tagging you in images. Facebook introduced tagging way back, but it brought detailed privacy settings for tagging later. Multiple photo upload would be available for iPhone users starting today and would be available for Android and twitter.com soon. You can view Tweets with multiple photos on all these three platforms. Even though v6.3 update for iPhone is available, the new features would roll out gradually. Dell to pay Microsoft tax for its Android and Chrome OS devices

Dell is not just one of the biggest PC makers out there, but also a close ally to Microsoft, with the latter recently helping out when the company went private. But being an independent company, Dell did make its foray into other platforms, with Android, and eventually even Chrome OS, both Google products. So, naturally, much like any other OEM, Dell is now in a patent licensing agreement with Microsoft where it will pay royalties for its products based on Android and Chrome OS. But surprisingly, even Microsoft is licensing some patents from Dell for its Xbox gaming consoles, making this deal more balanced than usual. Microsoft has been collecting Android royalties for some time now, which is rumoured to be higher than what it makes off Windows Phone licensing. Be it big OEMs like Samsung or small OEMs like Fujitsu, all have agreed to pay royalties for their products based on Android and Chrome OS, which infringe upon some patents from Microsoft.
