India's supreme court asked Nokia to provide guarantee of 35 billion rupees ($572.5 million) in an escrow account before it is allowed to transfer its Chennai plant and other assets in the country to Microsoft reports Reuters. Back in September last year Microsoft agreed to buy 5.4 Billion Euros cash, 3.79 Billion for devices and services 1.65 Billion for the associated patents. Last year officials raided Nokia’s manufacturing plant in Chennai, and found the company hadn't paid enough taxes. In December 2013, Delhi High Court asked the company to deposit money into an escrow account and agree to guarantee any tax dues to enable transfer of the factory in Chennai. Nokia appealed over it saying the Delhi High Court had imposed new conditions, and these are not aligned with international treaties and practices. Last month Nokia said the tax case will not affect its transaction between the company and Microsoft, that is expected to close by the end of March. The plant at Sriperumbudur manufactures most of the entry-level devices, including its Asha range. If this remains frozen by tax authorities, it cannot be immediately transferred to Microsoft. Nokia can run it on contract to Microsoft, but not for long, lawyers have previously ...

Google introduced Play Games as a competitor to Apple's Game Center, but it has hardly caught up in the race. The Google Play Games still lacks in features like how you cannot properly use gift codes and also the free to paid app transition is troublesome. Google has just announced an update to the Play Games service in the form of new developer options and also ability to gift in the game. As a end user, what this means for you is that, like all those perky Facebook apps which send you request, you will now be able to receive *gifts* on your phone, but for Android games(of course, Google will let you block it if you are not interested). For example, while you are playing Candy Crush and you have the option to share your accomplishment by sending out gifts to people, you can do this via Google Play Games if the developer chooses to implement it. One other important change is cross platform multiplayer support. With cross platform games on the rise, it is only fair that Google and Apple support cross platform Multiplayer games(like QuizUp). Developers will have to incorporate this through the Play Games Unity Plug-in and Play Games ...

Apple is rumored to be entering the personal health and fitness tracking segment with the upcoming iPhone and/or supposed iWatch. Earlier this month, 9To5Mac leaked a screenshot from iOS 8 revealing the upcoming Healthbook application for iPhone. Today, 9To5Mac have posted an extensive coverage of the upcoming Healthbook. The design of Apple's Healthbook takes cues from their Passbook application and uses card like interface. As per the screenshot, Apple is going full fledged into the personal health and fitness market by tracking more than vital signs. The Healthbook application keeps a complete record of various aspects of your health like - Bloodwork, Heart Rate, Blood Pressure, Hydration levels, Blood Sugar, Sleep, Respiratory rate, Oxygen Saturation and weight. Apple could use the iPhone to track all the details, but it is highly unlikely. So, with the leaked Healthbook application, there is a very high chance that Apple will be launching their own fitness tracker - most likely a smartwatch that has been rumored to be in the works for nearly four years - Apple iWatch.

Hardware The new Paperwhite has the same 6-inch (1024 x 768 pixels) display at pixel resolution of 212 PPI pixel density, similar to the first Paperwhite. The main change is the brightness and the sharp screen, definitely looks better than the first one. It has a built-in light similar to the first Kindle Paperwhite. Since this is front-lit screen, you can use it even in bright sunlight without any glare. The blacks are much deeper, so you don't have to strain your eyes to read small text in content like comics. After confirming the presence of a mobile-enabled version in the works when launching the Surface 2, the Redmond giant has finally taken the wraps off Microsoft Surface 2 with LTE 4G on the AT&T network, retailing at a price of 679$ for the 64 GB version. The Surface was Microsoft's first play as a PC hardware company. The first product, called Surface RT, was largely a flop due to poor usability and performance, and even took a write down in the company's earnings. Surface 2, the successor, was launched almost an year later, with good reviews and better reception from consumers, but still not as popular as Microsoft would like. Touted as a portable productive machine, the Surface 2 in its initial variants lacked a LTE chip for mobile data, which was apparently a highly requested feature, and hence we are seeing it now, in the form of the slightly modified LTE variant of the Surface 2. With a SIM card slot added to the sides, the Surface 2 will be able to use the 4G LTE data connectivity offered by the mobile operator, like AT&T for instance, and lets you use internet on-the-go. Apple took the road not taken by introducing two new iPhones in late 2013 when it announced the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. Both the phones were quite different as iPhone 5s came with brand new specifications, a fingerprint scanner and a dual tone flash while the iPhone 5c was just the iPhone 5 in a brand new plastic casing. Word in the tech industry was that the "c" in iPhone 5c stood for cheap, but it actually stood for colors. When it was launched, the iPhone 5c came in the usual 16/32/64GB variants in different color options. Today, Apple has just announced an 8GB version of the iPhone 5c in Europe and other countries. The 8GB variant is not yet available in the US. The disappointing sales of iPhone 5c is a clear indication that people want the better iPhone - iPhone 5s despite a heavier price tag. The pricing of the iPhone 5c 8GB is 40 GBP less than the 16GB variant which retails for 469GBP making it available for 429GBP(approx Rs. 43,500). There is no word from Apple about the detailed availability of the 8GB variant. It is not yet available in India. Update: Apple has confirmed that the Apple iPhone ...

LG might be working on the Google Smartwatch for all we know, but it seems like they are trying their hand at some other wearable products as well. evleaks has posted the image above, which looks to have a colourful wearable capacitive stylus that can bend. While we have no exact details for this product, it does look like an accessory at best, for the phone as well as for us. At a glance, it will look like a wrist band, but the next moment you can whip it out and start taking notes on your large screen phone. The tip of the stylus reminds us that this is definitely of the capacitive type, which means that it can work for a product like, lets say, the iPad too. Coloured in bright orange, red and green, this wearable accessory aims to solve the one long standing pain factor for styluses that don't come with the phone - a carrying slot. With a wrist strap like setup, the pen, which can turn into a rigid stick when made straight, can curl up on your wrist, just like the toy ones we used as a kid. While the implementation or the use of ...
