"Ok Google, Call Mom!" is now possible thanks to a new update for Google Now Voice Search. Being one of the more popular features that worked well in Apple's Siri ever since its first release, Google Now finally steps it up in this department. The feature incorporates specific contact look up through voice, in case you have saved it by the same name, or even help you set up specific titles for you close ones. If you call it out, Google Now will pick that nick name first, and only then will look up names generally. This makes the contextual assistant more personal, and makes the process of calling so much easier. This update comes at a time when Android is gearing up to be inside cars, in which Google Now's voice control would play a major role. With Siri already set to be inside cars, with its own mapping, Google's efforts seem directly aimed at it. Husband Wife Father/Dad Mother/Mom Brother Sister Cousin Niece Nephew Aunt Uncle Grandmother/Grandma Grandfather/Grandpa Girlfriend Boyfriend This list above is the relationship tags that one can add to Google Now, for easier voice access. With this make Google Now more useful? Yes. But most people don't talk to their phones and the latest KitKat dialer makes it even easier to ...

It's Valentine's day tomorrow, so a lot of companies are planning to cash in on the massive gift exchanges that will happen. Dell, which launched its new Venue range of tablets sometime last month, wants you to buy your lover one of them, and as an advantage, you will get a stylus for free. This offer will be valid for today and tomorrow only, with a free capacitive stylus and movie tickets for the day, but that's about it. Dell had launched the Android based Venue 7 and Venue 8 tablets, along with the Windows based Venue 8 Pro tablet in India, but it seems like only the Android ones are getting this offer. The Dell Venue 7 and Dell Venue 8 come with almost the same specifications, powered by the Intel Z2560 processor, and differing only in screen sizes and internal memory and so forth. They are not bundled with styluses but they do come with the nice Folio case, from Dell. Curiously, we found even the Venue 8 Pro stylus to be missing from the U.S website too, citing temporary unavailability on its product. Unlike the Dell Venue 8 Pro, the Venue 7 and Venue 8 don't come with a ...

Micromax launched the Canvas Turbo, the company's first smartphone with a full HD screen last year. The Canvas Turbo Mini is a smaller version of the Canvas Turbo, which has a slightly smaller HD display, a different processor, but it maintains the premium looks of the Canvas Turbo with its aluminium frame and a metal back. Is the Canvas Turbo Mini worth the price? Let us find out in the review. Unboxing We unboxed the Canvas Turbo Mini recently. Check out the unboxing video below. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAFpI2IJQgU Box Contents The box contents include: Micromax canvas Turbo mini in silver White micro USB cable White normal earphones, styled like iPod headsets SIM ejector tool Information booklets and warranty card USB charger plug Hardware and Design The phone has a 4.69-inch HD IPS screen, which is sharp and bright. There is a 5-megapixel fixed-focus camera on the top, which can record videos only at VGA resolution, unlike the Canvas Turbo which had HD video recording. It also has a usual pair of proximity and ambient light sensors. There is also ...

If you followed the CES 2014 closely, then you would have been aware that Qualcomm announced a sibling of the Snapdragon 800 SoC series. Unlike the Snapdragon 800 SoC that you know which powers the flagship smartphones of the year, the Snapdragon 802 was intended for 4K displays that are supposed to be the next big thing. There were loads and loads of 4K TVs at display in CES 2014, but they are yet to become everyday consumer products. Also, one of the things hindering the pervasiveness of the 4K displays is the lack of 4K content. So, as the demand for 4K TVs isn't there, Qualcomm has decided to drop the Snapdragon 802 from the commericialization process. If you din't know, the specifications of Snapdragon 802 are Quad-core Krait 1.8 GHz CPU Adreno 330 GPU Two-stream, dual-band 802.11ac AllJoyn integration Snapdragon Studio Access content protection It shares a lot of similarities with its mobile sibling - Snapdragon 800. It could easily enable your smart TV to browse the internet, watch movies and do many things at once. It can also play 4 Full HD videos simultaneously.

“Flappy Bird” clones being flapped out of app stores

If you thought it was the end of "Flappy Bird", then you were right and wrong. After having had enough with his immensely addictive and frustrating game, developer Dong Nyugen pulled the game from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. But because of the immense popularity that the game gained, developers and clone makes just can't seem to get enough of the "Flappy Bird" sensation. Hence we saw numerous games with the slightest modification of the name "Flappy" and as a consumer, you had a nightmare when you wanted to find a good one or a closely named application. To clean the plague of Flappy Bird clones, both Apple and Google have acted on their own application stores by either removing the applications/games from the market or temporarily disabling them. This information came to light when a developer Ken Carpenter submitted an application named "Flappy Dragon" to the Apple app store. The application had been rejected on the grounds that it was named based on a popular application and this was Apple's response - " we found your app name attempts to leverage a popular app. " On similar grounds, Google has also prompted developers to rename their application, if, in anyway ...

Huawei calls Apple the “Fruit” and Samsung “Some song” in its bizarre MWC14 teaser

Huawei is gearing up to introduce a range of new products at the Mobile World Congress event this year, but before doing so, the Chinese company has readied a bizarre teaser to explain the kind of products it is launching. First off, why the video is bizarre is because it uses an "Apple" iPhone with a Siri-like voice assistant, to mock "Apple" and Samsung, calling them the "Fruit" and "Some song" respectively. Nevertheless, it gives us a taste of what we can expect from the company, when it reveals its products at this year's biggest mobile event, the Mobile World Congress. Here's the video - httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKa1Lx3IJio The first product Huawei teases in the above video is of a tablet. If Huawei's Siri is to be believed, has a beautiful slim design and a huge battery at the same time. And then Huawei touts a new smartphone with an "amazing front camera", obviously catering to the recent "selfie" craze. Huawei's multimedia tablet is the next one, aiming to offer the best multimedia experience with front facing speakers, and finally - Yes, Huawei doesn't even leave the iconic "One more thing" behind in its extended (although asinine)imitation here. This device, pictured in a really curved plastic body ...

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Review: The Mini we Deserve

0
0
In a world where gargantuan phones, as big as tablets, are released regularly, started a trend of “mini” flagships from companies like Samsung and HTC. They were supposed to be just scaled down versions of their popular flagship devices to cater to the market that just doesn’t want huge screens; instead they were scaled down even from the inside. They sported the same design, but a ton of compromises were made otherwise. A lot of companies followed suit with this, with their own “mini” offerings, and so did Sony, but with a twist. The Xperia Z1 f was first launched in Japan, showing us the first glimpses of what seemed like the perfect “mini” of a flagship. Sensing the potential, Sony undoubtedly went global and announced the Xperia Z1 compact. It was, much like the Z1 f, just a smaller version of the Z1. The internals and the most important USPs of the Z1 were left untouched, hence becoming the “mini” we all yearned for, and deserved. With the burden of being almost the perfect Android replacement for the iPhone, can Sony's "mini" flagship match the deservedly high expectations? Lets find out in our detailed review of the Sony Xperia Z1 ...
