Samsung Galaxy S5, the next iteration of Samsung's flagship series, may have a few weeks before it is officially launched, but the tech industry is well aware of the features and the specifications that this beasty device will pack. There have been a lot of calculated speculations about the display that will be used by Samsung on its next flagship. Today, we have confirmation that Samsung is indeed working a QHD display for smartphones. Going by the trend, the next iteration of Galaxy S series will feature a super high resolution QHD display sporting a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels. Based on previous rumors, the display size of the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be 5.25inches and because of the insane QHD resolution, the display will have pixel density of 559ppi which is extremely high. Windows Phone 8.1 codenamed "Blue" has been rumoured for a long time now, ever since Microsoft confirmed the existence of Windows 8.1(also codenamed "Blue"). While Windows 8.1 has seen its release right on time, with a developer preview in June last year and commercial release by October, we are yet to see even a glimpse of Windows Phone 8.1, which we were hoping to be delivered as fast as the first Windows 8 update. Now, fresh rumours from reliable Mary Jo Foley, ZDNet, reveal that Windows Phone is all set for a April reveal, with developers getting the preview first and general availability later. This comes after rumours of a Cortana reveal, which is a virtual assistant and very much a part of Windows Phone that coincides with Microsoft's developer event at the same time - Build 2014. To expand upon the information available, apparently the RTM(Release to Manufacturing - a process in which Microsoft releases the bits to OEMs) build of Windows Phone 8.1 will be released just ahead of the Build 2014 event, where Microsoft hopes to unveil a lot of new features of the latest update. The developers will reportedly get to preview the release through the Developer ...

Google Glass, the futuristic HUD-like wearable device from the Mountain View company has been doing its rounds in the form of the Explorer Edition. We had unboxed it a while ago, and we gotta say that it really is something special that offers a glimpse of the future and the advanced present, perhaps. But ever since I saw it up close, I really really wanted to try it out and put it to good use, but haven't been able to, mainly because it lacked any kind of prescription lens support. Yes, I wear spectacles to compensate for my poor vision, and that is what one exactly gets when using Glass without prescription lenses, it's a blurry mess. It was the single loudest complaint from many explorers alike, and finally, we have a solution. Google has just unveiled a new range of light weight Titanium frames that can support prescription lenses, and all of them are pictured above. If that is not enough, here is a video showing off the same - httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eneEmDtSvzI If we had a nickel for every time someone has asked about prescription lenses for Glass… well, we’d have a lot of nickels. So we want you to be the ...

Last year Samsung said that we would see a Tizen-based device in 2013, but it didn't happen. Image of the Samsung GT-I8800 codenamed Redwood back in May, later in October we saw a video of the Samsung Z9005 RedWood running Tizen 2.2. Korean website MovePlayer has posted a render of its first Tizen-based smartphone, which is expected to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month. The phone would be called Samsung ZEQ 9000, which would be called Zeke. It is rumored to feature a 4.8-inch (1280×720 pixels) HD display, powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor and come both in single and dual-SIM variants. According to the leaked render, it is expected to come with a plastic build and a hardware home button. The homescreen looks like Tizen 2.1 that leaked recently, but it is likely to run on Tizen 2.2 or later. Samsung has scheduled a Tizen Developer event on February 23th, before the MWC. Even the date in the screenshot shows 24th February. Hope we can finally see the device next month. Via

Google Chrome apps for iOS and Android are coming, as the company has just quietly unveiled, in its Chromium blog, that it is finally ready to extend the reach of Chrome apps to mobile platforms. It was previously rumoured to happen, but Google remained quiet even after the news spread fast. But now that it's official, it is seen as a landmark announcement, as this might be a strategic move for all things Google, going forward. With Chromebooks gaining ground in the notebook space, thanks to several OEMs backing it up with some really interesting products, Google is now taking the bustling platform to mobile. This is a move that the whole industry has been expecting, ever since Google replaced Andy Rubin with Sundar Pichai, the Chrome boss at the Mountain View company. Having developed a tool chain for packaging Chrome apps into native shells for both iOS and Android, this Google-blessed offering will be a dream come true for many developers. Today we're expanding their reach to mobile platforms with an early developer preview of a toolchain based on Apache Cordova, an open-source mobile development framework for building native mobile apps using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. A year after taking over as chairman of the Tata group, Cyrus Mistry, has decided to exit the telecom business completely, according to a recent report from Economic Times. Tata Group, which includes Tata Communications and Tata Tele has initiated talks with Vodafone to sell the company, but the discussions are at an early stage. NTT Docomo owns 26% stake in Tata Tele and has a put option which expires on March 31, 2014. It may give a one-year extension for a deal with Vodafone, according to the report. The Indian government also holds 26% stake in Tata Communications. As part of negotiations with Vodafone, Tata Group will buy out government's stake in the company and then sell it to Vodafone. Since both Tata Tele and Tata Communications have large shareholders, it will be a deal in several stages, the report adds. According to recent numbers published by the Department of Telecom, Tata Tele has net worth of minus 5,346.65 crore, which makes them a possible target for acquisitions. If Vodafone buys Tata Tele, it will be India's leading player in terms of subscribers, overtaking Airtel. According to the ET report both Tata and Vodafone denied to confirm anything.

Samsung Galaxy Gear gets another price cut to Rs. 14,999 in India

Galaxy Gear is the first Smartwatch from Samsung, the world leader in consumer electronics. One would have expected it to sell like how the Note sold, even after reviews lambasted it for being too big and otherworldly, but that isn't the same case for the Galaxy Gear. It has received price cuts after price cuts and we are now at a stage in which it sells at a price of Rs. 14,999 in retail, a huge 8,000 discount from the original launch price of Rs. 22,990. The price has fallen by almost 40%, which indicates the kind of demand that the product is getting in the market. Sure, the market is not really a "Smartwatch" market per se, but bundling it with the Note 3 was a clever strategy from Samsung, which unfortunately did not work in its favour. To be fair to Samsung, there are several forces at play here that have contributed to the non-sales of the product. First, the Gear is a v1 product, so it's definitely not perfect. It can only get better from here, but a product with limited device support and half baked software are clear indications of a work in progress and people obviously ...

Earlier this week LG confirmed that it would launch the LG G Pro 2, successor of the LG G Pro next month. Live images of the device has surfaced in Korea, which shows off G2-like  rear-mounted power button and volume keys, textured back panel, unlike G Pro's shiny plastic panel with square pattern elements. It also has a sleek curved design, according to the leaked image. Even though LG confirmed the G Pro 2, it is yet to reveal the specifications of the device. According to earlier rumors, the G Pro 2 is expected to come with a 6-inch full HD display, Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4 KitKat and LTE-A support. Even though the large-screen phone is expected to be Note 3's rival, it might not come with a stylus, since these leaked don't show a stylus dock on the back of the phone. It would obviously have Knock (Previously Knock ON), QSlide and more software features. The LG G Pro 2 would go on sale in Korea next month, and is expected to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) next month. Via
