Samsung and Google has signed a 10 year global patent cross-license agreement that would cover technologies and business areas. This will strengthen their patent position against patent infringement against other, especially Apple. Back in 2012, Samsung paid $1.05 billion to Apple in damages for infringing several patents owned by Apple. Google acquired Motorola Mobility in 2012, in which it acquired over 17000 patents owned by the company. The new deal with Samsung would let them access to these patent portfolios. This collaboration would improve the research and development of current and future products and technologies of both these companies. Google already has patent agreements with Microsoft, Nokia and Intellectual Ventures. Regarding the deal, Allen Lo, Deputy General Counsel for Patents at Google, said, We’re pleased to enter into a cross-license with our partner Samsung. By working together on agreements like this, companies can reduce the potential for litigation and focus instead on innovation. Dr. Seungho Ahn, the Head of Samsung’s Intellectual Property Center, said This agreement with Google is highly significant for the technology industry. Samsung and Google are showing the rest of the industry that there is more to gain from cooperating than engaging in unnecessary patent disputes.

Earlier today Samsung announced that they have signed a deal with Google for sharing their license for 10 years. Now Samsung and Ericsson have entered into a license agreement to settle all ongoing patent related legal disputes. This agreement covers patents relating to GSM, UMTS, and LTE standards for both networks and handsets. This illustrates Ericsson's commitment to  fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) principles, says the company. Back in November 2012, Ericsson filed a patent lawsuit against Samsung at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, against continuing to use its technology without paying licensing fees. It demanded billions more than the previous license agreements, said Samsung. The new agreement  includes an initial payment and ongoing royalty payments from Samsung to Ericsson for the term of the new multi-year license agreement. This will impact Ericsson sales and net income in Q4 2013 sales by 4.2 billion Swedish Krona ($650 million) and its net income by 3.3 billion Swedish Krona ($500 million).  The details of the agreement are confidential and will not be disclosed, said the company. But this indicates that Ericsson would earn billions of dollars over the years. Regarding the new agreement, Kasim Alfalahi, Chief Intellectual Property Officer at Ericsson said, We are pleased that we could reach a ...

Check out the unboxing below. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5c0iLnit1k Box Contents The box contents include: Xolo Q3000 in black Flip Cover (Unconventional) Scratch guard USB Travel Charger plug micro USB cable USB OTG cable Xolo branded headset with mic (not in-ear) Information booklet and warranty/safety guide Hardware and Design The 5.7-inch full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 386 ppi pixel density is sharp and offers vibrant colors. It also has a curved glass on the front, which enhanced the display and design of the smartphone. The blacks are great, viewing angles are good. Brightness could be better. The brightness seem low even when you set it to full, compared to the previous Xolo phones like the Q2000. Since the display is too glossy, ...

After a trademark infringement lawsuit, won by the Sky broadcasting corporation in the UK, Microsoft was tasked with changing its consumer facing cloud service "SkyDrive" to something else. Today the company has revealed that SkyDrive will be called "OneDrive", and that it will start rolling out the changes gradually. Technically, the product remains the same but the name, which is usually a constant, receives a change. This is not the first time Microsoft has been forced to rename its products, as we had witnessed earlier how the company was forced not to use "metro" for its whole design language it developed. That said, the OneDrive blog has posted a video that showcases the new vision that Microsoft wants to portray for its new product - httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4NsPPUDjyU For current users of either SkyDrive or SkyDrive Pro, you’re all set. The service will continue to operate as you expect and all of your content will be available on OneDrive and OneDrive for Business respectively as the new name is rolled out across the portfolio. As mentioned above, the roll out will slowly happen over the course of months with just the name being replaced. In my opinion, the OneDrive name seems to be a decent ...
