    Rightware launched the Basemark X, a cross-platform benchmarking tool for Android, iPhone and iPad last week. While the iOS app is still waiting for the approval in the Apple iTunes Store, the Android application is out now. The Basemark X is built on gaming engine Unity 4, which is used in hundreds of mobile games. We managed to run the Basemark 1.0 on several high-end quad-core Android smartphones.     Smartphone running on the Firefox OS would start shipping in 9 countries including Brazil, Colombia, Hungary, Mexico, Montenegro, Poland, Serbia, Spain, and Venezuela, according to a recent report from Business Insider. At AllThingsD's D: Dive Into Mobile conference, Mozilla CEO Gary Kovacs said that the Firefox OS would launch in five countries, but Mozilla PR confirmed to Business Insider that it would be available in 9 countries starting from June 2013. Mozilla partnered with ZTE and Alcatel to announce the entry-level phones, the ZTE Open and the Alcatel One Touch Fire at the MWC 2013 earlier this year.  Sony shared their plan to release a phone running on Firefox OS next year. The company even released a Firefox OS ROM for their budget handset, the Xperia E. The Firefox OS is HTML5-based and completely open source so ZTE Open users will be able to run Web apps. It has dynamic content and unique features including personalized search services. Even though the U.S. is not in the list of first set of countries, it would launch in the United States in 2014, since it is first aimed at emerging markets.     Nokia has announced their partnership with BigFlix, India's first movie-on-demand service from Reliance Group to offer 3 months free subscription for their recently launched devices Lumia 520, Lumia 620 and the Lumia 720. BigFlix has a huge catalogue of more than 1500 films in more than 6 Indian languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali and more.  The BigFlix app was launched for Windows Phone devices back in August last year, later it was updated to support Windows Phone 8 devices. Nokia launched the Lumia 620 back in January, which went on sale in India last month. The Lumia 520 went on sale from retail stores across India earlier this month. The Lumia 720 was launched last month, and is now available from retail stores. These Lumia phones comes with BigFlix app pre-loaded. Consumers who activate the subscription on their smart-phones will be able to also enjoy seamless access to all the films on BIGFLIX on their laptops, tablets and desktops.

    Facebook for iPhone and iPad received the major update to version 6.0. This update brings Chat Heads feature for Messaging that was available for Facebook Messenger for Android last week. You can't use chat heads outside the Facebook application like Android, but you can use it when you’re doing other stuff on Facebook, like checking your News Feed.     Facebook released the Facebook Home app for Android on the Google Play last Friday, but it was only available in the U.S. Google Play Store.The Facebook Home launcher is now available for International users on select Android devices. It was announced earlier this month, and the HTC First is the first device to come pre-loaded with Facebook Home launcher. Facebook Home has Cover feed that offers photos and updates from your newsfeed, Notifications, Chat Heads, App Launcher to launch Facebook apps and more.     Amazon has announced that they would expand their App Store for Android to more than 200 countries including India, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, South Africa, South Korea, Papua New Guinea, Vatican City and more. Amazon is asking the international developers to submit their apps through the Amazon Mobile App Distribution Portal, and these apps would be available when the Amazon App Store for Android launches internationally. The Amazon app store for Android was first launched in the U.S back in 2011. The Android app was updated to support ICS devices back in January 2012. It rolled out in UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Japan recently. Some of the app publishers including P2 Games, Mobile Deluxe and Playmous in UK says that sales and monetization rates are better in Amazon compared to non-Amazon stores. Amazon app store has in-app purchases, and Imangi Studios, creator of the popular Temple Run games says that they have seen higher customer engagement with Temple Run since the integration of in-app purchases. You can download the Amazon Mobile app for Android, but it works only in select countries. Amazon launched the Amazon Mobile for Android Tablets earlier this week for U.S customers.     Microsoft has updated the Outlook.com application for Android with a completely new user interface and lot of new features. This is a major update since the launch of the app back in November 2012. The new update bring a simple user interface similar to the Windows 8 and the outlook.com web application. Additionally this update also adds new features including conversation threading, filters for unread and flagged mail, as well as the ability to mark messages as junk.     LinkedIn has updated the Android and iPhone apps. This brings new features such as revamped user interface, richer stream that offers tailored updates, news, original posts from influencers, deeper personalization options with a new navigation page.     First alleged images of the Nokia's upcoming Windows Phone device codenamed Catwalk has surfaced online. This would be a follow up to the Lumia 920, but it would reportedly come with a aluminium body, making it thinner and lighter than the Lumia 920. Specifications of the device surfaced earlier this month. Renders of the Lumia 928 codename Laser with Xenon Flash for Verizon USA surfaced earlier this month. The phone has a SIM card slot on the top, but the micro USB slot is on the top next to the 3.5mm audio jack. The camera protrudes out a bit, which indicates that the phone would have OIS feature similar to the Lumia 920. There are wireless charging points on the back, just above the speakers, similar to the Lumia 720. According to the earlier rumors, the Nokia Catwalk would come with a 4-5-inch (1280x768 pixels) display with octa (On-Cell Touch Active-Matrix Light-Emitting Diode) AMOLED panel, powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 8.7 megapixel rear-facing camera with OIS, 1GB RAM, 16GB of Internal memory and a 2000mAh not removable bettery.  It would be 8.4mm thick and weigh just 132 grams.     Google has always been improving the search feature on mobile phones. Google search is now faster and easier than before. The new quick link feature for searches lets you jump to a particular information you need quickly, instead of browsing through several pages. Google has also introduced new Quick view feature. Google changed the home page design for mobile similar to Google+ last year.  Google introduced movie timings if you search for a movie on Google Search for desktop, now you get consolidated results from sites on main topic. If you search for rotten tomatoes and meta critic, you get in theaters, top movies and more lists in search results, so that you can jump into the particular topic without entering the website. The new Quick view feature shows quick previews of the Wikipedia page listing, which you search for topics. It is still in experimental stage, and is available only when you search in English on Google.com. It would be enabled for additional websites soon.

    Nokia is working on a large sized phablet that would launch later this year, according to a recent report from The Financial Times. The report also says that Nokia plans to launch a Lumia PureView device equipped with a 41MP sensor similar to the Nokia 808 is expected to come in July. Rumors of the Nokia Lumia PureView device codenamed EOS surfaced earlier this year. Nokia announced the Lumia 808 at the MWC 2012. The 41MP Lumia was expected to launch at the MWC 2013, but Nokia announced entry-level devices and mid-range Lumia devices at the MWC earlier this year. Nokia is also expected to release the Lumia 920's successor codenamed Catwalk with a aluminium body and a PureView camera in June 2013. The report doesn't say anything about the Windows RT tablet from Nokia, that has been rumored since last year. A recent report says Microsoft will add support for third column of mid-size-tiled apps in the start screen to support 5 to 6-inch devices with 1080p support in the upcoming update.     As part of its quarterly earnings report, Nokia has revealed its device shipments for the 1st quarter of 2013. Reporting an operating loss of $150 million, the Finnish smartphone manufacturer has declared 30% lower shipments. This can be attributed to increasing competition and sales in upper segments of smartphones. “At the highest level, we are pleased that Nokia Group achieved underlying operating profitability for the third quarter in a row. While operating in a highly competitive environment, Nokia is executing our strategy withurgency and managing our costs very well." Despite significant marketing efforts, sales in North America accounted for just 400,000 units out of the total 61.9 million units sold worldwide. This comes as a contrast to the 700,000 units sold in the last quarter. Total sales for Lumia devices have been 5.6 million in the last quarter which exhibits a 27% QoQ increase while Nokia's entry level Asha series doesn't seem to have caught with volumes touching 5 million. This along with 0.5 million units of Symbian smartphones (expected to be the Nokia 808) brought the total for 'smart' devices to 11.1 million.     Micromax unveiled the A116 Canvas HD, the company’s latest flagship back in January. Images of the A115 Canvas 3D surfaced earlier this month, now images of the another smartphone in the Canvas series, the Micromax A111 has appeared online. According to MMXNewscaster, the phone would feature a 5.3-inch qHD (960 x 540 pixels) display with 5 point multi-touch that would also let you operate the phone with gloves.
